The Associate Athletic Trainer will coordinate and provide health care and comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes; maintain records and supplies; and ensure fiscal responsibility as it relates to student-athlete care. This position will also coordinate care with sports medicine physicians in the integration of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies in order to ensure the student-athletes are able to effectively and safely return to full fitness/participation; and work collaboratively within a sports performance model with other professionals, including: Sr. Associate AD for Sports Medicine and Performance, Director of Athletic Training, Associate Directors of Athletic Training, Athletic Trainers, Sports Dietitian, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, and Clinical psychologist, to ensure a positive student-athlete experience and treatment outcomes, and to mitigate the risk of sustaining injury. Responsibilities and Duties In consultation with the Director of Athletic Training and Team Physicians, the Associate Athletic Trainer will facilitate all health care for student-athletes associated with women’s soccer, which includes formulating effective therapeutic treatment plans, implementing treatments, monitoring progress, and returning student-athletes to play. This incumbent must possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment. May be responsible for assisting the physicians with care and treatment with acute orthopedic injuries by applying/removing/reapplying casts/splints and wound care as needed. Essential Job Functions: ============================ School Responsibilities (30 hours/week at St Andrews High School, in Barrington, RI) Act as a representative of University Orthopedics and the standards valued therein. Work with the athletic director to plans for providing athletic training coverage at interscholastic athletic events identified in Athletic Training Program Coverage Policy. Act as a Liaison between family physicians and specialists, teachers and the school district, coaches, athletes, and their parents. Work in conjunction with coaches and/or strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs. Develop coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death, Anaphylaxis, Sickle Cell, etc. DME/OT Responsibilities (10 hours/week) Provides direct patient care by fitting and instructing DME products to patients pre-operatively, post-operatively, or during a scheduled office visit. Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion. Assist staff and physicians in problem solving in regard to type of brace and fitting that best suits the patient and their situation. Reports any abnormalities in the forms to the DME Manager Responsible for recording the details in the patient’s medical record as well as completing all of the necessary documentation in order for the billing department to submit the DME claim to the patient’s insurance carrier.
