Software Engineer

BLUE TOWN LIMITEDBirmingham, England, UK

From $32,000/yr

Job Title: Software Engineer Location: Birmingham / Hybrid Salary: £32,000 - £45,000 per annum Position: Permanent, full-time About The Company: The Company is a long-established web and app development agency based in the Jewellery Quarter, specialising in AI integration, SaaS products, apps and portals. Job Role: This is a hands-on, mid-level Software Engineer role with responsibility for delivering complete features and projects. You will work independently with light oversight from a Lead Engineer, delivering projects with a moderate level of technical risk or substantial parts of larger projects. You will own your work from the initial ticket through to a working, supportable feature in production. You will make technical decisions within your area of responsibility and judge when to seek a second opinion. You will raise higher-risk and architecture-level decisions with your lead early, bringing options and a recommendation. Your lead will support you with project-level technical risk. The role has no people-management responsibilities. You are encouraged to support junior engineers informally, while remaining focused on the quality, reliability and clarity of your own work. Your responsibilities * Deliver features that are working, tested, documented and in use. Check for defects or unexpected behaviour after delivery and follow through without needing reminders. * Make technical decisions that balance maintainability, security, performance and the client's needs. Understand which decisions you can make, which need your lead's input and which require further escalation. * Identify risks and trade-offs early. Explain the current position, the impact on the project, what is already handled and what remains unresolved. Bring a proposed course of action so your lead can confirm, adjust or step in, and raise problems while there is still time to act. * Build full-stack web and mobile applications, typically involving React Native, SQL-backed APIs and AWS hosting. Be comfortable working in the framework or language each project requires. * Write clean, tested, well-structured code that follows team standards. Work collaboratively through Git, pull requests and CI/CD pipelines. * Use AI-assisted tools to improve speed and quality. Review and validate their output, taking responsibility for the software you deliver. * Keep your lead and project manager informed about progress, implications, resolved and outstanding issues, and any support or decisions you need. Explain technical choices clearly to project managers and, where needed, clients. * Document decisions, context and operational knowledge so another engineer can pick up your work without relying on your memory. * Identify recurring problems and suggest changes that prevent them. Put practical improvements in place within your area, such as checklists, clearer standards, tests, automation or better ticket templates. * Contribute to better tickets, estimates, refinement and delivery flow. Apply lessons from retrospectives to your work. * Keep clear ownership, a dated next step, any required decision or escalation, and a backup plan for the work you own. Resolve issues affecting your delivery or make clear who needs to take responsibility. * Explain the trade-offs you chose as well as the constraints you faced when reporting on your work. Experience and capabilities You will need: * Commercial programming experience consistent with a mid-level engineer, with evidence of delivering features or parts of projects from start to finish. * Solid capability in an object-oriented back-end language, with PHP/Laravel strongly preferred, and a modern front-end framework such as React or React Native. TypeScript is desirable. * Good working knowledge of SQL and relational database design, and an understanding of MVC and RESTful API principles. * Familiarity with Git-based team workflows, code review, automated testing and CI/CD. * The ability to solve complex problems and become effective quickly with unfamiliar technologies. * Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical colleagues. * Evidence of working independently, making informed decisions within your responsibilities, and knowing when and how to seek support. * A practical, curious approach to new tools and AI-assisted development, with a willingness to experiment and assess their value through evidence and measurable results. Additional Information: We value a diverse workforce and believe that people from different backgrounds can bring fresh ideas, thinking and approaches to the way we work. We welcome everyone from everywhere to come and join our team. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Job Description About You You are an engineer who thinks about quality as a property of systems, not a separate testing activity. Your background may be in software development, DevOps, platform engineering, or quality engineering. You enjoy building tools, frameworks, and workflows that help engineering teams prevent failures, detect problems early, and understand what went wrong. You combine hands-on programming skills with solid quality engineering practices. You think about testability, failure modes, reliable automation, and useful feedback, not just the number of tests executed. You are comfortable exploring unfamiliar systems, working across teams, and turning a defined problem into a maintainable engineering solution. If that’s YOU – then this is the perfect role for you! Your Responsibilities As our new Software Engineer, Quality Engineering , you will build and improve the frameworks, tooling, and automation that enable teams to continuously validate, observe, and improve their systems. You will work across engineering teams, focusing on quality challenges where shared tooling, automation, and improved development workflows can reduce recurring problems and strengthen feedback loops. You will be part of our global Technology division and report to the Global Head of Quality Engineering, based in Berlin, Germany. In this role you will: * Design, build, and maintain reusable quality engineering frameworks, tools, and libraries that engineering teams can integrate into their development workflows. * Integrate automated checks and actionable quality feedback into CI/CD pipelines, helping teams detect failures early and diagnose them efficiently. * Improve test infrastructure and execution workflows, including environment setup, configuration, dependencies, and troubleshooting. * Investigate failures across components and integrations, translating recurring problems into automated checks, guardrails, or improvements to system testability. * Work with engineering, DevOps, and data teams to make quality practices practical, maintainable, and easy to adopt. * Enable delivery teams to own and maintain their checks, through shared tooling, examples, documentation, and hands-on collaboration. * Evaluate whether the implemented mechanisms provide reliable, useful feedback, and improve them based on observed failures and team needs. Qualifications You Offer * Strong programming skills in a general-purpose language and experience building maintainable software. Python experience is a plus. * Hands-on experience developing or extending engineering tooling, automation frameworks, developer workflows, or shared infrastructure. * Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and integrating automation into software delivery. * Practical understanding of quality engineering practices, including risk-based validation, test architecture, unit, integration and contract testing, and the trade-offs between different layers of checks. * Ability to investigate failures across application code, configuration, environments, and component interfaces. * A focus on maintainability, clear diagnostics, and usability when building tools for other engineers. * Strong collaboration skills and professional proficiency in English. It would be a plus, if you have: * Familiarity with containers, cloud environments, or infrastructure as code. * Experience with GitLab CI/CD, AWS, or comparable technologies. * Experience with distributed or data-intensive systems. * SQL skills or familiarity with data pipelines, Databricks, data validation, or data-quality tooling. * Experience applying AI-assisted engineering tools or validating AI-generated outputs. Additional Information Please note that we will only consider candidates with a valid work permit. The salary range for this role is EUR 56,700–69,300

Build internal applications, data workflows, system integrations, APIs, automation and engineering tools based on each project’s needs. Add automated tests, logging, metrics, error handling and basic operational guidance to the software you deliver. Move between projects after delivering agreed outcomes, leaving software tested, documented, maintainable and ready for its long-term owner. Improve code quality, remove small areas of technical debt, contribute to code reviews, and reuse shared platforms and patterns where they fit. Learn several project domains quickly, deliver your first end-to-end features, and establish a reliable routine for testing, documentation and handover. Take on broader and less clearly defined projects, help standardize how internal software is built, secured and operated, and become a trusted partner for teams across the company. Who You Are You can independently own well-scoped work, with support available for broader architecture or highly unclear decisions. Strong software engineering fundamentals, including readable code, data structures, debugging, automated testing, version control and code review, with evidence of delivered working software. Ability to build and maintain software in a modern typed language such as TypeScript or JavaScript. Strong experience with a similar language is also relevant. Experience building web applications with a component-based frontend framework such as React, Vue or Angular. Understanding of relational databases and SQL, including schemas, migrations, permissions and data modeling. Experience integrating software through REST APIs, events, scheduled jobs or similar communication patterns. Understanding of authentication, authorization, role-based access and secure data handling. Familiarity with CI/CD, package management, basic infrastructure configuration and automated build, test and deployment workflows. Ability to use tests, logs, metrics and traces to find problems and confirm that software works as expected. Ability to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly for learning, prototyping, testing, documentation and delivery, reviewing output to the same quality and security standard as other work. Ability to learn new languages, frameworks, systems and technical domains, and a willingness to move between projects after completing agreed work. Ability to turn the needs of non-software specialists into clear technical requirements and to explain software decisions in simple language. Clear communication: you raise risks and blockers early, make realistic commitments, and take full ownership of handover, leaving no undocumented code. Understanding of maintainability, documentation, security, access control and operational readiness. Nice-to-haves Experience with TypeScript, React, SQL, PostgreSQL, serverless functions or Azure services. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, including serverless or managed application platforms. JobgetherGermany

$100 - $200/yr

Accountabilities In this role, you will assess AI-generated coding interactions from the perspective of an experienced software engineer, focusing on technical judgment, clarity, usefulness, and the quality of the overall developer experience. Evaluate AI-generated coding interactions from beginning to end, including responses, explanations, and recommendations. Assess whether outputs are useful, broadly correct, and consistent with the judgment and practices of a strong software engineer. Review the quality of explanations and reasoning rather than focusing exclusively on code syntax or implementation details. Distinguish between different levels of response quality using consistent evaluation criteria. Provide clear, detailed, and constructive written feedback explaining what worked, what did not, and what felt inaccurate, misleading, or ineffective. Evaluate whether AI agents guide developers effectively, build trust, and provide meaningful assistance rather than simply generating output. Help define and refine quality standards for interactions with AI coding tools such as OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor. Record short video explanations to communicate evaluation findings and provide additional context. Requirements The ideal candidate is a senior software engineering professional with extensive experience, strong technical judgment, and a deep understanding of modern AI-assisted development workflows. You should be comfortable evaluating technical work critically, making subjective but well-reasoned assessments, and communicating your conclusions clearly. Senior, Staff, or Principal-level software engineer, or equivalent professional experience. Strong background in TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python. Hands-on experience using at least one of the following tools: OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor. Deep familiarity with modern AI-assisted software development workflows. Ability to evaluate code and technical responses without necessarily executing the code or reviewing every line. Strong written and spoken English proficiency (B2 level or above), as detailed written feedback and short recorded video explanations are required. Confidence in providing direct, thoughtful, and opinionated feedback. High standards for software engineering quality and a strong understanding of what makes technical guidance genuinely useful. Ability to assess engineering judgment, communication quality, and developer experience beyond basic technical correctness. Nice to have: Previous experience with prompt design, AI evaluation, or model assessment workflows. Experience mentoring senior engineers or establishing engineering standards and best practices. Benefits Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $100 to $200, depending on experience and location. Fully remote engagement, with worldwide opportunities subject to regional eligibility. Flexible workload of approximately 10–20 hours per week. Ongoing collaboration, with individual projects typically lasting from two weeks to several months. Opportunities to participate in additional projects based on evaluation performance. Flexible working hours. Streamlined selection process consisting of one take-home evaluation exercise and a recorded video walkthrough, with no interview required. Opportunity to contribute to the development and evaluation of cutting-edge AI coding tools. Contract-based engagement, with projects offered on an ongoing basis. Potential to start as soon as the evaluation exercise is successfully completed and a project position becomes available. How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements. $12 - $20/yr

Amplitude is the leading AI analytics platform, helping over 4,700 customers—including Atlassian, Burger King, NBCUniversal, and Square—build better products and digital experiences. With powerful AI Agents embedded across our platform, teams can analyze, test, and optimize user experiences faster than ever. Ranked #1 across multiple categories in G2’s Winter 2026 Report, Amplitude is the best-in-class solution for product, data, and marketing teams. Learn more at amplitude.com http://amplitude.com. As an organization, we deliver for our customers by living our values. We operate from a place of humility, take ownership of problems and successes, approach challenges with a growth mindset, and put our customers at the center of everything we do. ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM Every AI insight, every experiment, every cohort at Amplitude starts with a query. Our in-house OLAP engine, Nova, processes trillions of events in real time — turning raw behavioral data into fast, trustworthy answers that power decisions for thousands of product teams worldwide. We’re entering a world where AI agents don’t just assist product teams — they ship features, run experiments, and make prioritization calls autonomously. What makes that possible is agents’ ability to verify their work against real product data continuously. That makes Nova the critical infrastructure in the loop, and as non-stop agents become the main source of queries, the demand on Nova’s throughput, correctness, and operational rigor grows dramatically. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer who wants to go deep on both the engine internals and the infrastructure underneath it. You’ll work across the full stack of a modern OLAP system — query planning and execution, columnar storage and encoding, distributed compute, caching, and cloud infrastructure — while driving meaningful improvements to performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability at scale. You’ll influence technical direction through your work, your design reviews, and your mentorship of other engineers on a team of ~10. This role is ideal for someone who finds real satisfaction in making a complex distributed system faster, cheaper, and more reliable — and who wants to do that work on a system that directly powers the product experience for thousands of customers. WHAT YOU’LL DO Build and evolve core query engine infrastructure - Work across Nova's query execution engine and distributed compute layer: query planning, columnar storage formats, encoding and compression, caching, and cluster-level resource management. - Design and implement new capabilities as Nova expands to support more warehouse-imported data types, such as metrics, profiles, and dimensions. - Design for high-throughput automated query workloads — as AI agents become a primary source of queries, ensure Nova’s architecture supports sustained, concurrent, and programmatic query patterns at scale. Drive cost and performance at scale - Own and execute projects that materially reduce infrastructure cost — compute, storage, network, and memory — while maintaining or improving latency and throughput. - Profile and optimize JVM performance: GC tuning, memory management, concurrency, and data layout decisions that compound at our scale. - Build guardrails and observability to catch expensive or pathological queries before they impact the system. Improve reliability and operational excellence - Strengthen Nova’s reliability posture: identify systemic failure modes, drive durable fixes, and raise the bar on how we detect and respond to production issues. - Participate in on-call rotation to root-cause incidents and turn one-off fixes into architectural improvements. - Contribute to capacity planning, safe rollout practices, and the operational tooling that keeps Nova healthy. Influence through technical leadership - Lead the design and execution of multi-month projects that improve Nova’s architecture, performance, or capabilities. - Contribute to technical direction through design docs, architecture discussions, and code reviews — helping the team make principled tradeoffs. - Mentor senior engineers on distributed systems thinking, production debugging, and system design. - Collaborate with Product, Middleware, Data Pipeline, and other engineering teams to ensure Nova’s capabilities translate into customer value. WHO YOU ARE You are an experienced systems engineer who: - Gets energy from working deep inside a complex distributed system — understanding how data flows through it, where the bottlenecks are, and how to make it meaningfully better. - Has built or significantly extended an OLAP engine, columnar database, query processor, or large-scale data processing system — not just operated one. - Thinks about cost, performance, and reliability as interconnected concerns, not separate workstreams. - Communicates clearly about technical tradeoffs and earns influence through the quality of your work and ideas, not through title. - Finds it natural to help other engineers level up — through pairing, design reviews, or just being the person who explains the “why” behind a system’s design. QUALIFICATIONS Requirements - 7+ years of industry experience in backend or infrastructure engineering, with depth in distributed data systems. - Hands-on experience building or extending analytical/OLAP systems — query engines, columnar storage, large-scale data processing frameworks, or equivalent. - Track record of driving significant cost optimization on cloud infrastructure at scale (compute, storage, network). - Strong computer science fundamentals: distributed systems (partitioning, replication, consistency, failover), data structures and algorithms, concurrency and multi-threading, performance optimization. - Production experience with modern cloud infrastructure — AWS (S3, DynamoDB, EC2), Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, Kubernetes, Terraform — or strong equivalents. - Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python. - Demonstrated technical influence beyond your immediate team: leading design discussions, driving cross-team alignment, mentoring engineers. Nice to Have - Experience with specific OLAP or query engine systems: Druid, ClickHouse, Presto/Trino, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar. - Deep JVM expertise — GC tuning, profiling, memory optimization at production scale. - Experience with columnar data formats and encodings (Arrow, Parquet, ORC, or custom formats). - Familiarity with product analytics, experimentation platforms, or event-driven data systems. - Contributions to open-source data infrastructure projects or published work in the data systems space. OUR VALUES: At Amplitude, our values guide how we show up for one another and for our customers: - Humility: We operate from a place of empathy and openness, seeking to understand many points of view. - Ownership: We take the initiative to solve problems that drive our shared company success. - Growth Mindset: We’re tenacious in the face of challenges and seek feedback in order to grow ourselves and others. - Customer Centricity: We put the customer at the center of everything we do and are deeply committed to their success. Senior Software Engineer

UCentricMelbourne, Victoria, Australia

$160,000 - $180,000/yr

Senior Software Engineer (Communications SaaS) Melbourne preferred | Australia-wide considered $160,000–$180,000 + super About the company We’re exclusively partnering with a growing Australian technology company building a production communications SaaS platform for the SME market. The platform brings together phone, SMS, email and web interactions around a single customer, helping businesses maintain context across multiple channels and deliver a more seamless customer experience. This is a growing product business with a small, senior team and direct access to technical and product leadership. The engineering environment is highly hands-on, customer-focused and built around strong technical ownership. About the role We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can take genuine ownership within an existing production platform. This is not a ticket-taking role. You’ll help understand the problem, shape the technical approach, make architecture and implementation decisions, and own what ultimately reaches production. The role involves working across an evolved production system where context matters. You’ll need to trace how the platform behaves today, understand hidden dependencies and assumptions, and make thoughtful changes without disrupting customers. Programmable telephony is a major part of the environment, so hands-on experience with Twilio, Telnyx or an equivalent communications platform will be prioritised. AI is also central to the way the team works. They are looking for someone who is already using AI-assisted development and coding agents as part of their day-to-day engineering workflow, while still applying strong independent judgement around architecture, code quality and production risk. Responsibilities Own the design, development and evolution of customer-facing production systems * Build and improve programmable telephony and messaging workflows * Maintain customer identity and conversation context across multiple communications channels * Design and integrate APIs and third-party services * Improve reliability, deployment safety and observability across the platform * Diagnose complex issues across application, integration and communications boundaries * Help simplify an existing architecture without disrupting customers or slowing product delivery * Use AI-assisted development tools extensively while reviewing, validating and taking ownership of the resulting output * Make pragmatic architecture and engineering decisions based on customer impact, technical risk and business priorities * Lead effectively with distributed and offshore engineering teams * Contribute directly to technical direction alongside senior product and technology leadership Your background and experience We’re looking for an experienced senior software engineer who is comfortable operating in complex production environments and taking ownership beyond just writing code. Ideally, you’ll bring: * Strong senior-level software engineering experience * Current and practical use of AI-assisted development and coding agents * Hands-on Twilio, Telnyx or comparable programmable telephony experience * Strong API and third-party integration experience * Experience building reliable, scalable customer-facing systems * Strong systems thinking and architecture capability * Experience debugging across multiple systems and integration boundaries * Understanding of retries, idempotency, failure handling and state management * The ability to understand and safely change unfamiliar or rapidly evolved production systems * High ownership of what you build, ship and operate * Experience collaborating effectively with offshore and distributed engineering teams * Clear technical communication and the ability to explain trade-offs Specific framework experience is less important than strong engineering judgement, systems thinking and the ability to quickly understand an existing production environment. Why this opportunity This is an opportunity to join a growing Australian technology business at a stage where your technical decisions will have visible impact. You’ll work directly with senior technical and product leaders, remain highly hands-on and have genuine influence over how the platform evolves. The role will suit someone who enjoys solving difficult systems problems, working with programmable communications technology and using modern AI development tools in a practical way. Most importantly, it will suit an engineer who cares about what happens after the code ships, whether the system is reliable, whether it scales, whether failures are understandable, and whether the customer experience remains seamless. The business is remote-first, with Melbourne preferred to enable closer collaboration with leadership. Strong candidates elsewhere in Australia will also be considered.
