Software Engineering Manager

Latitude ITSydney, New South Wales, Australia

Are you an experienced software engineering leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, driving delivery and raising engineering standards? We're partnering with a leading technology organisation in the financial services sector to find an Engineering Manager to take ownership of a multidisciplinary team working across software engineering and financial modelling. This is an opportunity to step into a role where people leadership, delivery and technical judgement are equally important. You'll work closely with Product and Engineering stakeholders to turn priorities into outcomes, support engineers to do their best work and ensure the team continues to build quality, maintainable software. The Opportunity You'll lead a team of software engineers and actuarial professionals, creating an environment where different disciplines work effectively together. You'll be responsible for team performance, delivery commitments and engineering quality, balancing immediate priorities with the long-term health of the technology. This isn't a role that requires you to spend your days coding. Instead, you'll bring the technical credibility to guide engineering decisions, challenge ideas constructively and help the team deliver consistently. What You'll Be Doing * Lead and develop the team: Set clear expectations, coach engineers, provide feedback and build capability across the team. * Own engineering delivery: Translate product priorities into achievable plans, manage capacity and dependencies, and address delivery risks before they become blockers. * Drive cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Actuarial and Design stakeholders to resolve competing priorities, facilitate discussions and drive decisions. * Champion engineering excellence: Promote high standards across software design, testing, code reviews, maintainability and development practices. * Provide technical direction: Guide engineering decisions, challenge proposed solutions and help the team balance delivery speed with long-term quality. * Improve ways of working: Strengthen Agile delivery practices, team effectiveness and collaboration across disciplines. * Support sustainable engineering: Ensure technical debt, maintenance needs and longer-term engineering improvements remain visible alongside product priorities. What We're Looking For * Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, Engineering Team Lead or Senior Technical Lead with meaningful people leadership responsibilities. * A strong software engineering background, ideally having progressed from a hands-on development role into leadership. * Demonstrated experience owning team delivery, managing dependencies and navigating changing priorities. * Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bring technical and non-technical teams together and drive decisions. * A sound understanding of modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, code reviews, software design and maintainable code. * Experience working in Agile engineering environments and supporting continuous improvement. * The technical credibility to guide engineers and assess engineering quality without needing to code full-time. Experience with C++, Python or varied technology environments would be advantageous. Email: Derek.mcormack@latitudeit.com.au

Commonwealth BankSydney, New South Wales, Australia

From $15/yr

Do work that matters : As a Senior Software Engineer in Unloan’s Platform Team , you’ll be a software engineer first , designing, building and owning production software end to end. You’ll work across the full stack, building applications, APIs, integrations and automation using technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js and Python, while taking what you build all the way through testing, deployment and production support. You’ll solve complex engineering problems, integrate distributed systems and use AI-assisted development to create smarter, more automated ways of working. Alongside application engineering, you’ll also support the platform services your software depends on, giving you exposure across cloud, containers, Linux and modern delivery tooling. What makes this role exciting is the breadth of problems you’ll get to solve. You might build an AI-powered workflow one day, integrate engineering and security systems the next, then dive into a production issue across application code, APIs or Linux-based platform services. We’re also AI-native in how we engineer. We don’t just use AI to write code, review changes and solve problems faster, we build agents and automated workflows ourselves. Curiosity and experimentation are expected, as is the ability to dive into unfamiliar systems, understand how they really work and challenge existing assumptions. You’ll help us push what’s possible within a banking control environment, building software that makes engineering safer, faster and increasingly autonomous. We’re interested in hearing from people who: * Build production software using TypeScript (essential) and or Nodejs, Python, or Go. * Have strong engineering background and remain hands-on with production code. * Are a full-stack engineer who can work across front-end, back-end, APIs, services and platform integrations. * Take full-cycle, end-to-end ownership, from design and development through deployment, production support and continuous improvement. * Bring strong Linux experience, including troubleshooting applications, services and production environments. * Use AI-assisted development confidently and can build, review, test and safely productionise AI-powered agents and workflows. * Can connect complex systems using APIs, events, queues and distributed integration patterns. * Excel at debugging complex production issues across application, network and platform layers, while automating repetitive operational work. * Bring experience across technologies (but not limited too) such as Azure, GitHub Actions, containers, Terraform/Bicep, observability, networking and security automation.
