Construction Superintendent (DOT)

About Us We are a leading heavy civil and site construction company specializing in complex infrastructure projects, including roadways, utilities, bridges, and large-scale earthwork. Our team delivers high‑quality, safe, and efficient construction services for state agencies, municipalities, and private clients. We are seeking an experienced Superintendent with a strong background in DOT work to join our field leadership team. Position Overview The Superintendent oversees daily field operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with all plans, specs, and DOT requirements. This role requires strong coordination skills, leadership presence in the field, and the ability to drive production while maintaining a culture of safety and quality. Key Responsibilities Manage and supervise all on-site construction activities, crews, subcontractors, and vendors. Coordinate daily staffing, equipment, materials, and subcontractor needs. Ensure all work conforms to project plans, specifications, and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards. Maintain project schedule, identify bottlenecks, and adjust field operations to meet deadlines. Conduct daily safety meetings, enforce company and regulatory safety guidelines, and maintain a clean, safe site. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, foremen, and inspectors to resolve field issues. Track quantities, monitor productivity, and report progress. Document daily activities, field reports, and issue logs. Foster positive relationships with inspectors, owners, and project stakeholders. Qualifications 5+ years of superintendent or senior foreman experience in heavy civil, highway, or site construction. DOT project experience required (state DOT experience preferred: e.g., RIDOT, MassDOT, CTDOT). Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods, including earthwork, utilities, drainage, paving, and structures. Proven ability to plan and lead large crews effectively. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Proficient with project documentation, daily logs, and basic technology (tablets, project management apps, etc.). OSHA 30 certification. Ability to read plans, specs, and interpret civil/structural drawings.
