BEACON ACADEMY OF NEVADA Superintendent Job Description Under the direction of the Beacon Academy of Nevada Governing Board, the Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer and educational leader of a state public charter high school providing alternative education services through a comprehensive distance education model, supported by two physical campuses in Nevada. The Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, academic performance, financial performance, operational integrity, regulatory compliance, organizational health of Beacon Academy of Nevada, and ensures alignment with the school’s mission, Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), Nevada Administrative Code (NAC), and requirements of the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and the State Public Charter School Authority, ensuring high-quality educational opportunities for diverse and at-risk student populations, The Superintendent provides unified executive leadership over academic, operational, financial, and compliance functions; ensures adherence to all applicable federal and state laws, charter requirements, and Board policies; provides strategic direction; and leads the school in fulfilling its mission as an alternative, blended education program serving at-risk students. The Superintendent directly supervises the Chief Operations Officer and Site Principals and serves as the primary liaison to the Governing Board, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE), and the State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA). Terms of Employment: 12-month per Contract of Employment Salary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the school district in which the administrative offices of Beacon Academy are located. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Beacon Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary. FLSA Status: Exempt Classification: Executive Leadership ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Authority and Decision Making The Superintendent has full authority over the day-to-day management and administration of the school, subject to Board policy and applicable law. Authority includes: Delegation of operational authority to the Chief Operations Officer Personnel supervision, discipline, and recommendations for hiring and termination Organizational restructuring and assignment of duties Enforcement of Board-approved policies and procedures Emergency decision-making to protect students, staff, and school operations The Superintendent may take immediate action in emergency or compliance-related situations, with prompt notification to the Governing Board. Governance \& Board Relations Serve as the chief executive and primary professional advisor to the Governing Board. Act as the primary liaison to the charter authorizer, Nevada Department of Education, and other state and federal agencies. Implement Board-adopted policies, resolutions, and strategic priorities. Oversee the preparation of Board agendas, reports, and recommendations in compliance with Nevada Open Meeting Law. Ensure the Board receives accurate, timely, and actionable information with accurate data, reports, and recommendations. Provide strategic leadership and long-term planning to ensure academic success, financial sustainability, and regulatory compliance. Maintain clear governance boundaries between Board oversight and administration. Academic Leadership \& Accountability Establish and communicate a clear academic vision aligned with the school’s charter. Ensure compliance with the Nevada State Alternative Performance Framework and charter accountability measures. Monitor academic performance, assessment systems, interventions, and graduation outcomes. Hold Site Principals accountable for instructional quality and student achievement. Ensure alignment of curriculum, assessment, and instructional delivery across campuses. Lead the design and continuous improvement of innovative online and blended learning models. Ensure programs effectively serve at-risk, credit-deficient, highly mobile, and nontraditional learners. Promote equitable access to technology, instructional support, and student services statewide. Student Services, Discipline \& Due Process Provide executive oversight of student enrollment, attendance, discipline, counseling, and re-engagement. Ensure compliance with due process requirements for student discipline. Serve as the final administrative authority for suspensions, expulsions, and disciplinary appeals. Ensure FERPA-compliant records management and data privacy protections. Compliance, Risk Management \& Legal Oversight Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and charter requirements. Oversee audits, investigations, corrective action plans, and compliance responses. Serve as the primary administrative liaison with SPCSA, NDE, auditors, and investigators. Coordinate with legal counsel on employment, governance, and regulatory matters. Ensure public records, records retention, and transparency requirements are met. Ensure full compliance with NRS, NAC, charter contract obligations, and authorizer requirements. Oversee federal and state program compliance (e.g., Title programs, special education, English Learners, McKinney-Vento). Lead preparation and submission of required reports, audits, and performance frameworks. Financial Oversight \& Fiscal Stewardship Provide executive oversight of budgeting, financial planning, fundraising, and fiscal controls. Work in cooperation with the board regarding fundraising activities. Oversee development and management of the school’s annual budget. Delegate operational financial management to the COO while retaining executive accountability. Ensure compliance with SPCSA Financial and Organizational Performance Frameworks. Monitor enrollment, attendance, and funding integrity. Identify fiscal risks and recommend corrective actions to the Board. Ensure responsible stewardship of public funds and compliance with state and federal fiscal requirements. Supervise school operations including enrollment, transportation (if applicable), technology infrastructure, and vendor contracts. Human Capital \& Organizational Leadership Supervise, evaluate, and support senior leadership, including the COO and Site Principals. Ensure lawful, consistent, and ethical personnel practices. Lead organizational restructuring, role clarity, and performance accountability. Address executive-level personnel and labor issues. Foster a professional, respectful, collaborative, accountable, and mission-aligned workplace culture. School Climate, Culture \& Community Engagement Lead schoolwide culture, climate, and trust-building initiatives Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school; represent the school publicly and advocate for alternative education students. Maintain effective communication with staff, students, families, and community partners. Support enrollment growth, student retention, and family engagement. Promote strong relationships with students, families, and community partners county and statewide. Emergency Management \& Safety Exercise authority to act in emergencies to ensure safety and operational continuity. Ensure continuity of operations planning and crisis preparedness. Coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts with the COO and site leaders. Strategic Planning \& Sustainability Lead long-term strategic planning and enrollment strategy. Build leadership capacity and succession plans. Ensure institutional knowledge, systems, and documentation are maintained. Position the school for sustained academic, operational, and financial success. Minimum Requirements of the Position Required Nevada Superintendent or Administrative License, or eligibility pursuant to NRS 391 Master’s degree or higher in Educational Leadership, School Administration, Public Administration, or related field Minimum five (5) years of senior-level K–12 leadership experience with system-wide responsibilities Demonstrated experience working directly with a governing board Demonstrated knowledge of: + Nevada education law and charter governance + SPCSA Academic, Financial, and Organizational Performance Frameworks + Proven experience leading organizational change, stabilization, or turnaround + Experience overseeing academics, finance, compliance, and personnel functions Preferred Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) Prior Superintendent or Interim Superintendent experience Nevada charter school leadership experience Demonstrated experience working with alternative education, at-risk, or nontraditional student populations. Strong knowledge of distance education, online learning platforms, and virtual school operations. Strong data-driven decision-making and change management skills.
