Staff Frontend Software Engineer

bitdriftNot specifiedremote

Remote, North America or European Union time zone overlap required Full Time When the tech giants arrived, they promised boundless connectivity, endless data, and a digital utopia. Reality check: We're drowning in a sea of useless information. Enter bitdrift. We're here to rewrite the script, giving engineers the power to control the chaos and turn down the noise. We are on the hunt for an experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to help us radically redefine how our customers explore and visualize their observability data. You'll work hand-in-hand with designers, mobile engineers, back-end developers, and leadership to create user experiences that are not only intuitive and responsive but truly stand out. You'll be a key voice in driving our frontend technical direction and architecture, ensuring development remains efficient and high-quality. As a force multiplier across the team, your impact will extend well beyond the UI—you will leverage your JavaScript expertise to shape our SDKs and play an active role in API design and implementation. This is your chance to make a significant impact and redefine what's possible for our users! bitdrift exists to fundamentally reshape the mobile observability status quo—a critical piece of the observability picture that has been historically neglected. It is both extremely important (what good is a 99.9% server success rate when the app is hard down from a bad JSON response?) and notoriously hard. Throwing server best practices at mobile ("ingest everything!") simply doesn’t work across hundreds of millions of devices due to skyrocketing costs, sporadic networking, and constant app suspensions. We take a fundamentally different approach. We couple a control plane with local storage provided by a sophisticated SDK. Telemetry is spooled locally to each device and only uploaded when finite state machines, running on the device, match specific conditions that are updated in real-time. As we like to say this provides 1000x the data when you need it, and none when you don’t. The systems that power this technology are both novel and extremely interesting and this is your opportunity to do something very different in the observability space. bitdrift is a bit of an unusual startup in that we’ve been at this for a while. The bitdrift team used to work at Lyft, and over several years developed a comprehensive internal solution to the problems outlined above. It supported 50+ million devices at Lyft and was the kernel of what is known as bitdrift Capture today. We spun out as an independent company in 2023 with Lyft as our first marquee customer, and raised $15M from leading investors like Amplify Partners. We are a small team of kind and talented people. Join us as we navigate the murky waters of observability with renewed hope. WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR Contribute to the technical architecture and long-term vision for our frontend across multiple products. Develop scalable, highly optimized, and maintainable front-end code using TypeScript and React to craft delightful UIs that make our observability tools shine. Build, improve, and maintain the front-end infrastructure that powers smooth development, testing, and deployment. Collaborate closely with design, product, and engineering to ensure everything looks great and works flawlessly. Implement observability tools like logging and monitoring to keep an eye on performance and user behavior. Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and tools that take our user experiences to the next level. Communicate directly with customers to announce new features and troubleshoot issues. WHO YOU ARE 8+ years of professional front-end development experience. Deep technical knowledge of JavaScript \& TypeScript. Proven track record of defining and delivering frontend architecture at scale. Passionate about best practices and making front-end development cleaner, faster, and smarter. Proficiency in monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). Strong understanding of web performance optimization, security practices, and cross-browser compatibility. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a keen eye for detail. Ability to self direct, break down tasks, and prioritize. Excited to work with a highly skilled team in a fast-paced environment. Bonus: experience with back-end development, mobile development (particularly React Native), or creating accessible, non-standard interfaces. WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST 30 DAYS Ramp up rapidly through an accelerated onboarding process, pairing with the engineering team to gain deep familiarity with our existing codebase and products. Ship to production quickly by tackling a number of targeted bug fixes and smaller feature requests. Learn our current frontend architecture and begin identifying areas for future technical investment and improvement. WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST 90 DAYS Take personal ownership of multiple front-end projects on our roadmap, demonstrating the ability to work fluidly across all our existing products. Propose and implement meaningful architectural and performance improvements. Engage directly with customers during integrations, troubleshooting sessions, and product feedback syncs. Boost developer productivity by improving documentation, and lowering the barrier to entry for contributing to frontend features. WHAT WE OFFER ##### Impactful Benefits Competitive salary and benefits that recognize your value. Flexible hours and remote work options to fit your lifestyle. Generous PTO policy so you can recharge when needed. Professional growth opportunities to accelerate your career. ##### Energizing Challenges Work with cutting-edge technology and stay ahead of the curve. Tackle meaningful projects that drive innovation and creativity. Opportunities to lead initiatives and shape the future of the company. ##### Exceptional Colleagues\ Join a vibrant, collaborative team that celebrates wins together. Inclusive, supportive environment where everyone's voice is valued. Regular in-person meetups and events to bond and share ideas. \ WHO TOTALLY DIDN'T WRITE THIS THEMSELVES HOW TO APPLY Please send your resume, portfolio, and a brief cover letter detailing your relevant experience to jobs@bitdrift.io.

Opportunities to lead initiatives and shape the future of the company. ##### Exceptional Colleagues\ Join a vibrant, collaborative team that celebrates wins together. Inclusive, supportive environment where everyone's voice is valued.

The Trade DeskNew York, United Statesonsite

$166,200 - $304,700/yr

The Trade Desk is a global technology company and the world’s leading independent platform for digital advertising, with nearly 4,000 employees across more than 30 offices. Our technology helps advertisers reach the right audiences across the open internet — from streaming TV and podcasts to mobile apps, news, and more. Advertising powers the content people love. By making it more transparent, effective, and responsible, we help support trusted journalism, quality entertainment, and creators worldwide. The world’s brands and agencies rely on us to reach their customers and grow their businesses responsibly. The scale of our platform brings unique technical challenges — from processing massive datasets in real time to building systems that operate reliably on a global scale. When you work here, your impact is worldwide. We welcome diverse perspectives, encourage curiosity, and build teams that learn from one another. If you’re driven to solve meaningful challenges, we’d love to meet you. What We Do Our Lead Senior Staff Software Engineers are end-to-end owners who will participate in all aspects of designing, building, and delivering the foundational experiences that make The Trade Desk platform exceptional for the traders who rely on it every day. The Desk Fundamentals team sits within the Core Workflows engineering organization and owns the platform UI framework that the rest of our buying-side engineering teams build on top of. Our mission is straightforward but demanding: deliver consistent experiences, logical navigation, and user-friendly page components at platform scale. We own the shared design patterns and frontend frameworks that empower other teams to ship features quickly and reliably. We build and evolve the Portfolio Views that give traders clarity into performance across partners and advertisers. We maintain the Programmatic Table — one of the highest-traffic surfaces on the platform — and we are the team that sets the bar for what quality looks like across The Trade Desk's core product. At The Trade Desk, we believe that each opportunity to engage with all internal and external stakeholders is unique. This means that based on your interests and background, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale, distributed systems — for example, coordinating thousands of servers in cloud and physical data centers around the world, petabyte-scale data challenges, advanced data visualizations, and interactive user interfaces, to name a few. Our system performs every day, 24/7, serving global traffic. It's important that we focus on quality at scale in an agile environment based on collaboration, ownership, and trust. Our software engineering teams fully own their charter to work on long-term roadmaps while enhancing existing features or tools and continuously improving efficiency. What You’ll Do It's the best of both worlds — you'll get a chance to exercise your technical leadership and build up your people management and leadership skills. Some of the work that you will be doing to help us deliver on our mission includes the following: Technical leadership * Actively review designs, code, and architecture across the team's surface area, from the platform framework to the data-rich tables and panels that traders use every day. * Deliver meaningful, technical, and hands-on contributions to the team's objectives, from architectural decisions on our shared UI framework to concrete pull requests. * Understand strategic business priorities and communicate with the team on how their work connects to the broader roadmap and company goals. * Drive the technical direction for how other engineering teams within Core Workflows — and across the broader organization — build on top of the platform framework the Desk Fundamentals team owns. Project level processes and execution * Collaborate with the PM team to develop the roadmap and MVP plans, translating complex UX and platform consistency challenges into clearly scoped, executable engineering work. * Develop execution plans including resources, milestones, and timelines for roadmap initiatives. * Define and track the business KPIs and user-facing metrics that connect the team's engineering work to meaningful outcomes, ensuring the team understands the impact of what they ship. * Continuously analyze and optimize team efficiency, removing blockers and ensuring the team ships with quality. * Establish and deliver on team commitments, and communicate important developments and changes to area leadership and other stakeholders. * Measure and maintain the quality of the team's contributions, including platform reliability, consistency, and developer experience for the teams building on top of what we own. People management * Manage a small team of talented engineers, serving as both their technical leader and their people manager. * Help team members develop career growth plans and accelerate toward their next level. * Give regular and effective feedback, and hold weekly 1:1 meetings with direct reports. * Conduct annual reviews and make compensation recommendations. * Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe team culture where diverse perspectives are genuinely valued. Who You Are Our culture is much deeper than just having fun together (though we do that well, too). We take pride in our engineers being trust-builders, generous givers, scrappy problem solvers, and gritty pursuers of excellence. You do not have to meet all the requirements below, but we believe that people who meet most of them will have a higher likelihood of succeeding in this role: * You have a solid understanding of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), DevOps, and agile methodologies. * You have a solid understanding of cloud computing and the trade-offs of large-scale, distributed web applications. * You have a solid understanding of design patterns and software architecture, including frontend systems design and component-based architectures. * You have experience contributing to the professional growth of software engineers, and a proven track record of growing multiple senior engineers and tech leads. * You have experience providing technical and project leadership of initiatives involving multiple teams, including platform or framework work where your team's decisions directly affect the velocity and quality of teams outside your own. * You have experience leading and completing projects with a high degree of technical ambiguity. * You have experience driving major, strategic, company-wide initiatives with significant risk. * You have experience hiring and conducting interviews. * You are proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, Java, C, C++, Python, SQL, or Scala. * You have 13+ years of software development engineering experience. * You have 1+ years of experience directly managing people. * You have a Bachelor's/Master's level degree in computer science or a relevant engineering-related field, or equivalent experience. Not everyone has the same level of access to opportunities. What is most important to us is what and how you can contribute, which is why our consideration is not limited by the level of education you have. * You have additional nice-to-have experience in the following areas: full-stack web development, frontend framework design, data visualization and table-heavy UI systems, distributed systems, microservices, Kubernetes, and AI/LLM integration into production applications. We are a global team with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be well-versed in building from common ground to value, seek out, and foster invisible and visible dimensions of diversity. A variety of technical opportunities is one of the best things about working at The Trade Desk as a software engineer, which is why we do not expect you to know every technology we use when you start. What we care about is that you can learn quickly and find solutions to complex problems using the optimum tools for the job. What you know is less important than how well you learn and innovate. Staff Software Engineer, Backend

From $70/yr

About Posh We are all social creatures, but the dominant “social” companies today have evolved into digital loneliness machines, driving isolation, anxiety, and mental health challenges around the world. Human connection is lost. Posh is a beacon guiding us back. Posh enables anyone to build an IRL community based on shared interests, while connecting consumers with the communities of people just like them. Founded by event organizers who were frustrated with the growing loneliness epidemic and the tools available to build their own event brand, we’ve built the ultimate platform for launching, monetizing, and finding IRL communities of people just like you. In just 6 years, Posh has grown to a team of 70, expanded to 8M+ users, secured $70m in venture funding, and facilitated over $350M in transactions. About The Role At Posh, you'll set the technical direction for our backend systems. As Staff Backend Engineer, you own architecture across multiple services, drive platform improvements, and ship production code yourself. Staff at Posh means breadth and depth. You'll make architectural calls that affect multiple teams, not only your own squad. You'll raise the bar through design reviews, code review, mentorship, and technical leadership across functions. And you stay close to the work — implementation matters as much as architecture at this level. This is an in-person role at our New York City office in SoHo. Key Responsibilities * Own backend architecture across multiple services and team boundaries, from design through implementation. * Write production code daily and set the standard on quality, reliability, and engineering practice. * Partner with engineering leads and product managers to scope large initiatives and define what "done" actually means. * Improve scalability, performance, and reliability as the platform grows. * Identify and clear technical debt across teams, not only within your immediate scope. * Build security and observability into systems from day one rather than bolting them on later. * Build with data in mind: instrumentation, pipelines, and tooling that surface meaningful insight for organizers and the business. * Mentor engineers across levels and shape technical culture through reviews, design discussions, and direct coaching. * Help us hire well — participate in technical interviews and calibration. Ideal Candidate * 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including time as a Staff, Principal, or technical lead. * Has designed and delivered systems that span multiple services or teams with clear ownership of the outcome. * Deep expertise in backend systems: APIs, data modeling, distributed systems, event-driven architecture. Strong working knowledge of the full stack. * Proficient in technologies relevant to our stack (e.g.,Java, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB AWS or similar cloud providers). * Has scaled platforms operationally, not just designed them on paper. You've watched performance regress under load, run incidents, and evolved architecture that was already in production. * Pragmatic about technology choices. You pick the right tool for the problem and can defend the tradeoff. * Communicates technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers, product, and business leaders. * Mentors and raises the engineering bar for the people around them. * Experience at a consumer, social, or marketplace company is a plus — those are the users we build for. When applying, please include links to your GitHub profile or a portfolio of past projects. Posh provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation and training. Posh is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities in our job application procedures. Please let us know if you need assistance or accommodation due to a disability

TrabaNew York, NY, USonsite

$240,000 - $300,000/yr

Traba is the AI operating layer for the industrial supply chain. We started in workforce—temp staffing, the biggest operational pain point for the manufacturing and logistics customers we serve—and used it to embed ourselves inside their daily operations and create a far better customer experience through technology. Now those same customers are pulling us beyond staffing into the broader operational workflows that run their facilities. That foundation gave us proprietary data from millions of shifts and deep enterprise relationships. But our edge is more than data: by connecting to the systems running across every facility and activating the workers already on our platform to execute against them, we are building applied AI that drives real productivity gains and transforms how the global supply chain operates at scale. You love diving into new areas and exploring new languages, databases, and technologies, and can discuss API design one minute and deployment infrastructure pipelines with tech leads the next. * Value clear communication. You recognize the importance of clear communication, documented planning, and transparent, frequent feedback. * Sweat the small stuff. You have strong opinions on design patterns, IDEs, tabs vs. spaces—you understand that how you do one thing is how you do everything, so you care about the details. * Deep experience building full-stack web applications. You have designed and built performant, scalable applications, and have expertise in developing APIs, data modeling, optimizing database queries, and scaling distributed systems. You Will: * Architect and lead the development of our core systems—from real-time job matching algorithms to autonomous worker vetting pipelines powered by ML and AI agents. * Own architecture decisions for our tech platform and advise key product \& infrastructure decisions, thinking ahead for what the company and engineering team will need a year or two from now * Orchestrate our CI/CD workflows, using Docker \& Github, and drive efficiency through automated testing * Build analytics \& monitoring to help understand our user experience \& application health * Drive backend application performance measurement and optimization * Contribute in a ton of other ways to a scrappy founding team building the future of flexible light industrial staffing! Staff Software Engineer

ClooverBerlin, Berlin, Germanyonsite

From $22/yr

Your role Most energy companies are still running on spreadsheets and phone calls. At Cloover we're building the infrastructure that replaces all of that, and we need engineers who don't just own features but shape the systems beneath them. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Berlin team: someone who helps set technical direction, raises the bar across the engineering org, and solves the problems that others escalate. You'll report to our CTO and operate across squads. From your first week, your decisions will be shaping systems that reach thousands of installer partners directly. Your mission * Set technical direction and lead complex, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end: architectural decisions across APIs, infrastructure, and data systems through to production and long-term ownership, bringing other engineers with you. * Identify systemic weaknesses before they become incidents. Design systems that self-monitor, degrade gracefully, and recover fast. Establish the reliability practices that make that the norm across the team. * Own and evolve our backend and frontend systems (Node.js, Next.js, React, TypeScript). Design APIs that are scalable, secure, and easy to build on. * Model, optimise, and operate our PostgreSQL data layer: schema design, indexing, query optimisation, and migrations that ship safely. * Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using Terraform, keeping environments consistent, auditable, and built for the scale we're heading toward. * Integrate and harden authentication and authorisation flows on Auth0 (OAuth, SSO, session and token management) across the platform, balancing security with a frictionless user experience. * Champion AI tooling across the engineering team: not just using it yourself, but defining how we build with it. Push the boundaries of what our AI operating system can do. * Mentor junior engineers. Develop technical leads, run architecture reviews, and shape how we hire and evaluate engineering talent. * Collaborate daily with Product, Ops, Finance, and Design, translating ambiguous cross-functional problems into well-scoped, reliably shipped solutions. Your profile We care more about how you think and what you've built than where you've been. Here's what will set you up for success in this role: * 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, operating as a Staff or Senior engineer — leading initiatives, not just executing them. * Deep experience building high-stakes systems where reliability and correctness matter more than raw scale. You know what good looks like when each transaction carries real value. * Strong JavaScript and TypeScript across frontend and backend. Comfortable across the full stack and opinionated about quality. * Cloud infrastructure depth, ideally on Google Cloud Platform, with hands-on Terraform or equivalent IaC practice at production scale. * Strong relational database expertise: schema design, indexing, query optimisation, and performance tuning at scale. * Proven experience building well-designed APIs that others can rely on and build on top of. * Works without waiting to be directed. Takes cross-functional ownership. Moves fast and brings others with them. * Based in Berlin and energized by being in the room. We're intentionally office-first — decisions get made in real time, prototypes get stress-tested over lunch, and the founding team is ten meters away. If that's how you thrive, you'll feel at home here. * Fully proficient in English (C2). Nice to have (but not required): * Deep knowledge of auth protocols: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SSO, session management. You've built this, not just consumed it. * German language skills. Don't meet every requirement? Apply anyway. We hire for potential and perspective — credentials are a starting point, not a ceiling. How We Hire We keep things transparent and respect your time. Most go from first call to offer in under three weeks. * Intro call (30 min) — We want to understand what you're looking for, not just screen your CV. * Hiring manager interview (45 min) — We go deep: your experience, your technical thinking, how you lead through ambiguity. * Case study (1 hour) — You get the brief in advance. We care about your approach — not whether you land on the right answer. * Offer \& signed contract. Need any adjustments at any stage? Just let us know. Why us? * Performance pay. Strong base, bonus tied to outcomes, and meaningful equity — recognised when it happens, not locked behind annual cycles. * AI-first \& unthrottled.
