Staff Software Engineer - Data Platform

ToastDublin, Ireland

From $39/yr

Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.

We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join our data platform (AAP) team in Dublin. The AAP team owns the foundational data infrastructure that powers Toast's analytics products and AI/ML capabilities: real-time streaming pipelines, a cloud-native data lakehouse, feature serving for ML-driven product experiences, and the infrastructure that enables product teams across Toast to build intelligent, data-driven experiences for our 170,000+ restaurant customers.

We are in the middle of a significant platform evolution: migrating to Apache Iceberg, standing up a new Feature Store, conducting Databricks evaluations, and scaling our streaming infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly growing business.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll be the technical lead for major parts of this evolution. You'll design and lead the delivery of platform capabilities that several teams depend on, doing deep hands-on work and making design calls that account for streaming, storage, serving, and the teams consuming them. You'll be the go-to expert in your area of the platform, working with product and engineering partners inside and outside our line of business. You'll make the engineers around you better through mentorship, design reviews, and the example you set. Success looks like other engineering teams moving faster because of the platform you help build.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

Lead the delivery of significant data platform capabilities, from early design through production rollout, across the AAP team and the teams that depend on it

Work hands-on with Kotlin/Java, Spark, Iceberg, and our streaming infrastructure, diagnosing performance, reasoning through trade-offs, and writing the code that sets the pattern for others

Anticipate how requirements will change and design systems that can absorb that change, exploring the problem fully before settling on a solution

Evolve the platform's API surfaces so that engineers across Toast can self-service - adoption and ease-of-use are part of the job

Lead efforts that measurably improve platform quality, reliability, and observability for the teams and customers who depend on it

Mentor other engineers and raise the bar on engineering practices across the organisation

Use AI tooling as a genuine force multiplier in your day-to-day work and help the team do the same

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

5+ years in software engineering with a strong focus on data platforms or distributed systems, including technical leadership of projects involving more than one team

Proficiency in Java, Kotlin or other object-oriented language

Strong hands-on expertise in Apache Spark and Apache Iceberg (or similar)

Experience with streaming infrastructure (Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar, or similar) and cloud-native data platforms on AWS

Experience building internal platforms and developer-facing abstractions - you think about your platform's users as carefully as product engineers think about end users

Databricks experience is a bonus but we care more that you understand what's running underneath it

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office collaboration two days per week in our Dublin office.

Our tech stack

Our data platform runs on AWS and spans Apache Iceberg for table format and lakehouse architecture, Apache Kafka and Pulsar for real-time streaming, Apache Spark for data processing, and DynamoDB and Postgres for operational data stores. We are migrating from legacy ETL patterns toward a modern, cloud-native data lakehouse and building out Feature Store capabilities to power ML-driven product experiences. Our backend services are primarily Kotlin and Java.

AI at Toast

At Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn. Senior Product Designer – Toast Retail

ToastDublin, Ireland

From $39/yr

Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.

Toast is making it faster and easier for retailers to get started on Toast: the path from a store's existing product data to a correctly configured, actively selling location. We are seeking a highly skilled, AI-native Senior Product Designer to lead that experience: someone with a strong portfolio, a track record of leading design for complex product areas, a focus on exceptional UI design, and the hands-on ability to build working prototypes with AI tools like Replit, Magic Patterns, or Claude. This role involves designing for the unique needs of a diverse retail customer base, including convenience stores, bottle shops, grocery stores, hybrid models, and beyond.

You will lead design for Toast Retail's Experience Platform team, working day to day with product and engineering partners in our Dublin office and the U.S., and reporting to Toast Retail's design leadership in the U.S. Together you will turn product strategy into the setup and onboarding experiences that make retailers feel Toast is built for them.

Why This Role Matters

A retailer's first 90 days on Toast decide whether they stay. Before a store can sell, thousands of items need clean names, categories, brands, pack sizes, taxes, deposits, age restrictions, and images, and most of that data arrives messy, from another system or a spreadsheet. The experiences you design will decide how quickly a new store goes live, how much of that work Toast can do for them, and whether the people setting up the store, often owners juggling a business that is already open, feel in control or buried in it.

You will be Toast Retail's design presence in our Dublin office: the on-site design partner for its product and engineering teams, and part of Toast's wider design community. As a senior designer working across regions and time zones, you will set design direction for your area with a high degree of autonomy: keeping local teams unblocked, making well-informed design and scope tradeoffs within the broader product vision, shaping the roadmap alongside your product and engineering partners, and bringing US-based design, product, and business stakeholders in when direction, customer impact, or strategic choices need broader alignment.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

Lead design for your product area: Take your area from early discovery through shipped UI, set its design direction and quality bar, and connect each workflow to the broader Toast Retail vision. Help shape what the team builds, not only how it looks.

Prototype with AI: Use AI prototyping tools such as Replit, Magic Patterns, or Claude to build working, interactive prototypes with realistic data, so ideas can be tested with customers and engineers before the team commits to them. Use AI across the rest of your practice too, from synthesizing research to exploring concepts, validating outputs carefully and modeling responsible, secure use of AI for the team.

Design AI-first workflows: Identify where AI can materially reduce customer effort, such as importing and cleaning up a store's existing item data, enriching items with brands, images, and attributes, and guiding new retailers through setup. Design just as carefully for when it is unsure: how customers review low-confidence results, correct mistakes, and come to trust the system.

Engage directly with customers: Research with retailers, and with the onboarding and support teams who help them go live, to understand where setup breaks down, and translate those insights into design direction and testable ideas.

Make complex data feel simple: Turn large catalogs, imports, bulk edits, and errors into experiences that are clear, forgiving, and fast, on desktop and in the hand.

Collaborate early and often: Partner closely with product managers and engineers in Dublin and the U.S., sharing work early, communicating design rationale clearly, and helping the team make good decisions quickly.

Raise the bar for the team: Deliver pixel-perfect UI, apply and extend the Toast design system with good judgment, mentor other designers, and contribute to the quality and practices of the wider Retail design team.

You will be a central collaborator within a cross-functional team of designers, product managers, and engineers, designing sophisticated, retail-native capabilities such as:

Onboarding for new retailers, from first data import to a store that is ready to sell

AI-assisted setup, including agents that import, clean up, and enrich a store's item data

Bulk item creation, editing, and correction at the scale of tens of thousands of products

Retail item details such as brand, pack and unit, tax, deposit and age rules, images, and category-specific attributes, like a wine's vintage and region

Tools that help Toast's onboarding teams set up and support retailers

Reusable setup and interaction patterns that make Toast feel built for retail across products

Team and Impact

You will join a passionate team dedicated to driving the consistency, integrity, strategy, and vision of Toast's next-generation product experience. The team is co-located in Dublin and the U.S. While the role sits in the Retail line of business, the patterns you establish will be reused across Toast Retail's products and help scale Toast's retail offering as Toast expands into new markets.

A key part of this work involves building on Toast's investments in AI-assisted onboarding. You will partner closely with the Dublin engineering team that is already building and shipping AI tools that help Toast's onboarding teams set up retail customers.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

Experience & Leadership (5+ years): Demonstrated ability to lead design for a complex product area end to end, craft compelling visual experiences, and connect this work to a broader product vision. You have shipped work that measurably changed customer or business outcomes, and you have influenced product direction, not only executed it.

AI-Native Practice: AI is part of how you work every day, not an occasional experiment. You use tools like Claude, Replit, or Magic Patterns to research, explore, and prototype, and you can build working prototypes to test ideas with customers and engineers. Crucially, you can tell valuable AI integration from mere hype, in your own process and in the product.

Core UX/UI Expertise: Solid understanding of UX principles and best practices for both web and native mobile applications, along with a strong grasp of platform-specific UX and UI patterns.

Autonomy & Initiative: Ability to navigate ambiguous, undefined problem spaces, frame the right problem, and initiate work by efficiently gathering the information needed to begin, and to keep moving when key partners are in another time zone.

Collaboration & Communication: Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset for sharing work early and often, the ability to present work and rationale persuasively to senior leaders, and the ability to build trusting relationships across functions and regions.

Design Tool Proficiency: Proficient in design software (preferably Figma), including maintaining clean files and delivering pixel-perfect final UI designs for handoff when needed (to a developer or an AI prototyping tool).

Feedback & Mentorship: Able to take feedback constructively and pivot quickly when necessary, and to give clear, generous feedback that helps other designers grow.

User Empathy: A strong ability to understand and empathize with users, designing digital experiences that delight and create a sense of accomplishment, especially within stressful or monotonous workflows.

Design Systems: Familiarity with corporate design systems, knowing how to apply them appropriately, and the judgment to push beyond them when innovation requires it.

Customer Engagement: Willingness to engage directly with customers to gather feedback and generate ideas for advancing product features.

What will help you stand out (Nice to Have)

Experience designing data-heavy operational or B2B software, such as onboarding, data import, product information management, or point-of-sale tools.

Experience designing AI or machine-learning features that include human review, confidence, o

Legal Mail Project Manager

Accenture UK & IrelandDublin, County Dublin, Ireland

Project Manager Overview As a Project Manager, you will run the projects end to end and hold the delivery machinery that keeps them moving. Working inside a programme and reporting to its leads, you will take the coordination load off them: project plans, roadmaps, timelines, task hygiene, and a straight, evidenced answer on programme health at any point. This role requires strong project management experience, enough technical fluency to hold your own with engineering partners, and the judgement to tailor a methodology to how a client actually works rather than applying one wholesale. Responsibilities - Project Leadership \& Delivery - Lead and manage projects from initiation through to delivery, ensuring alignment with programme priorities and business goals. - Own the roadmap for the project, coordinating with engineering and Business Technology partners on delivery rather than handing the roadmap to them. - Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, monitoring and closure. - Maintain project and task management systems so that status is accurate and current without needing to be reconstructed. - Define, track and report on project benefits, and manage resource forecasting so projects are appropriately staffed and supported. - Cross-Functional Collaboration - Collaborate with engineering, product, legal, compliance, operations and vendor teams to ensure successful delivery. - Facilitate clear communication and coordination across teams, supporting stakeholder engagement and alignment. - Hold the boundary between the technical roadmap owned by engineering partners and the project roadmap owned by the programme. - Mediate and resolve conflicts among stakeholders or project contributors to maintain momentum. - Change Management \& Continuous Improvement - Lead change initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, communication and training, to support adoption of new processes or systems. - Drive process optimisation and continuous improvement across the project portfolio. - Record decisions, dependencies and lessons learned in a form that travels — so that agreements reached in a meeting are durable and available to those who were not in the room. - Support the development of junior team members and project contributors. - Reporting, Compliance \& Risk Management - Communicate project status, risks and outcomes to leadership and senior stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making. - Provide health reporting on a regular cadence, including RAG status, delivery confidence and escalation of items at risk. - Proactively manage project risks, issues and dependencies, developing mitigation strategies as required. - Ensure project activity complies with relevant standards. Essential - Project management certification at PMP or PRINCE2 level, with Agile certification. - Strong working knowledge of different delivery methodologies (e.g. agile, waterfall), and the judgement to adapt rather than apply one rigidly. - Bias toward driving delivery rather than producing artefacts, while keeping decisions and dependencies properly recorded. - Technical background sufficient to engage credibly with engineering partners and to understand and optimise business processes. - Strategic thinking and the ability to align projects with programme vision. - Experience in resource management and project forecasting. - Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills. - Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment. - Proven ability to lead change initiatives and support user adoption. - Conflict resolution and mediation skills. - Proficiency with project and task management tools and reporting dashboards. - Experience coaching and mentoring team members. Desirable - Experience working within legal operations, compliance, or regulated environments - Understanding of legal, regulatory and compliance frameworks, or willingness to learn
