Your Mission This is a company built for growth. When you join exmox, you're stepping onto a global, highly competitive playing field, solving real problems in environments that push you beyond your comfort zone. We move fast, cut the noise, and focus on what actually matters, because in our industry, speed wins. With 50M+ platform downloads, we’re rapidly scaling one of the most exciting innovations in mobile gaming: a rewarded user engagement and acquisition platform that helps players discover, and engage with games they enjoy - creating lasting value for both players and gaming studios. As Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer (f/m/x), You’ll report to the Platform Engineering Manager in a Platform team of four, responsible for everything that runs our adtech solution, from developer experience and CI/CD to cloud infrastructure, incident response, and production reliability. Everyone on the team owns decisions and drives improvements, working proactively with developers, data engineers, and other stakeholders to build more resilient infrastructure as we go. At exmox, we're embracing AI as part of how we work, not just what we build. We use AI tools to work smarter, cut down on repetitive tasks and spend our time where it actually moves the needle. If that mindset speaks to you, you'll fit right in. If you're excited by complex systems, high traffic, data-driven decisions, and the chance to grow by solving challenging problems, we want to hear from you. What You’ll Own * Core stack: Work hands-on with AWS (multi-account, multi-region), Terraform, EKS (Kubernetes), complex GitLab CI pipelines, Helm, RDS, S3, kafka, RabbitMQ, Lambda, and Python, plus observability tools like Prometheus, Loki, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry. * Reliability: Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems and apply SRE principles to drive root cause analysis, long-term fixes, and platform-wide reliability improvements. * Backup and disaster recovery: Design and implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies for both stateless and stateful services. * Platform design: Collaborate with engineers, stakeholders, and DevOps teammates to design, evolve, and maintain a scalable and secure cloud platform. * Developer experience: Continuously improve tooling, automation, and operational workflows to reduce friction, enhance developer experience, and enable faster, safer shipping. * Knowledge sharing: Stay current with the evolving DevOps and cloud-native ecosystem, not just to grow your own skill set, but to help elevate the team's knowledge, challenge assumptions, and introduce better ways of working. What You Bring * Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles. * AWS at scale: You're confident in managing AWS at scale, including IAM, networking, and security best practices, and you know how to balance cost, performance, and simplicity. * Infrastructure as Code: You're fluent in IaC (preferably Terraform or similar) and use it to build clean, modular, and scalable infrastructure. * Kubernetes and CI/CD: You have solid experience managing Kubernetes (we use EKS) in production, with a strong grasp of workload security and day-2 operations, and you're comfortable building modern CI/CD pipelines with tools like GitLab CI or ArgoCD, with real care for developer experience. * Automation: You're proficient in Python, Go, or Bash for automation, tooling, and optimizing engineering workflows. * Observability and incidents: You have hands-on experience with observability tooling, preferably Datadog in production along with Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or Loki. You apply SLIs/SLOs to guide operational decisions, stay calm during incidents, and know when to roll back or escalate. * Communication and curiosity: You communicate clearly, write good docs, and support your decisions with reasoning. You enjoy learning, questioning the status quo, and improving the platform for everyone around you. * AI and agentic workflows: You integrate AI tools directly into core engineering tasks rather than relying only on code suggestions leveraging them to manage incident alerts, refine infra setup, or automate operational runbooks. You grasp how to equip agents with proper context, tooling, and safe boundaries, consistently seeking new opportunities to drive efficiency. How We Win * Speed is the feature. Speed beats rocket science. We move fast, test fast, and multiply our pace with AI, because action creates information and small wins compound. A fast failure is a lesson we learn from, a slow one is a problem we can't afford. * Focus on the essential. Done is better than perfect. We stay focused on what actually moves us forward and protect people's time from anything that doesn't. We're direct in how we communicate too, no rambling, no unnecessary detail. * See it. Own it. Solve it. The first to see it is best placed to fix it. We're not a place for comfort, we're a place for doers. "Not my job" isn't in our vocabulary, if you spot something, you help make sure it gets solved. * Respect others. Trust multiplies. Respect is non-negotiable. We disagree with ideas, never with people. Trust here is built the same way it is anywhere, through consistency, a thank you, a moment of listening, and owning your mistakes. * Perks that help you focus on what matters. Transport subsidy, learning budget, wellness and gym, workation, bi-weekly team lunches, and more. The perks are great, but the real reason people join and stay is the challenge, the ownership, and the drive to win together. Please note: this is not a remote only position, we offer you a flexible hybrid model here in Hamburg, Germany - working from home on Mondays \& Fridays, coming to the office on Tuesday, Wednesday \& Thursday! About Us At exmox, we are building the next European tech challenger in the user acquisition space. The DevOps and Platform Engineer implements and maintains the hosting platform: the virtual machines and services that run the company's applications in Private Hosted Environments, and public cloud services where the business needs them. The role keeps that environment patched, secure, monitored, recoverable and well documented, and builds and maintains the automation (pipelines and infrastructure as code) that gets applications onto it reliably and repeatably. The role reports to the Platform and Engineering Manager, who sets the hosting standards and assists where needed. The engineer implements and maintains the environment to those standards and is the main hands-on owner of the platform day to day. Responsibilities Hosting Infrastructure * Implement, configure, operate and maintain the hosting virtual machines and services in Private Hosted Environments, to the standards set by the Platform and Engineering Manager. * Implement and maintain public cloud services on AWS and Azure where the business needs them, to the same standards. * Carry out routine maintenance, including patching, upgrades, certificate and credential renewals, and lifecycle management. * Provision and decommission development, test and production environments in a consistent, repeatable way. * Maintain an accurate inventory of hosted systems, environments and their dependencies. Automation and Delivery Pipelines * Build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines used by the development team. * Define infrastructure as code so environments can be rebuilt from source control rather than by hand. * Automate repetitive operational work and reduce manual steps in deployment and maintenance. * Support developers in deploying and running their applications correctly in each environment. Security and Hardening * Apply hardening baselines, network segmentation, and firewall and access rules across hosted environments. * Manage access to hosting environments on a least-privilege basis, review it regularly and remove it promptly when no longer needed. * Manage secrets, keys and certificates so that no credentials sit in code or repositories. * Run dependency, container image and configuration scanning in the pipelines, and act on the results with the Platform and Engineering Manager. * Remediate hosting-related security and risk findings assigned by the Platform and Engineering Manager within agreed timelines, and provide evidence of the fix for independent verification. Backup, Recovery and Resilience * Implement and operate backups for hosted systems, aligned to the agreed RPO/RTO and system classification. * Test restores on a regular schedule and record the results. * Maintain recovery runbooks and contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Monitoring and Incident Response * Implement monitoring, alerting and log collection for hosted systems, and keep alerts actionable. * Respond to hosting incidents, restore service, and document the root cause and follow-up actions. * Take part in out-of-hours support for hosted systems. Change Control * Raise hosting changes through the IT Operations change process and implement only approved changes. * Record what was changed, when and why, so changes can be traced and reversed. Cost Awareness * Right-size and tag resources, and flag unused or underused resources. * Provide the Platform and Engineering Manager with consumption data so spend can be tracked and motivated. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing * Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams and procedures so another team member can operate, restore and rebuild the environment in the engineer's absence. * Work with the Platform and Engineering Manager and the senior developers so that at least one other person can perform critical tasks such as restoring from backup, rotating credentials and deploying to production. Requirements * 5+ years in infrastructure, DevOps or hosting roles, running production systems. * Hands-on experience implementing and running virtual machines and services in privately hosted environments, including virtualisation platforms. * Working experience with AWS and Azure services, enough to implement and maintain them where needed. * Strong Linux server administration. * Containerisation experience with Docker and an orchestrator such as Docker Swarm or Kubernetes, including reverse proxies and load balancing. * Infrastructure as code experience (for example Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation or Ansible) and CI/CD pipeline experience. * Solid networking knowledge, including DNS, TLS, firewalls, VPNs and network segmentation. * Practical experience with backup, restore and disaster recovery, including having tested restores. * Experience with monitoring, logging and alerting tools. * Understanding of identity and access management, including least privilege, role-based access, SSO and OAuth. * Scripting ability in Bash, PowerShell or Python. * Clear written documentation, and the discipline to work to a standard set by someone else and show evidence of compliance. * Willingness to take part in out-of-hours support.
