Design Lead / Senior Solution Architect (082323F)

RefermentManchester, England, UK

Referment is working with a financial services technology company that builds enterprise data management and automation platforms for banks and asset managers. Engineering is organised around product and platform teams, and architecture is central to how new cloud, distributed and AI capabilities are introduced. The Role You'll own end-to-end solution architecture for enterprise-grade applications and platforms, defining blueprints, design standards and technology roadmaps, and leading architecture reviews that set the standard for engineering teams. You'll produce high-level and low-level designs that address functional and non-functional needs, and drive decisions on scalability, resilience, security, observability and performance. Day to day you'll work across product, business stakeholders, UX and engineering leaders, and partner with DevOps and cloud teams to shape deployment and operating models. You'll design cloud-native solutions on AWS, architect microservices, event-driven systems and API-led integrations, and define cloud security, networking and disaster-recovery approaches. A significant part of the mandate is responsible use of AI: integrating services such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock and Hugging Face, and championing AI-assisted engineering and intelligent automation. You'll also mentor development teams and present architecture strategies to executive audiences. What We're Looking For * Strong experience designing enterprise-scale solutions with .NET, .NET Core, C# and modern frameworks. * Deep knowledge of solution architecture principles, design patterns, domain-driven design and object-oriented design. * Proven expertise in microservices, event-driven and distributed systems, and API-led integration. * Experience with RESTful API design and enterprise integration patterns. * Modern web platform design using Angular. * Relational and NoSQL data platforms such as SQL Server, MongoDB and Cosmos DB. * Hands-on use of AI-enabled engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or equivalents, plus experience integrating AI services and evaluating AI/ML-driven solutions. * Familiarity with prompt engineering, LLM integration, RAG architectures and AI-powered automation. * Strategic thinking and stakeholder management, with the ability to make complex technical concepts clear to non-technical audiences. * A degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Desirable * Architecting and optimising large-scale distributed cloud systems. * Performance engineering, observability, monitoring and operational excellence. * DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and platform automation. * Enterprise security architecture, identity management and compliance frameworks. * Scripting with PowerShell, Python or Bash. * AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF or equivalent certifications. This could suit a solution architect or technical design lead already operating across enterprise systems who wants broader architectural ownership, or an experienced engineer ready to step into a lead architecture role. #Referment

Software Engineer

About Foundation Health Foundation Health is an AI operating system for pharmacy - built by a team who lived the problem firsthand, not one that came to healthcare from the outside. Every day, prior authorizations delay prescriptions, pharmacists lose hours to paperwork instead of patients, and prescriptions slip through the cracks between health systems. We believe thoughtfully applied AI can finally change that - deep, integrated infrastructure that streamlines how care is coordinated, purpose-built for the complexity of specialty pharmacy. We're building toward a world where pharmacy teams spend their time on patients, not paperwork - where AI handles the routine so clinicians can focus on what only humans can do. Getting there takes the right people. We're looking for curious, ambitious folks who want to help solve healthcare's hardest problems - for our patients, our partners, and each other. The team: AI-native by design Our VP of Engineering comes from DeepMind/Google, and we're building with AI from day one, both in the product and in how we engineer. We use AI tools to move faster, automate repetitive work and spend more time on problems that need real engineering judgement. What you'll actually be doing Designing and building the back-end systems that connect pharmacies, health systems and insurers Solving hard distributed-systems problems: event-driven workflows, retries, idempotency, data consistency and failure recovery Owning substantial features from the initial problem through architecture, build, deployment and production Making pragmatic technical decisions as we scale, without overengineering for problems we don't have yet Building AI-powered capabilities into a live product, where reliability and correctness matter as much as speed Working directly with product and engineering leadership to shape the roadmap, architecture and what we build next Manchester: where our core engineering team works Our core engineering team is based in Manchester city centre. We're in the office together 1–2 days a week to work through hard problems and debate technical decisions. The rest of the week, work wherever you're most effective. Not in Manchester yet? If you'd consider relocating, we can help with the move. Why you'd leave your current role Your work reaches real users . We're live with enterprise customers, so what you ship gets used, not lost in a backlog. Interesting engineering problems . We're connecting fragmented healthcare systems, where data integrity and correctness really matter. This isn't a CRUD app with an AI feature bolted on. Real ownership . You'll shape solutions, challenge assumptions and influence the roadmap and architecture. We want you making important technical decisions, not just implementing someone else's. No legacy baggage . We're on a modern Node.js, TypeScript and GCP stack. You don't need to know it already. We care far more about the systems you've built than the tools you used. Equity . You'll own a stake in the company you're helping build. What we do care about Strong engineering judgement . You can take an ambiguous problem, work out what matters, make sensible trade-offs and deliver without every step mapped out. Back-end depth . You've built and operated production systems and know what happens beyond the happy path: distributed systems, databases, performance, observability and failure recovery. Ownership beyond the code . You think about how a feature behaves in production, how customers use it and what could go wrong. You've made technical decisions with real consequences and can explain why you made them. A builder's mindset . You've taken meaningful projects from idea to reality, at work or in your own time, and can explain the decisions and trade-offs you made. Curiosity about AI . You've built AI products, use AI to improve how you work, or are actively exploring what's possible. You don't need to be an ML researcher. Strong fundamentals . You reason from first principles and pick up unfamiliar tech quickly. A degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics or Engineering is useful, but depth of engineering ability matters most. Interested? The funding's in place, the product is live and customers are asking for more than we can build. We're hiring engineers in Manchester to help close that gap. Product Manager

Mark43Manchester, England, UK

From $43/yr

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the country in which the role is being hired. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Mark43's mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team. We are looking for a Product Manager to help shape the future of Case Management within Mark43's UK platform. You will bring a strong understanding of policing and public safety and the operational realities of the people who use our products, helping us turn complex requirements and workflows into technology that feels intuitive, dependable, and purpose-built. You will own meaningful parts of the Case product lifecycle while also developing fluency across the broader Mark43 platform. You will work closely with customers, Product, Design, Engineering, Delivery, and other teams to take problems from discovery through launch and adoption. What You'll Do If you were part of our product team, here are some things you might have done last week: * Spent time with police officers, staff, and other users understanding how an investigation moves from initial reporting through case management and identifying friction that technology can remove. * Worked with Design and Engineering to turn a complicated operational or policy requirement into a simple, scalable product experience. * Refined the Case roadmap and backlog using customer feedback, market insights, product strategy, and data. * Defined the problem, requirements, and success measures for an upcoming capability and worked with your team to move it towards delivery. * Demonstrated new functionality to a customer and incorporated what you learned into future iterations. * Provided product and public safety expertise to Sales, Delivery, Customer Success, and other internal teams. * Explored where AI or new approaches to software development could reduce administrative work, surface useful information, or improve the user experience while maintaining appropriate safeguards. * Jumped into a problem outside of Case to support another UK Product Manager and continue building your understanding of the full Mark43 platform. What You'll Need We're looking for a Product Manager with experience owning complex software products or workflows from discovery through delivery and adoption. Enterprise SaaS experience is valuable, but for this role we are particularly interested in candidates who bring meaningful knowledge of policing, public safety, criminal justice, or adjacent government workflows in the UK . You should be able to translate deep domain knowledge into great product decisions rather than simply recreating existing processes in software. You will need the business, design, and technical acumen to have productive conversations with customers, designers, engineers, and commercial teams. Experience with AI-enabled products, software-driven development approaches, or data-intensive products is beneficial. People who thrive on our team also tend to share the following characteristics: * Humble, open, and curious. You bring expertise without assuming you already know the answer and are excited to keep learning from users and teammates. * Strong listeners and problem solvers. You look beyond feature requests to understand the underlying problem and the outcome a user is trying to achieve. * Enthusiastic collaborators. You believe the best products come from shared ownership across Product, Design, Engineering, customers, and subject matter experts. * Comfortable with complexity. You can work through policy, workflow, data, and technical constraints and find a clear path forward. * Team oriented. You develop knowledge beyond your immediate product area and actively help teammates succeed. This role is based in Manchester, with an expectation of working from our Manchester office three days per week. The role will also require regular engagement with customers and teams across the UK. Due to the nature of our work with UK policing, the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain NPPV Level 3 (NPPV3) clearance. Mark43 is approved to hire in Canada, the UK, and 36 U.S. states, including Alabama, Arizona, California (excluding San Francisco), Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Before applying to a remote role, please ensure that you are able to perform the position in one of the states listed above. State locations and specifics are subject to change as our hiring requirements shift. Our Privacy Notice describes how Mark43 uses and protects the personal information of prospective employees during the recruitment process. It informs you about our handling of the personal information you provide to us when you apply for a position in our organization and in general when you express your interest in joining our team. As a part of Mark43's security measures all employees must: Engage in appropriate use of the company's electronic information resources; Become knowledgeable about and follow relevant security policies and guidelines; Protect the resources under their control, such as passwords, computers, and data that they create, receive, or download; and Promptly report security-related incidents and violations, and responding to official reports of security incidents involving their systems or accounts. Mark43 is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or genetic information.
