Responsibilities: Ability to perform an aerobic activity for duration of a class, which may include, but not limited to, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, running, crawling, and kneeling. Ability to perform exercises specific to the assigned class. Educates class participants on correct form and alternative moves during the fitness routine. Ensure the safety and enjoyment for all in fitness classes. Attentively listens to members, answer questions, and engage in conversation before and after classes. Cleans and organizes studio space before/after each Group Fitness class, record class metrics, and time worked. Qualifications TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and three (3) years or more of related experience; Masters and one year of related experience. License/Certification (required): CPR Certification. Certification to teach 2 or more of the preferred exercise classes. Nationally accredited certification required in personal training and/or group fitness. Under the supervision of the Group Exercise Manager, the Group Exercise Instructor will oversee and support all assigned classes. In this role, you will collaborate with leadership and Exercise Physiologists to help clients achieve goals and improve their overall quality of life. Your ability to meet medical needs, problem-solve and identify avenues for improvement can make a difference in the lives of patients every day. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts between 5:30AM – 10:00PM. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Greet members and guests with a smile and deliver world-class service at all times. Arrive ten minutes ahead of time to prepare classroom and music. Screen class for new members and instruct newcomers on class content. Refer members with possible limitations (including injuries and/or medication being taken) to a fitness staff member, manager or physical therapist for further direction. Follow scheduled class format according to LifeStyles class descriptions within the designated class time. Provide class with professional presentation and instruction. Receive approval from Group Exercise Manager for choreography, music selection, movement and breathing techniques and utilization of equipment. Refer members with questions regarding exercise to the professional fitness staff. Operate A/V equipment and music with care. Complete accident/injury report when appropriate and submit to the LifeStyles Director, Group Exercise Manager and Manager on duty. Return all exercise equipment to proper storage and make sure all exercise equipment and studio floor/pool deck is clean for the next class. Attend scheduled staff meetings and bi-annual LifeStyles meetings. Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintain applicable certification/licensure. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintains communication link between Fitness Center Members and Guests, Fitness Center Management Team, Fitness Center Equipment Maintenance, Fitness Center Membership Services, and Fitness Center Part Time Staff. This includes announcements regarding class or program changes. Provides a high level of personalized attention, encouragement and motivation to group exercise program participants. Evaluates and instructs class participants new techniques/ and oversees classes for safety concerns Assists Fitness Centre Management in establishing a marketing plan for the group exercise program and specific classes. Tracks participation in the group exercise program. Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
