Data Engineer

Abu Dhabi

Analog is building the connective tissue between people, cities, and technology: robots that operate in the field, live spatial intelligence, holographic experiences built off real-time data, an AI coach with memory. None of that works without a data platform strong enough to carry it. Right now, that platform is still being shaped, which means whoever joins as our senior data engineer isn't maintaining someone else's architecture, they're building the one everything else at Analog will run on. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR, AND WHY We need someone who's spent real time in backend systems at scale, not just data pipelines in isolation, but the kind of engineer who understands what happens when systems have to hold up under real load and real consequences. We're past the point where "good enough" data infrastructure works. As more of Analog's products go live and start generating real-time data (from deployed robots, live events, athlete performance, spatial sensors), we need someone senior enough to build a platform that can take that on without falling over. WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON - Designing and building the core data infrastructure that feeds Analog's products: ingestion, transformation, storage, and the pipelines connecting all of it - Making real architectural calls on how we handle data at scale, not just executing someone else's spec - Building for reliability and performance from day one, since this platform will sit underneath products already live with real users, governments, and enterprise partners - Working directly with the engineers building Hive, RaaS, and our other product lines to understand what they actually need from the data layer, and building it with them, not for them WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT There's no legacy system to maintain here and no ten-layer org chart to get a decision through. Engineering at Analog is flat: no tech leads, no middle management, just you and the other engineers building this. If you see a better way to structure the platform, you build it, you don't pitch it up a chain and wait. And unlike most data engineering roles, the data you're working with isn't abstract, it's coming off physical robots on-site, live venues, and athletes in real time. SKILLS WE NEED - Deep backend engineering experience in high-scale, production systems, not just analytics or reporting pipelines - Strong hands-on experience with distributed data processing (e.g. Spark) and workflow orchestration (e.g. Airflow) - Real experience designing data architecture from scratch: schema design, storage tradeoffs, ingestion at scale, not just working within an existing setup - Solid grounding in cloud data infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and the operational side of running it (cost, performance, reliability) - Comfortable owning ambiguity: this is an early platform, not a mature one with a playbook already written Nice to have: experience with modern lakehouse tooling (dbt, Iceberg or similar), or exposure to real-time/streaming data specifically. WHAT WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR This isn't a fit for someone who wants a fully mapped-out roadmap handed to them, or who needs layers of process and sign-off to move. If you want to build data infrastructure for physical, real-world systems and make real calls on how it's built, this is that. If you'd rather maintain something that already exists, this probably isn't it.

Senior Backend Engineer

Abu Dhabi

Analog is building the connective tissue between humans, cities, and technology, out of a single office in Abu Dhabi. Almost everything we build only works if data can move cleanly between a big cloud backend and something physical out in the world: a robot, a sensor, a device at the edge, often over flaky networks and without the luxury of a clean, always-on connection. We need someone who's actually solved that problem before, not just read about it. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR, AND WHY We're scaling fast, and we need someone who can own the hard architectural calls at the cloud-to-edge boundary without needing a large org around them to do it. You've built and run large-scale, in-production backend systems, you've made the real tradeoff decisions yourself (not just implemented someone else's design), and you can look at an ambiguous, half-defined problem and figure out what actually matters first. We're flat: no layers between you and the decision, no one to hand the hard problem up to. That's exactly why we need someone senior here, not less senior, there's no safety net of process to catch a bad call. WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON - Architecting backend systems that move data reliably between our cloud systems and edge/device environments, across multiple network protocols, with real failure tolerance baked in - Making the core design calls on containerization and cloud-to-edge deployment patterns for systems that have to keep working when the network doesn't - Partnering directly with the engineers building the physical and product side to figure out what the backend architecture actually needs to support, often before the requirements are fully written down - Diagnosing and fixing hard, systemic production issues (latency, dropped connections, data consistency across unreliable links), not just patching symptoms - Raising the technical bar for the rest of the backend team as we scale, through the work itself, not through a title WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT Most senior backend roles let you stay inside a clean, fully-online world. This one doesn't. The systems you design have to keep working when they're talking to something physical and real, not just another well-behaved service in the same data center, and you'll be the one making that call, with no layer of review standing between your decision and production. You'll work directly with the engineers and teams building the physical side of this, and your architectural decisions will show up in something you can walk over and watch work. SKILLS WE NEED - 7+ years of backend experience, including real ownership of large-scale, in-production systems end to end - Deep, hands-on experience in Java, Python, or Kotlin or others (fluent in at least two, able to reason across all three). - Proven track record of driving system design and architecture decisions yourself, including the tradeoffs and the pushback, not just executing someone else's design - Real experience with cloud services and edge compute, and with moving data reliably across multiple network protocols - Strong experience with containerized development and cloud-to-edge deployment patterns specifically - Comfortable operating with ambiguity and making the call without a large team or a fixed process to lean on WHAT WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR If you've mostly operated inside a large org with a clear path to escalate hard decisions, this will feel like missing scaffolding, here, you're the escalation. If your architecture experience is mostly advisory, reviewing other people's designs rather than making the call and living with it, that's a different role than this one. And if you're looking for a remote, async setup, we're an in-person team by choice, and that's part of how we move this fast.

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Robotics

Abu DhabiFrom $10/yr

Analog builds world models and robotics. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design of our ground robots and manipulators, from structure and drivetrain through actuation, tolerance and the parts that have to survive a thousand deployments. You will work alongside electrical, firmware, controls and software engineers to take platforms from first sketch to machines that perform reliably in the real world. Responsibilities Mechanical Architecture and Design - Own the mechanical architecture of mobile robot platforms and robotic arms, covering chassis, drivetrain, joints, end effectors and enclosures. - Design precision mechanisms and load bearing structures in CAD, balancing stiffness, mass, backlash, serviceability and cost. - Hold the mass, inertia and packaging budgets for each platform and defend them as requirements change. - Translate motion requirements into joint layouts, reach envelopes, payload capability and actuator selection. Actuation and Drivetrain - Select and integrate motors, gearboxes, harmonic drives, belts, ball screws, bearings and brakes to meet torque, speed and stiffness targets. - Size drivetrains against real duty cycles rather than peak numbers, and validate against measured load data. - Design compliant and force controlled mechanisms for systems that have to touch the world safely. - Solve cable routing, slip ring and harness challenges for articulated joints that flex through millions of cycles. Analysis and Validation - Run FEA on structures and FMEA on mechanisms, and use the results to change the design rather than to justify it. - Model thermal paths for motors, drives and compute, and design cooling that holds up in high ambient conditions. - Build and instrument test rigs for life, fatigue, shock, vibration, ingress and accuracy, then run them to failure. - Own the root cause loop on mechanical failures found in the lab or the field and close it with a design change. Prototyping and Manufacturing - Move quickly from sketch to working prototype using in house machining, 3D printing and rapid fabrication. - Design for manufacture across CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting and composites, choosing the right process for the volume. - Produce complete drawing packages with GD&T, tolerance stack ups, fit and finish specifications, BOMs and assembly procedures. - Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers on quoting, first article inspection, qualification and yield. Collaboration and Leadership - Partner with electrical, firmware, controls and industrial design so the mechanical design serves the whole robot rather than its own subsystem. - Set mechanical design standards, CAD and PDM practice, and documentation quality for the robotics hardware team. - Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews and hands on build and test work. - Design for the field: serviceability, spares, tooling, maintenance intervals and technician friendly assemblies. Qualifications - 6 to 10 years designing mechanical systems for robotics, automotive, aerospace, consumer hardware or industrial automation. - Proven ownership of mechanisms taken from concept through prototype, qualification and volume production. - Strong grounding in machine design fundamentals: stress, fatigue, kinematics, bearing and gear selection, and tolerance analysis. - Expert CAD capability in SolidWorks, NX, Creo, Onshape or equivalent, with disciplined use of PDM and revision control. - Practical FEA experience and the judgement to know when a hand calculation is the better answer. - Fluency in GD&T and tolerance stack ups, with a track record of drawings that shops can build from without questions. - Deep hands on ability in the lab and shop: assembly, machining, fixturing, instrumentation and test. - Experience designing for environmental robustness including ingress protection, dust, heat, vibration and repeated transport. - Clear technical writing and comfort in a fast moving environment where hardware changes weekly. - Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics or equivalent demonstrated experience. Nice to Have - Experience with humanoid, legged or manipulator platforms. - Background in high cycle life mechanisms or show critical hardware. - Familiarity with ROS 2 and robot system integration. - Exposure to machinery safety standards such as ISO 13849 or ISO 10218. - Scripting ability in Python or MATLAB for analysis and test automation. About Analog Analog builds world models and robotics, technology that blurs the line between the physical and the imagined. Our robotics team designs and deploys machines that operate in the real world, where reliability is not negotiable. You will work alongside engineers, artists and researchers who hold hardware to the same standard as the experience it serves. This is a full time, on site role based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
