We are actively looking for a Development Manager / Technical Lead to join our IT team. As part of the IT Group, the Development Manager / Technical Lead is a highly experienced technical leader and working manager responsible for leading and empowering the development team to deliver high-quality software solutions that align with the firm's objectives. This role serves as the senior technical lead for the team, working alongside developers to guide architecture, solution design, development practices, and delivery approach, while personally contributing to solution design and development work. The position partners closely with the Business Analyst to translate stakeholder requirements into actionable technical plans, while helping the team strengthen quality, estimation, documentation, and delivery discipline. This role is expected to spend approximately 60% of its time on hands-on technical work and approximately 40% on team leadership, planning, coaching, and stakeholder management, subject to business needs. About this Role The Guidewire Data Tech Lead position requires an experienced professional with a strong track record delivering enterprise data and analytics solutions within the insurance sector. Overview As a Technical Lead Manager, you are an experienced software engineer with a strong background in technical leadership and software development. You act as both a team lead and a technical expert, guiding a group of talented software engineers in delivering high-quality software solutions while fostering an innovative and collaborative work environment. Responsibilities * Hiring, building and leading a small-to-medium sized teams of highly creative software professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment by providing clear direction, delegating tasks, and setting priorities. Ensure team alignment with project goals and deadlines. * Understanding and driving Lean, Systems Thinking software engineering principals * Establishing best practices for software engineering to ensure high-quality services that can be easily run in production * Collaborating with architects and other technology leaders to help provide technical direction to your team that ensures that design and architecture choices align with best practices, scalability, and performance needs. * Mentor team members, helping them grow their technical and professional skills. Provide regular feedback and performance reviews. * Address any conflicts or challenges within the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment. * Work closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other departments to define project scope, estimate time frames, and plan sprints. * Break down projects into manageable tasks and assign them to team members based on their skillsets, ensuring a balanced workload. Track the team's progress, adjusting priorities or timelines when necessary to ensure projects are delivered on time. * Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, such as product management, design, and operations. Ensure clear communication about requirements, timelines, and deliverables. * Participate in writing code, especially for complex or critical parts of the project. Technical Lead Managers balance coding with their leadership duties to stay engaged with the technical aspects of the project. * Building trust and rapport with your direct reports. Help team members set personal and professional development goals, offering opportunities for growth and learning, such as new projects, workshops, or mentorship to ensure that engineers feel that Rithum is a place they can learn and grow through their career. * Lead by example to help ensure that your team upholds company standards with a Client First and Say-Do ethos. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * 3+ years as Senior Software Engineer or higher * 2+ years with team-lead or other leadership experience * 3+ years' experience developing in Angular, Typescript, JavaScript or Node.js * Experience using AI Development tools like Cursor, Copilot * Proven leadership in high-impact projects, with a history of mentoring team members and developing innovative methods that drive departmental objectives * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team. * Practical, hands-on experience with modern programming languages * Hands-on experience with AWS technologies, especially EC2, ECS, AWS OpenSearch, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a closely related field * Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, or cloud platforms * 2+ years’ experience in creating data systems for feature stores or vector databases. * #Learn-it-all attitude to be able to dive in and understand unfamiliar systems and projects * Experience working with NoSQL databases * Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques for high scale systems * Experience working with development teams in multiple time zones * Experience with e-commerce, retail, online marketplaces, or digital advertising Travel Required Up to 10% Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.
