Strategy Associate - Commercial

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Join a high-growth, private equity-backed consumer business, currently entering an exciting new phase of investment and growth. Working closely with the Chief Commercial Officer and senior commercial leaders, you’ll own the commercial analysis behind the organisation’s biggest decisions, from demand and supply planning through to pricing, margin and customer strategy. You’ll structure problems, work out what matters and turn the numbers into clear recommendations that shape what the business produces, sources and sells. You’ll learn from senior strategy leaders who have made the move from top-tier consulting into industry themselves, with regular access to the CEO and executive team. It’s exposure well beyond a typical Associate role. Key responsibilities include: * Owning the demand forecast, turning sales team inputs into a single view of demand across markets and products, from the short term through to multi-year planning * Building cost-to-serve analysis by product and setting the margin floors and minimum prices the sales team negotiates against * Showing the real dollar impact of commercial decisions, from pricing trade-offs to channel mix across retail and wholesale customers * Shaping strategies for each product category, channel and customer, framed as clear options with a recommendation and refined as market conditions change * Steering third-party supply purchasing decisions, including what to buy, when and at what price * Partnering with senior commercial leaders to prepare for and lead key customer negotiations * Redesigning sales KPIs and dashboards around the decisions they need to support, working with the in-house reporting team * Getting to know the business from the ground up, spending your first weeks across operations and the supply chain What You'll Bring: * 2 to 5 years’ experience in management consulting gained within a leading management consulting firm, with a focus on strategy (e.g. McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Kearney, L.E.K., Oliver Wyman, Strategy\&, EY-Parthenon, Monitor Deloitte, Port Jackson Partners or similar) * Strong financial modelling and analytical skills, including scenario and blank-sheet modelling * The commercial judgement to turn analysis into a clear, confident recommendation * Confidence presenting to and influencing senior commercial leaders * Curiosity about how the operation works, healthy scepticism of the numbers and a hands-on approach to getting things done * Demand forecasting, S\&OP, pricing or product-level analysis, FMCG or consumer exposure, private equity-backed environments or Power BI skills highly regarded, though not essential If you’re looking for an opportunity to be mentored by experienced former consultants and senior commercial leaders, see your analysis drive real decisions, and build a long-term in-house career with pathways into commercial, supply chain or strategy leadership, please reach out for a confidential discussion, aislyn@oaktreetalent.com

You’ll work across both sides of the urfuture platform: Employer platform Our B2B product used by employers to attract, assess and manage entry-level talent, including our Marketplace and Signal products. Candidate app Our consumer app used by young people to discover jobs and careers through behavioural matching. The candidate app is also going through a major rebuild, so you’ll play a central role in managing that project and shaping the next version of the product. What you’ll be doing * You’ll own the product journey from discovery through to delivery. * That will include: * Owning and maintaining the product roadmap * Working with leadership to prioritise product development * Managing the rebuild of the candidate app * Owning product development across the B2B platform and Signal * Working directly with our in-house engineer and outsourced development team * Writing requirements, tickets and product specifications * Managing delivery through Jira * Running product discovery with customers and users * Gathering and prioritising customer feedback * Working with Account Management to understand customer needs * Working with Marketing to understand candidate and community feedback * Using product data to identify opportunities and areas of drop-off * Improving conversion through each stage of the candidate journey * Improving employer adoption and product usage * Testing and launching new features * Managing delivery timelines * Ensuring the product stays competitive and continues to improve This isn’t a role where you simply project manage a backlog. We currently use tools including: * Jira * Figma * Amplitude + Others You’ll be expected to understand metrics such as: * user engagement; * activation; * conversion; * drop-off; * feature adoption; * customer usage; * retention; * NPS; * customer satisfaction. We currently have a lean development setup, with an in-house engineer alongside an outsourced development team. You’ll sit at the centre of that relationship. You don’t need to write code yourself, but you should be comfortable discussing technical requirements, APIs, integrations and delivery with developers. Some technical understanding would be a big advantage, particularly as our platform integrates with employer technology and ATS systems. Success will mean * increasing candidate engagement; * improving conversion across the app; * reducing user drop-off; * increasing employer product adoption; * improving customer satisfaction; * successfully delivering new products and features; * keeping urfuture at the forefront of the market. Who we’re looking for You’ll ideally have around 2–5 years’ experience in Product Management, Product Ownership or a similar SaaS product role. Experience in any of the following would be useful: * B2B SaaS * Consumer apps * Marketplaces * Recruitment technology * HR technology * Startups or scale-ups * Products involving integrations or APIs * Startup experience would be a big advantage, but it isn’t essential. Why join now? This is a chance to have genuine ownership of product inside a growing technology company. You won’t be one Product Manager inside a team of 30. You’ll be close to customers, users, developers and leadership, and you’ll have a direct influence on what we build and how the product evolves. There is also a clear progression opportunity. As urfuture grows, we expect the product team to grow with it, creating a route towards roles such as Senior Product Manager, Product Lead or Head of Product for somebody who performs. Benefits * Manchester city centre office * Hybrid working — four days office / one day home * Birthday off * Regular team socials * Team trips and events * High levels of ownership * Direct exposure to the leadership team * Fast progression opportunities * The chance to own major product projects from an early stage * The opportunity to help shape both a B2B SaaS product and consumer app If you’re a Product Manager who wants more ownership, more exposure and the opportunity to build products that are still evolving quickly, we’d love to hear from you.
