Deine Position At 1KOMMA5°, we connect and manage distributed energy devices at scale. As an IoT Hardware Engineer, you will play a central role in the definition, evolution, and lifecycle management of our 1K5 Heartbeat Gateway hardware, the edge device that securely connects thousands of energy assets to our cloud ecosystem. You will be the primary hardware owner within the team, being responsible for the gateway’s hardware architecture end-to-end while closely coordinating with developers, supply chain team, and certification partners. Working at the intersection of electronics design, embedded engineering, manufacturing, and compliance, you will ensure that our gateway hardware is reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and evolved at scale. Your work will directly impact the robustness, longevity, and regulatory readiness of the distributed energy infrastructure we deploy at scale. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Own the hardware architecture of our IoT gateway, from concept and component selection through production and lifecycle management Work closely together with the product manager to define system-level requirements covering performance, reliability, security, manufacturability, and cost Act as the main interface between hardware, embedded software, and manufacturing, ensuring tight alignment across disciplines Oversee board-level validation, debugging, and failure analysis during prototyping, pilot runs, and field operation Define and support hardware test strategies for production, including manufacturing flashing processes Drive hardware-related certification activities (e.g. CE, EMC, safety, radio), working with external labs and internal stakeholders Support secure hardware foundations, including secure boot enablement in collaboration with embedded software colleagues Manage hardware revisions, BOM management, and supply-chain constraints over the product lifecycle Technologies you will work with include: Embedded hardware (e.g. SoCs, compute modules, secure elements) Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, BOM management Manufacturing processes: prototyping, assembly, flashing, and testing Certification workflows: CE, EMC, safety, radio, environmental regulations Close collaboration with embedded Linux and IoT software stacks Dein Profil The successful candidate will have: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field 5+ years of experience in hardware engineering for embedded or IoT systems Proven experience owning hardware designs from specification through production Strong experience coordinating and technically steering external hardware development partners Solid understanding of embedded systems constraints and hardware–software interaction Hands-on experience with hardware validation, debugging, and root-cause analysis Practical exposure to certification processes and working with external test labs Familiarity with manufacturing processes, production testing, and supply-chain considerations Ability to work autonomously as the hardware specialist within a cross-functional team Strong analytical skills and a structured, detail-oriented working style Clear and effective communicator in English (German is a plus) Bonus points for: Previous work on energy-related hardware Prior involvement in field-return analysis and systematic hardware root-cause investigations Experience contributing to cross-functional architectural decisions beyond a single discipline Passion for climate tech and distributed energy systems We are an ambitious and dynamic company with a talented team. About the Role The Head of Hardware Engineering will lead the teams responsible for the design, development, and testing of electromechanical systems that are integral to Miso Robotics’ cutting-edge products. Reporting to the CTO you will manage and grow a talented team of engineers while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust hardware solutions. This role requires technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a passion for innovation. Responsibilities • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and manage the hardware engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Robotics), fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability. Develop the skills and capabilities of team members to align with the company’s strategic goals and unlock career growth potential. • Product Development: Oversee the design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of electromechanical systems, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and reliability requirements. Collaborate with software, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated hardware-software solutions. • Technical Excellence: Ensure the mechanical engineering team delivers high-quality designs that meet product specifications and deadlines. Qualifications • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. • 10+ years of experience in Hardware Engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role. • Proven track record of delivering complex hardware products, preferably in robotics, Automation, Autonomous Vehicles, Aerospace or related industries. • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle management. • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams, including software, supply chain, Ops, and manufacturing engineering. • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD). • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. • Startup experience is a plus.
