Assistant Professor of Exercise Science We are now accepting applications for a qualified Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at Belmont University. Employment Type Faculty Internal Job Category Tenure Track (Faculty) Full-Time Department Exercise Science Hours N/A Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Position purpose: This is a full-time tenure-track, 10-month faculty appointment with responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, service, and church involvement/community endeavors. The faculty member will teach primarily in the Sports Medicine minor with additional support for the Exercise Science major. Job functions: Complete 24 workload hours, or equivalent, per academic year. Advise and mentor students in research and other class-related projects. Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach. Participate in departmental and university committee work. Engage in scholarly activity and professional development. Advise students in course selection and degree completion. Participate in a local church and the community. Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies. Manage online grading system. Timely submission of book orders, if textbooks required. Maintain regular office hours. Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software. Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading. Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Required Education An earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field is required. An Athletic Training Certification through the National Athletic Training Association or Physical Therapy License is also recommended. Required Experience A minimum of 2 years of university-level teaching experience in Exercise Science or a related field is preferred. Employment Type Staff Internal Job Category Exempt (Staff) Full-Time Department Administrative Staff Hours 37.5 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Position purpose: Prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes at Belmont University. Provide coverage for practices and athletic events for assigned sports and team. Essential Functions: 1. Oversee all aspects of the physical care of Belmont student-athletes on assigned team(s). Act as a liaison between physicians, specialists, school, coaches, athletes and their parents under the direction of a physician and only treat within their scope of expertise; work with physicians for direction of care, when needed. 2. Assist Director of Sports Medicine with the coverage of daily practices, treatments and preventative care; athletic training services for all athletic contests (home and away) and on the holistic wellbeing of Belmont's student athletes (i.e. Mental Health, nutrition, etc.) 3. Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in the management of the athletic training rooms, including but not limited to: ordering of equipment and supplies, inventory and maintenance of medical devices used with patient care (e-stim/US, Normatec); maintain a clean work environment; fitting and ordering of protective equipment, including pads, braces, etc 4. Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks and abiding by NCAA Guidelines for the safe participation in sports. Certify that all critical incident management tools are up to date, reviewed and followed. 5. Foster an environment of collaboration by working closely with the Elite Sports Medicine team and Belmont coaches, staff, campus partners and student-athletes. 6. Ensure accurate records are filed and proper documentation of injuries, medical history, insurance coverage, etc. Including but not limited to: filing of primary and secondary insurance, timely injury reporting into appropriate databases, NCAA pre-participation and sports physicals, etc. 7. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic databases and software. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding athletics. Knowledge in exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and therapeutic exercise. Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work. * Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Required Education Bachelor's and master's degree required. Other requirements include: certification as an Athletic Trainer through NATA BOC, certification in CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care, and licensure as an Athletic Trainer through the State of Tennessee. Required Experience 1-3 years required, 4-6 years preferred experience in athletic training, kinesiology, and/or exercise science.
