Product Manager

ONIOxford, England, UK

From $10/yr

At ONI, we are driven by a profound mission: to propel scientific discovery and combat diseases by granting everyone the ability to visualize, comprehend, and share the intricate microscopic details of life. Our revolutionary Nanoimager and Aplo Platform stand at the forefront of advancing cellular studies on a molecular level, making substantial contributions to the evolution of scientific knowledge. We’re looking for a Product Manager to own our kits and workflows, including EV Profiler and LNP Profiler, now that the concept is proven. You’ll make sure sample preparation, fluid handling, imaging, analysis and reporting software work together as one system, and your responsibility is the complete customer experience, from sample to scientifically meaningful result. The job is making that system rock solid: hardening what’s already on the market, making sure it works the same way at every site, and getting more customers on it without support load growing at the same rate. The Role As part of the Product team, you’ll own the product management of our kits and end-to-end workflows, including the Discovery Kit, EV Profiler and LNP Profiler and their future revisions. You will ensure these work together with automated sample preparation and fluid handling, imaging, analysis and reporting software to deliver reliable, reproducible and intuitive solutions for our customers. The initial products have launched, and the work now is making them dependable, repeatable, and scalable for our customers. You’ll create clarity and momentum for the R\&D teams by understanding which problems matter, turning customer and market evidence into priorities, and removing barriers to delivering a coherent solution. You’ll grow adoption to routine use across many sites, including bioprocessing and QC settings where results must be reproducible and defensible, and you’ll work with Marketing on positioning and the product story as the portfolio evolves. You will play a critical role in bringing these quality improvements to the market and ensuring that current and future kits maintain their quality over time, and you’ll help define the roadmap for next iterations of existing and future kits and workflows. As a product manager, you’ll be the connective tissue between software, hardware, bioware, support, and the field, acting as the voice of the customer to help internal teams better understand our customers’ needs and problems. The role is ideal for a technically curious, commercially aware individual who loves getting hands-on with products, takes ownership of outcomes and thrives on complex, cross-functional challenges. You will work broadly across our platform and alongside US colleagues; the position is based in Oxford and involves occasional travel to customers and our US team (typically 10-20%). What you’ll do * Understand scientists and their complete workflows first-hand. Work with customers and field teams, study usage and support data, and synthesize their sometimes conflicting inputs into the problems worth solving. * Drive evidence-led product direction and priorities across our solutions with R\&D and commercial leaders, balancing customer outcomes, differentiation, adoption, reliability, margin and technical feasibility. * Own the roadmap for our kits (including the Discovery Kit and the EV and LNP Profiler kits) and workflows, balancing quality, reliability, usability and new features. * Identify and prioritize the right customer and market problems, document them as clear market requirements, product performance requirements and user stories, and give development teams the context they need to design the best end-to-end solution—from sample preparation in Aplo Flow, through acquisition in Aplo Scope, to analysis in CODI. * Own validation for each kit and workflow: define acceptance criteria, performance specifications and validation plans, including reference samples and reproducibility across instruments, operators and sites. Work with R\&D, who own development and verification. * Become a hands-on power user of the full integrated workflows, from the manual and automated sample preparation of kits, imaging, analysis and reporting, identifying points of friction in the overall user experience. * Drive coherence across our end-to-end solutions, ensuring kits, reagents, lab automation, instruments and software evolve together rather than as disconnected products. Champion reproducibility, usability and reliable results across the complete workflow. * Connect R\&D, operations, quality, service, field applications, sales, marketing and customers. Establish feedback loops, clear ownership and effective cross-team decisions across our teams in the US and the UK. * Own pricing and packaging for our kits and workflows, balancing customer value, competitiveness and margin targets. * Work with Marketing throughout a product's life to shape positioning, the value proposition and the product story as the portfolio evolves, not only at launch. * Lead launch and release planning with R\&D and Marketing: set readiness criteria, make go/no-go decisions, and coordinate documentation, release notes and training for each launch or revision. * Create and run webinars and internal training for the field application and sales teams on new products and revisions, and keep an accurate record of what each kit, instrument and software version can deliver. * Track post-launch performance, including adoption, kit reorders, time to first result, reproducibility, support burden, customer feedback and commercial results, and use it to set priorities. * Help investigate and reproduce difficult issues, equip support and field teams with workarounds and guidance, and bring well-evidenced problems to developers. Analyze tickets, logs and customer feedback to find recurring failure modes, and prioritize root-cause fixes into the roadmap. * Work with Quality and Operations on manufacturing transfer, life cycle support and end of life, so our kits and workflows maintain quality over time. * Maintain broad portfolio knowledge across all of ONI’s products and use cases, while maintaining primary focus on our integrated workflows. What you’ll bring * A life-science background, ideally EVs, LNPs, nanoparticle characterization, imaging or biophysics. Being able to speak the language of our customers is critical. An MSc/PhD or equivalent hands-on experience is a real plus. * Fluency across software, instruments, laboratory workflows and multidisciplinary R\&D; comfortable investigating issues hands-on and understanding how the system fits together. * Experience working with empowered, cross-functional development teams: knowing when to provide context, decide on a trade-off and leave the solution to specialists. * Product management (or product owner) experience in life-science tools or instrumentation, ideally taking something from first release to a scaled, supported product. * Experience planning and running launches with Marketing, R\&D and the field, from development through adoption. * Commercial and pricing judgement: You can weigh customer value, competitiveness and margin when setting price and packaging. * A quality mindset: You’re comfortable writing acceptance criteria and test plans, and you think about risk, reproducibility and traceability. Exposure to a quality system (ISO 9001 or 13485) is a plus. * Comfort with data: logs, tickets, precision and method-comparison numbers (CVs, site to site). Evidence sets priorities, not the loudest voice. * The ability to lead across software, hardware, bioware, support and field without owning any of them, and to prioritize when everything feels urgent. * Clear writing and organization skills. Requirements, release notes and docs that other people can act on. Nice to have * Super-resolution or single-molecule imaging experience (dSTORM, PALM, DNA-PAINT), or general microscopy experience (TIRF, widefield, confocal, spinning-disk). * Hands-on EV or LNP work in research, biopharma, gene therapy or drug delivery. * Laboratory automation, automated liquid handling, sample preparation, consumable kits, workflow integration, scientific software or data analysis. * Integrating instruments, software, consumables and automated lab workflows; exposure to verification, validation, quality systems or lifecycle support. * Commercialization, pricing, segmentation, product positioning or product marketing in technically sophisticated markets.
