Referment is working with a global financial-services technology company offering a transaction payments platform and APIs covering embedded finance, payment accounts, FX, rapid payouts and physical and virtual card issuing. A regulated e-money institution operating in the UK and Europe, it is part of a wider financial-technology group and delivers API-driven payments infrastructure to corporate and fintech clients. You will join the technical operations team as a Senior DevOps Engineer, reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, and take a key role in the evolution of the cloud platform and payments infrastructure. The position offers genuine influence over engineering standards, cloud architecture and platform strategy across a business delivering API-driven payment and card solutions. The team has fully embraced AI-assisted engineering and wants people who will push that further rather than merely tolerate it. The Role * Own and evolve cloud infrastructure across production and non-production environments. * Integrate AI tooling into daily engineering workflows - code, infrastructure and incident response - as a default way of working. * Design and implement Infrastructure as Code standards and build scalable CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery. * Drive platform reliability, observability and operational excellence, implementing monitoring, logging and alerting frameworks for critical applications. * Lead incident response, root-cause analysis and platform improvements. * Ensure infrastructure meets security, governance and compliance requirements, and support business continuity, disaster recovery and high-availability initiatives. * Champion DevOps culture and mentor engineers on cloud, automation and DevOps practices. What We're Looking For * Genuine, demonstrated enthusiasm for AI-assisted engineering - daily use of tools like Claude Code, Copilot or equivalent as a core part of how you work. * Significant experience in a Senior DevOps, Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering role. * Deep expertise in public cloud infrastructure, strong Kubernetes and containerisation experience, and proven IaC with Terraform or similar. * Experience designing and maintaining enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines. * Strong understanding of networking, security and cloud architecture, with a track record of improving reliability and operational performance. Desirable * Experience with PCI-DSS, SOC2 or similar regulatory frameworks. * Background in fintech, payments, banking or other regulated industries, including card and payment infrastructure supporting rails such as Faster Payments, SEPA, SWIFT and ACH. * Experience with high-volume transaction platforms, event-driven architectures and API platforms. The technical environment spans AWS, Azure or GCP, Kubernetes or ECS, Terraform, GitHub Actions or similar CI tools, Linux, MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL, Python or Bash, and Prometheus/Grafana-style monitoring. This could suit a senior platform engineer from a payments or regulated fintech background who wants real ownership of a cloud platform and a team that has committed to AI-assisted engineering.
