The Faculty of Pathology Background The Faculty of Pathology serves pathologists, patients and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine in Ireland. The Faculty of Pathology is the professional and training body for pathology in Ireland. We also seek to ensure the highest standards in the practice of pathology. The Faculty was established in 1981 and is one of six faculties within the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. In Ireland, pathology has six major areas of activity: chemical pathology, haematology, histopathology, immunology and clinical microbiology. Basic Specialist Training (BST) Histopathology Higher Specialist Training (HST) Chemical Pathology Clinical Microbiology Haematology Histopathology Immunology Neuropathology The Faculty achieves this aim through: Acting as the authoritative body for consultation on matters of educational, professional or public interest concerning Pathology. Representing the specialty of Pathology on international, national and regional councils or committees concerned with postgraduate medical education. Obtaining and maintaining recognition for itself as the Body responsible for advising recognised Statutory Bodies on all matters concerning Pathology under any scheme for specialist training, accreditation or registration. To maintain (i) a register of suitable persons training in Pathology (ii) a register of recognised training posts (iii) a register of Consultants. To promote Fellowship of the Faculty of Pathology as a natural progression on completion of specialist training. Role Overview The role of the RSA in Histopathology is to support the National Specialty Director (NSD) in their role in the development and delivery of postgraduate specialist training in Histopathology, under the governance of the Faculty of Pathology. Reporting relationships The RSA reports to the NSD who then reports through the Director of Education to the Dean and the Board of the Faculty of Pathology. Allocate trainees to various centres within their hub. In this regard, the number and location of clinical training posts in each hub should be made available to the NSD prior to the interviews and allocation process. Hospital Inspections: Participate and assist the NSD in hospital inspections in the specialty when required. Assessments: Participation in annual BST trainee assessments held in November. Assist the NSD in annual assessments of the specialty as requested (May / June). #### Requirements Requirements of the Appointment Mandatory Must be a fellow of the Faculty of Pathology Must be a registered and active trainer of the specialty training programme in Ireland Must be entered on the Medical Council’s Specialist Division of the Register in the relevant specialty Must be registered on an RCPI Professional Competence Scheme Nomination and Recruitment of a Regional Specialty Advisor The Faculty of Pathology is the appointing authority for RSAs in Histopathology Tenure of Office The tenure of office is three years. A maximum of two concurrent terms can be served as RSA. Notification of stepping down as RSA at the end of tenure should be presented in writing to the training body at least 3 months prior to stepping down. Training and Handover RSAs should partake in a 3 month handover / roll – in period to ensure the role is clearly defined. * RSAs must complete the Physicians as Trainers: Essential Skills Course and Interview Skills course. At Clontarf Hospital, our committed, expert and compassionate staff provide excellent care to patients on their rehabilitation journey. Our goal is to work in partnership with patients, providing care that is tailored to their unique needs, empowering them to achieve their optimum level of independence at home and in their communities. The patient pathways include: Older Persons Rehabilitation Step-up beds and hospital avoidance pathways with the ICPOP Team Specialist Rehabilitation Services, including neuro-rehabilitation and rehabilitation after trauma, for adults and older persons Orthopaedic Rehabilitation The Hospital has close links with the Mater Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, The National Orthopaedic Hospital, HSE Services and our Community Partners. Purpose of Post The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is a Senior Executive Management post at Clontarf Hospital with a pivotal role which includes leadership, planning, co-ordinating and managing services and resources to ensure the delivery of a safe and quality driven rehabilitation service for patients. The COO is a key member of the Senior Executive Team that will support the Hospital to deliver on its statutory, regulatory and accountability requirements. The COO will work extensively with members of the Senior Management Team in Clontarf Hospital and represent the Hospital on Board Committees and externally as required. The role will encompass a significant focus on transformation initiatives that will enable the Hospital to best meet the challenges presented by a growing and ageing population. These initiatives include: 1. Service Development and Expansion 2. Infrastructural Developments and Enhancements 3. Sustainable Projects 4. Digital/E-Health/Cyber Security Development and Implementation 5. Strategic Workforce Planning 6. Hospital Accreditation The COO is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Estates, ICT, Patient Administration Services and General Services functions in the Hospital. The COO will assist and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and deputise in their absence as and when required. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years senior management experience in a complex healthcare environment which includes operational and staff management. Experience of managing and working collaboratively cross functionally with multiple internal and external stakeholders in pursuing the objectives of the Hospital, as relevant to this role. A QQI Level 8 qualification in a healthcare, clinical or relevant area. Understanding and experience of Operations including Administration, Information Management Systems, Healthcare Record Management, Estates Management including Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Support Services within a healthcare environment. Understanding and experience of governance and compliance requirements relevant to the role. A track record of delivering significant change in a complex multi-stakeholder environment, as relevant to this role. A proven ability to develop, manage and deliver effective programmes of work, both through themselves and through others.
