Derivco is looking for a Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data-Hub team — the data engineering function responsible for the full data journey, from collection at source, through staging, to enrichment and aggregation for use in product and financial reporting. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can partner with the team's senior engineers and data architect to set strategic direction, then drive execution against real milestones. Data-Hub sits at the centre of the business — a wide range of technical and business stakeholders consume what your team produces, plus a close working relationship with our sister analytics team, who deliver analytics to the broader business. That means great exposure, but also means credibility is everything: you'll earn it by consistently meeting commitments and managing stakeholders well when challenges arise. A data engineering background will stand you in good stead, both to lead the team's technical direction and to act as a credible sounding board when they need one. The Opportunity Right Now Your first priority will be getting to know the team, the data flows, and the stakeholder landscape. From there, you'll help lead one of Data-Hub's most significant initiatives: extending our existing Snowflake data warehouse capability, moving our primary data warehouse off a daily SQL Server ETL process and onto near-real-time Snowflake pipelines. It's ambitious, high-visibility work that will stretch your leadership abilities — but you won't be doing it alone, with a dynamic peer leadership group and the wider leadership team there to support you. Longer term, Data-Hub is working towards unlocking true business insights in near-real time, delivered through both traditional reporting and AI self-service channels, alongside the sister analytics team. Derivco has also leaned heavily into AI to expand what our teams can do — including a move towards autonomous AI team members — so this role offers real scope to grow your own capability in applying AI within the technology space. What You'll Do Lead and grow the team * Manage and mentor the Data-Hub engineering team, partnering with senior engineers and the data architect to set strategic direction and translate it into executable milestones * Identify skill gaps, coordinate training, and establish technical focus areas for team members * Act as a technical sounding board and decision-support resource, drawing on your own data engineering background Own delivery and operational excellence * Prioritise and coordinate competing demands from a wide range of technical and business stakeholders * Implement data validation, documentation standards, and quality protocols so pipelines are accurate, replicable, and supportable * Drive process improvement and automation initiatives across the data flow, from source collection to staging and aggregation Manage budgets, contracts, and vendors * Take financial accountability for the function, including budget forecasting, cost control, and transparent reporting * Oversee contract renewals and vendor relationships for data platforms and tools, negotiating cost-effective terms Provide technical leadership * Maintain oversight of the team's technology stack across data warehousing, pipeline orchestration, and scripting languages * Evaluate new tools and methodologies, and guide solution design decisions across the data platform Partner with the business * Build strong working relationships with the many technical and business consumers of Data-Hub's output * Work closely with the sister analytics team, supporting them with routine reporting and the medallion data architecture that underpins it * Translate technical capability into business outcomes and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. What You'll Bring * Bachelor's degree with Honours in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related analytical field * 8–10 years of progressive experience in data engineering, data analysis, or operations analytics, including experience leading a team * A data engineering background, with credibility to guide technical direction and act as a sounding board for senior engineers * Solid experience with budget management, contract/vendor negotiation, and financial reporting * Strong stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building credibility through consistent delivery * A track record of mentoring engineers/analysts and building team capability. What Derivco Offers * The chance to lead a high-visibility data engineering function at the heart of the business, with real influence over strategic direction * A dynamic, committed team, peer leadership group, and wider leadership team invested in your success * Genuine scope to grow your own capability applying AI in the technology space * A competitive, market-related remuneration package. Closing Date: 28 October 2026
The DevOps and Platform Engineer implements and maintains the hosting platform: the virtual machines and services that run the company's applications in Private Hosted Environments, and public cloud services where the business needs them. The role keeps that environment patched, secure, monitored, recoverable and well documented, and builds and maintains the automation (pipelines and infrastructure as code) that gets applications onto it reliably and repeatably. The role reports to the Platform and Engineering Manager, who sets the hosting standards and assists where needed. The engineer implements and maintains the environment to those standards and is the main hands-on owner of the platform day to day. Responsibilities Hosting Infrastructure * Implement, configure, operate and maintain the hosting virtual machines and services in Private Hosted Environments, to the standards set by the Platform and Engineering Manager. * Implement and maintain public cloud services on AWS and Azure where the business needs them, to the same standards. * Carry out routine maintenance, including patching, upgrades, certificate and credential renewals, and lifecycle management. * Provision and decommission development, test and production environments in a consistent, repeatable way. * Maintain an accurate inventory of hosted systems, environments and their dependencies. Automation and Delivery Pipelines * Build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines used by the development team. * Define infrastructure as code so environments can be rebuilt from source control rather than by hand. * Automate repetitive operational work and reduce manual steps in deployment and maintenance. * Support developers in deploying and running their applications correctly in each environment. Security and Hardening * Apply hardening baselines, network segmentation, and firewall and access rules across hosted environments. * Manage access to hosting environments on a least-privilege basis, review it regularly and remove it promptly when no longer needed. * Manage secrets, keys and certificates so that no credentials sit in code or repositories. * Run dependency, container image and configuration scanning in the pipelines, and act on the results with the Platform and Engineering Manager. * Remediate hosting-related security and risk findings assigned by the Platform and Engineering Manager within agreed timelines, and provide evidence of the fix for independent verification. Backup, Recovery and Resilience * Implement and operate backups for hosted systems, aligned to the agreed RPO/RTO and system classification. * Test restores on a regular schedule and record the results. * Maintain recovery runbooks and contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Monitoring and Incident Response * Implement monitoring, alerting and log collection for hosted systems, and keep alerts actionable. * Respond to hosting incidents, restore service, and document the root cause and follow-up actions. * Take part in out-of-hours support for hosted systems. Change Control * Raise hosting changes through the IT Operations change process and implement only approved changes. * Record what was changed, when and why, so changes can be traced and reversed. Cost Awareness * Right-size and tag resources, and flag unused or underused resources. * Provide the Platform and Engineering Manager with consumption data so spend can be tracked and motivated. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing * Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams and procedures so another team member can operate, restore and rebuild the environment in the engineer's absence. * Work with the Platform and Engineering Manager and the senior developers so that at least one other person can perform critical tasks such as restoring from backup, rotating credentials and deploying to production. Requirements * 5+ years in infrastructure, DevOps or hosting roles, running production systems. * Hands-on experience implementing and running virtual machines and services in privately hosted environments, including virtualisation platforms. * Working experience with AWS and Azure services, enough to implement and maintain them where needed. * Strong Linux server administration. * Containerisation experience with Docker and an orchestrator such as Docker Swarm or Kubernetes, including reverse proxies and load balancing. * Infrastructure as code experience (for example Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation or Ansible) and CI/CD pipeline experience. * Solid networking knowledge, including DNS, TLS, firewalls, VPNs and network segmentation. * Practical experience with backup, restore and disaster recovery, including having tested restores. * Experience with monitoring, logging and alerting tools. * Understanding of identity and access management, including least privilege, role-based access, SSO and OAuth. * Scripting ability in Bash, PowerShell or Python. * Clear written documentation, and the discipline to work to a standard set by someone else and show evidence of compliance. * Willingness to take part in out-of-hours support.
