Head of Backend Engineering Location: Berlin (Hybrid) Salary: Up to €120,000 + Benefits We’re working with a Berlin-based consumer entertainment platform that has become one of the leading products in its space across Europe. Following continued growth, they’re now hiring a Head of Backend Engineering to lead backend strategy, architecture, and team growth while remaining highly hands-on technically. This is a leadership role for someone who still loves engineering. You’ll own backend direction across a modern, high-scale platform while helping build a strong, product-focused engineering culture. They are especially interested in profiles with: Founding Engineer or startup leadership experience Previous experience scaling engineering teams from early stages Strong product mindset and entrepreneurial mentality Builders who have launched products or meaningful side projects Responsibilities Own backend architecture and technical direction Lead and mentor a growing backend engineering team Stay close to the codebase through design, reviews, and implementation Drive scalability, reliability, and platform performance Collaborate with Product and senior leadership on roadmap planning Improve engineering standards, delivery processes, and system design practices The stack is flexible, but strong experience in several areas is expected: Golang preferred OR Python, Node.js Distributed systems \& API architecture GCP and cloud infrastructure Microservices architecture SQL / NoSQL databases CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Observability and production monitoring Why This Opportunity?
