Optimize frontend performance including bundle size, rendering speed, lazy loading, and caching strategies for high-traffic pages. Take end-to-end ownership of key features and product areas, from implementation through deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability. Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to accelerate routine work, explore unfamiliar code, and stay focused on the hard problems that need human judgment. Support CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployments. Participate in code reviews to foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence. Work cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to translate requirements into polished, user-facing features. Actively contribute to technical discussions, clarify open questions, and help shape implementation approaches alongside senior engineers. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Required Skills \& Experience 3–5 years of professional software development experience with a strong frontend portfolio. Hands-on experience consuming GraphQL APIs using Apollo Client or similar libraries. Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive/accessible design principles (WCAG). Experience with modern testing frameworks (Vitest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress). Experience with Git-based workflows, code review practices, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar). Comfort working with AI-assisted development tools (code assistants, agentic dev environments, etc.) as part of a modern engineering workflow. Proficiency with documentation tools and design collaboration platforms such as Figma. Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. Hands-on experience with Apollo GraphQL Server or GraphQL Federation. Proven track record in web performance optimization, application stability, and debugging for large-scale applications. Staff Frontend Software Engineer

bitdriftNot specifiedremote

Remote, North America or European Union time zone overlap required Full Time When the tech giants arrived, they promised boundless connectivity, endless data, and a digital utopia. Reality check: We're drowning in a sea of useless information. Enter bitdrift. We're here to rewrite the script, giving engineers the power to control the chaos and turn down the noise. We are on the hunt for an experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to help us radically redefine how our customers explore and visualize their observability data. You'll work hand-in-hand with designers, mobile engineers, back-end developers, and leadership to create user experiences that are not only intuitive and responsive but truly stand out. You'll be a key voice in driving our frontend technical direction and architecture, ensuring development remains efficient and high-quality. As a force multiplier across the team, your impact will extend well beyond the UI—you will leverage your JavaScript expertise to shape our SDKs and play an active role in API design and implementation. This is your chance to make a significant impact and redefine what's possible for our users! bitdrift exists to fundamentally reshape the mobile observability status quo—a critical piece of the observability picture that has been historically neglected. It is both extremely important (what good is a 99.9% server success rate when the app is hard down from a bad JSON response?) and notoriously hard. Throwing server best practices at mobile ("ingest everything!") simply doesn’t work across hundreds of millions of devices due to skyrocketing costs, sporadic networking, and constant app suspensions. We take a fundamentally different approach. We couple a control plane with local storage provided by a sophisticated SDK. Telemetry is spooled locally to each device and only uploaded when finite state machines, running on the device, match specific conditions that are updated in real-time. As we like to say this provides 1000x the data when you need it, and none when you don’t. The systems that power this technology are both novel and extremely interesting and this is your opportunity to do something very different in the observability space. bitdrift is a bit of an unusual startup in that we’ve been at this for a while. The bitdrift team used to work at Lyft, and over several years developed a comprehensive internal solution to the problems outlined above. It supported 50+ million devices at Lyft and was the kernel of what is known as bitdrift Capture today. We spun out as an independent company in 2023 with Lyft as our first marquee customer, and raised $15M from leading investors like Amplify Partners. We are a small team of kind and talented people. Join us as we navigate the murky waters of observability with renewed hope. WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR Contribute to the technical architecture and long-term vision for our frontend across multiple products. Develop scalable, highly optimized, and maintainable front-end code using TypeScript and React to craft delightful UIs that make our observability tools shine. Build, improve, and maintain the front-end infrastructure that powers smooth development, testing, and deployment. Collaborate closely with design, product, and engineering to ensure everything looks great and works flawlessly. Implement observability tools like logging and monitoring to keep an eye on performance and user behavior. Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and tools that take our user experiences to the next level. Communicate directly with customers to announce new features and troubleshoot issues. WHO YOU ARE 8+ years of professional front-end development experience. Deep technical knowledge of JavaScript \& TypeScript. Proven track record of defining and delivering frontend architecture at scale. Passionate about best practices and making front-end development cleaner, faster, and smarter. Proficiency in monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). Strong understanding of web performance optimization, security practices, and cross-browser compatibility. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a keen eye for detail. Ability to self direct, break down tasks, and prioritize. Excited to work with a highly skilled team in a fast-paced environment. Bonus: experience with back-end development, mobile development (particularly React Native), or creating accessible, non-standard interfaces. WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST 30 DAYS Ramp up rapidly through an accelerated onboarding process, pairing with the engineering team to gain deep familiarity with our existing codebase and products. Ship to production quickly by tackling a number of targeted bug fixes and smaller feature requests. Learn our current frontend architecture and begin identifying areas for future technical investment and improvement. WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST 90 DAYS Take personal ownership of multiple front-end projects on our roadmap, demonstrating the ability to work fluidly across all our existing products. Propose and implement meaningful architectural and performance improvements. Engage directly with customers during integrations, troubleshooting sessions, and product feedback syncs. Boost developer productivity by improving documentation, and lowering the barrier to entry for contributing to frontend features. WHAT WE OFFER ##### Impactful Benefits Competitive salary and benefits that recognize your value. Flexible hours and remote work options to fit your lifestyle. Generous PTO policy so you can recharge when needed. Professional growth opportunities to accelerate your career. ##### Energizing Challenges Work with cutting-edge technology and stay ahead of the curve. Tackle meaningful projects that drive innovation and creativity. Opportunities to lead initiatives and shape the future of the company. ##### Exceptional Colleagues\ Join a vibrant, collaborative team that celebrates wins together. Inclusive, supportive environment where everyone's voice is valued. Regular in-person meetups and events to bond and share ideas. \ WHO TOTALLY DIDN'T WRITE THIS THEMSELVES HOW TO APPLY Please send your resume, portfolio, and a brief cover letter detailing your relevant experience to jobs@bitdrift.io. We envision a more dynamic financial industry where the underbanked find more access to the financial products they need. The Frontend Platform team creates the foundations that make it easier for engineers to build high-quality product experiences quickly, consistently, and with confidence. We work across shared UI systems, frontend architecture, developer experience, performance, reliability, and the tools that help teams ship well. This is a team for engineers who enjoy working at a leverage point. Instead of owning a single feature area, we shape the patterns, primitives, and workflows that many teams build on top of. Our work sits at the intersection of product engineering, design systems, and platform thinking, with a strong focus on creating durable solutions that improve the experience for both developers and end users. We’re still an evolving team with room to define our scope and raise our ambition over time. That makes this an especially strong opportunity for someone who wants to help shape not just what gets built, but how frontend engineering is practiced. We’re excited about modern tooling, including AI-assisted and agentic workflows, and we believe the best engineers use them to extend strong judgment, not replace it. Alloy operates in a hybrid-work environment. We look to foster collaboration and community by having our local employees onsite three days a week. What you'll be doing Build and improve the shared frontend foundations that other engineers rely on, including reusable components, patterns, tooling, and platform capabilities Help define the architecture, standards, and best practices that make our frontend systems more scalable, maintainable, and consistent Build and improve customer-facing product surfaces across the Alloy platform, helping shape frontend systems and experiences that are not only scalable for engineers, but genuinely useful and intuitive for the people using them Partner closely with engineers, designers, and product counterparts to turn broad needs into simple, durable solutions with company-wide impact Raise the quality bar for frontend engineering through thoughtful design, strong implementation, clear documentation, and pragmatic technical leadership Improve the developer experience by reducing friction in local development, testing, release workflows, observability, and day-to-day engineering workflows Identify opportunities to modernize how we build, ship, and maintain frontend software, including responsible use of AI and agentic engineering tools where they increase quality and leverage Contribute as a senior engineer on a growing team: driving technical decisions, mentoring others, and helping shape the team’s direction as its charter expands Who we’re looking for You’re a senior frontend engineer with 5+ years of experience, deep fundamentals in JavaScript or TypeScript, modern HTML and CSS, and experience building complex web applications with a modern framework such as React You have strong engineering judgment and know how to balance product needs, user experience, long-term maintainability, and delivery speed You’ve worked on shared systems before, whether that means design systems, frontend architecture, internal platforms, developer tooling, or other cross-cutting investments You care about quality in the broad sense: clean abstractions, accessibility, performance, testing, reliability, and thoughtful user experience You’re comfortable operating in ambiguity and can help shape a problem space that is still evolving rather than waiting for every requirement to be fully defined You collaborate well across disciplines and communicate clearly with engineers, designers, and stakeholders with different perspectives You use new tools thoughtfully. You’re curious about AI-enabled ways of working and can incorporate them into your workflow without outsourcing core engineering thinking You’re motivated by leverage and craft: you want to build the systems that help an entire engineering organization do better work We're a lean team, so your impact will be felt immediately, and opportunities will grow as the company scales up. If this all sounds like a good fit for you, why not join us? Alloy is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Below is the anticipated starting base compensation range for this role; however, pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, in-demand skills, relevant experience, and/or geography. HearthNew York, NYhybrid

$180,000 - $198,000/yr

Location: NYC (Hybrid, 3x/week) Compensation: $180k–$198k base salary range based on level and experience, plus a generous pre-IPO equity package About Hearth Hearth is the AI growth system for local home improvement small businesses. We build revenue-critical software for home improvement contractors — the roofers, HVAC techs, and builders who keep America running. Our platform helps real business owners win more jobs, protect profit margins, and manage homeowner relationships professionally so they can build generational companies for their families and communities. We are now building the next layer: a personal AI employee for every small business in the trades focused on autonomously generating sales for America’s home improvement pros. An assistant who answers every call 24/7, qualifies leads, books appointments, follows up on quotes and estimates, and helps small business owners go from missing half of their business to capturing all of it. With 15,000+ paying customers, default profitability, and backing from some of the world’s best investors (Founder’s Fund, 8VC, Human Capital, etc.), Hearth is focused on bringing AI to the trades. With 15,000+ paying customers, default profitability, and backing from some of the world’s best investors (Founder’s Fund, 8VC, Human Capital, etc.), Hearth is focused on bringing AI to the trades. The Opportunity We are searching for the right strong frontend engineer who will help us achieve our vision of helping millions of real local businesses succeed - someone who treats product quality as seriously as our customers treat their craft. We are searching for the right high-judgment Senior Frontend Engineer (React) to raise the bar on frontend quality and deliver powerful AI-powered workflows in a simple, reliable, intuitive way. You will take data-heavy, form-heavy, workflow-driven systems and make them simple and dependable for non-technical business owners at scale. Today, our customers depend on Hearth to run their businesses. When our technology works, contractors win more jobs. The frontend is where all of that comes together. You will take ownership of that customer experience and make it feel effortless. What You'll Do Lead management workflows — displaying, filtering, and acting on high volumes of inbound data from calls, texts, and web forms AI messaging interfaces — building the UI layer on top of our AI communication engine, where contractors review, customize, and send AI-generated messages Quoting and invoicing tools — complex form flows with validation, calculations, and edge cases that matter (wrong number format, missing fields, partial data) Integrations UI — connecting with third-party services like Twilio, payment processors, and CRMs, and surfacing that data cleanly Automation configuration — letting non-technical users set up AI-powered workflows without breaking things What We’re Looking For React depth. 4–8 years building production SaaS applications with modern React. Hooks, async state management, complex form logic. You’ve built real features for real users and dealt with the messy parts — validation, permissions, error states, slow connections. API fluency. You’re comfortable integrating with REST APIs, handling async errors gracefully, and building UI that degrades well when the backend doesn’t cooperate. Product instinct. You think about the person using what you build. When a design is ambiguous, you ask questions instead of guessing. When a requirement doesn’t make sense, you push back. You’ve built software for non-technical users and understand that simplicity is harder than complexity. Self-testing discipline. You try your own features before you ship them. You think about what happens when the input is empty, malformed, or unexpected. Bugs that a user would hit on first use don’t make it past you. Communication. You can explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical teammate in a few clear sentences. You’re comfortable working directly with backend engineers, customer success, and sales. Startup velocity. You’ve worked somewhere that ships fast and iterates. You’re energized by that, not stressed by it. Ideal Qualifications Experience with messaging or notification systems (Twilio, real-time channels) CRM or lead management product background Experience building for SMB or blue-collar customer segments History of improving inherited frontend codebases What We’re Not Looking For You lack pride in your work product and craft You rely heavily on QA to catch workflow bugs You measure success through completing tickets rather than delivering customer value You need heavy management or hand-holding You’ve only worked in large companies with narrow ownership of what hits the market You treat bugs as “edge cases” instead of failures to study You’re looking for a “chill” job rather than an opportunity to do your life’s work and build something truly impactful You’re uncomfortable speaking with customers or working across teams Why This Role Real impact on real people. Our customers are business owners building real things. Over 50% go out of business without software like Hearth. When you ship a feature that works, a contractor in Phoenix closes a job they would have missed, and a Roofer in Texas stops losing 40% of inbound calls because he’s on a job site, and a Fence pro in Delaware gets to come home for dinner with his family. The feedback loop between your code and someone’s livelihood is short and tangible. A real business with serious traction and massive upside. Hearth is growing, profitable, and already has 15,000+ customers. This isn’t a proof of concept - this is an opportunity to build the most ambitious version of a technology that powers a trillion dollar market. You would be building the customer experiences that power that transformation - early enough for meaningful equity and late enough for strong foundations. Elevate the Frontend Culture. Our customers are tradespeople who take pride in their work. We expect the same pride in our builders. We optimize for Craft, ownership, curiosity, high-agency, and the hunger to build something that actually matters in the world. Our Core Values Truth. We value honesty and data. We seek to understand what is reality, so we can effectively respond to it. Slope. Rate of change over time. We hire and reward based on a team member’s potential, capacity, and growth-mindset, rather than a fancy resume. Mutual Benefit. The best outcomes happen when everyone wins - customers, team members, and the company. We seek to understand each other’s aspirations and create alignment to get there. Competitive Greatness. We desire an opportunity and environment from which to pull the greatest versions of ourselves out into the world, rather than just a “job”. Location This role will be located in NYC along with the rest of the technical Hearth team, the CEO, and other key roles in the business. Hearth believes in the energy, connection, and serendipity of in-person/hybrid work culture (3+ days/week) for builders who are committed to building truly innovative software and making a significant positive impact in the world. Benefits Mission-driven, values-based culture. Competitive pay. Unmatched opportunities to learn and develop; front-row seat at a fast-growing tech startup Generous PTO, plus paid company holidays. Stock options. Medical, dental, and vision options. 401(k) Free Employee Assistance Program Parental Leave Program Pet Insurance More About Us Hearth embraces diversity. The mission of the Developer Experience org is to design, develop, and support tools and processes that make common developer workflows efficient and reliable. AI-powered and agentic developer tools are changing what is possible, creating an opportunity to rethink how engineers write, test, review, ship, and operate software. At Reddit’s scale, that means building tools that are not only more intelligent, but also faster, more reliable, easier to use, and grounded in strong engineering fundamentals. This role sits at the center of that work: owning frontend development for Reddit’s internal developer tooling, from understanding developer pain points and designing the right user experience to building scalable, maintainable interfaces that support the full path from the first line of code to the artifact released at the end of the process. You’ll help explore new AI-powered workflows while continuing to build the core interfaces, platform capabilities, and engineering fundamentals that make developer tools useful, trustworthy, and reliable. Some of our present and future challenges include: Designing and building the next generation of developer tooling, including agentic and AI-powered workflows. Improving developer velocity, confidence, and service reliability across Reddit Engineering. Building tools and workflows that make writing, testing, reviewing, and shipping code easier. Architecting and improving continuous delivery experiences for hundreds of engineers. Scaling our infrastructure, interfaces, and processes to serve a growing engineering organization. Understanding internal users’ needs and turning that understanding into meaningful product and technical improvements. You’ll draw on your frontend expertise, technical judgment, and leadership skills to build developer tooling that is smooth, reliable, easy to use, and valuable to a growing engineering organization. You’ll work directly with engineers across Reddit to understand their pain points, shape solutions, incorporate feedback, and communicate the impact of the team’s work. What You’ll Do ------------------ Work cross-functionally across Reddit Engineering to understand developer needs, quickly prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback. Own frontend development for internal developer tooling, from solution design and implementation through launch and long-term maintainability. Build scalable, maintainable interfaces across both AI-powered developer workflows and the core non-AI systems engineers rely on every day. Lead high-impact projects across Reddit’s developer tooling ecosystem by writing and reviewing code and design docs, aligning stakeholders, and making pragmatic technical tradeoffs. Improve the team’s tools, processes, and best practices while raising the bar for quality, usability, and maintainability. Mentor engineers and help shape a roadmap that reflects real developer needs and delivers meaningful improvements to Reddit’s engineering organization. You Have ------------ 5+ years of hands-on, post-grad, non-internship professional software development experience, with frontend engineering as a core strength. Strong proficiency with modern frontend development using TypeScript or JavaScript. Experience with component-based frameworks such as React, Lit, or similar is valuable, but we care more about strong frontend fundamentals than any specific framework. Experience designing and building end-to-end web applications at scale, including user interfaces, API integrations, system design, testing, launch, and iteration. Hands-on experience using AI-powered developer tools and workflows as part of your own engineering practice, with curiosity and judgment about where these tools can meaningfully improve developer productivity. A track record of leading large, ambiguous projects that require cross-team collaboration, technical judgment, and clear ownership from problem definition through delivery. Strong software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code reviews, technical design, documentation, maintainability, and building scalable, well-designed systems. A user-focused mindset, with experience understanding user needs, working with feedback, and building reliable, usable, high-quality product experiences. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment, influence technical direction, and navigate complex requirements across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring engineers, raising the technical bar, and helping teams make pragmatic tradeoffs. A self-directed, action-oriented approach. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, learning quickly, and driving work forward even when the path is not fully defined. Bonus Points ---------------- Experience working in developer experience, developer productivity, internal platforms, or developer tooling. Experience building tools or workflows for internal engineering users. Experience conducting user discovery, interviews, or feedback sessions with technical users. Experience measuring the impact of frontend work through experimentation, measured rollouts, analytics, or qualitative feedback. Leverage agentic AI technologies and modern AI coding assistants as daily tools to accelerate and enhance the software development lifecycle. Work collaboratively with product managers, designers, architects, researchers, and other engineers to ship software incrementally with frequent customer feedback. Contribute to code reviews, evangelize engineering standards, and mentor more junior team members. Expertise in React, including hooks, state management, and component-based architecture. Solid experience in Java for backend API development, with the ability to navigate and understand complex backend systems to participate effectively in on-call triage and occasional backend contributions. Proven experience utilizing AI technologies to implement and build product features or solutions. Proficiency in frontend unit testing and automated end-to-end testing using frameworks like Playwright. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders using Slack, Zoom, and documentation tools such as Confluence and Google Docs/Presentations. Bonus points if you have Familiarity with streaming platforms like Kafka and an understanding of highly distributed systems. Experience working on products that handle extremely high data throughput. Previous experience deeply involved in site reliability work or maintaining complex streaming pipelines. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
