Frontend Software Engineer II

YahooNot specifiedhybrid

From $111,000/yr

Yahoo serves as a trusted guide for hundreds of millions of people globally, helping them achieve their goals online through our portfolio of iconic products. For advertisers, Yahoo Advertising offers omnichannel solutions and powerful data to engage with our brands and deliver results. A Little About Us The Media Platform team supports all Yahoo verticals in developing and delivering the best products to our customers globally with the highest standards. The Media Platform team is focused on enabling the company to build world-class products by creating and supporting services leveraged by multiple verticals. Our team operates with tenets that emphasize building a modern competitive platform regarding service, cost, and capabilities, ensuring services can be self-served, and supporting multiple verticals. A Lot About You We are looking for a skilled and motivated Software Engineer II to join the Media Platforms team. We build the shared services, infrastructure, and experiences that power content delivery across Yahoo's product portfolio. You'll work across the stack — with a focus on the frontend — to build, ship, and operate the services and interfaces that bring these experiences to life. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in modern React development and full stack sensibilities — someone comfortable working in backend services, cloud infrastructure, and APIs, not just the UI layer. You'll work closely with backend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver features that directly impact millions of users. We're looking for someone who is highly engaged, drives technical discussions forward, and contributes to the team's technical direction. The ideal candidate takes initiative and is comfortable shaping solutions in a fast-moving environment where the product is actively evolving. We don't expect you to have experience with every tool listed; curiosity and a willingness to learn go a long way. We value engineers who take pride in clean design, ask good questions, and lift up the team — not just the code. We support engineers who use AI-assisted tools as part of their day-to-day workflow — whether for coding, prototyping, debugging, or learning — and we share what's working across the team. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain performant frontend components and pages using React and Next.js within a server-rendered architecture. Develop and integrate with GraphQL APIs via Apollo Client to fetch and render content experiences. Build and maintain backend services and APIs that support the frontend, working across the full stack as needed. Implement reusable, accessible UI components aligned with the Yahoo Universal Design System (UDS) and modern design standards. Write clean, testable, and reliable code, deploying continuously to large-scale, globally distributed production systems. Write comprehensive tests using Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright to ensure quality and prevent regressions. Collaborate with backend engineers to define and evolve the GraphQL schema and data contracts that power the frontend experience. Optimize frontend performance including bundle size, rendering speed, lazy loading, and caching strategies for high-traffic pages. Take end-to-end ownership of key features and product areas, from implementation through deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability. Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to accelerate routine work, explore unfamiliar code, and stay focused on the hard problems that need human judgment. Support CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployments. Participate in code reviews to foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence. Work cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to translate requirements into polished, user-facing features. Actively contribute to technical discussions, clarify open questions, and help shape implementation approaches alongside senior engineers. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Required Skills \& Experience 3–5 years of professional software development experience with a strong frontend portfolio. Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern React (hooks, context, server components). Experience building applications with Next.js or similar React meta-frameworks (server-side rendering, static generation, API routes). Hands-on experience consuming GraphQL APIs using Apollo Client or similar libraries. Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive/accessible design principles (WCAG). Experience with modern testing frameworks (Vitest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress). Experience with Git-based workflows, code review practices, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar). Comfort working with AI-assisted development tools (code assistants, agentic dev environments, etc.) as part of a modern engineering workflow. Proficiency with documentation tools and design collaboration platforms such as Figma. Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. Self-directed and resourceful, with a track record of taking initiative and moving work forward independently. Preferred Skills \& Experience Experience with backend development (Node.js, Go, Java, or Python) and building or maintaining APIs. Familiarity with cloud service providers (AWS, GCP) and cloud-native architectures. Familiarity with component library development and documentation tools such as Storybook. Hands-on experience with Apollo GraphQL Server or GraphQL Federation. Proven track record in web performance optimization, application stability, and debugging for large-scale applications. Interest in AI-driven product experiences and how engineering can enable personalization at scale. Bonus Skills \& Qualifications Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform) for cloud resource provisioning. Experience with native mobile app development (React Native, Swift, or Kotlin) and mobile GraphQL clients (Apollo iOS, Apollo Kotlin). Experience integrating with design systems or contributing to shared component libraries. Exposure to observability and monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, Chronosphere). Experience with container-based deployment workflows (Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and feature flagging systems. The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity. Design backend pipelines that sync customer policy data, deliver timely alerts, and power seamless re-shopping experiences. Optimize and scale our internal tools (think: in-house DocuSign for servicing) to reduce agent intervention to nearly zero. Collaborate closely with product, data, and engineering ops to anticipate churn and improve customer retention. Work asynchronously across time zones, with minimal meetings but strong collaboration through Asana and Slack. Continuously improve our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. What we’re looking for Experience: At least 2 years full stack engineering experience building production-grade software, ideally prior experience building large scale distributed systems for a fast-growing consumer-facing software. Tech stack: Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and systems design matter more than having previous experience with specific languages or frameworks. Problem solver: You enjoy tackling ambiguous problems, breaking them down into actionable code, and iterating quickly. Ownership: You take responsibility for end-to-end outcomes and continuously improve the systems you build. Collaboration: Comfortable working asynchronously across teams and time zones, with excellent communication skills. Curiosity + adaptability: You love learning, exploring new tools, and stepping outside your comfort zone to understand the bigger picture. Our stack Frontend \& backend: TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, Expo API: GraphQL Data: Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, Redis Infrastructure: AWS, microservices, containerized services on ECS/EKS, asynchronous processing on Lambda Why Jerry? This isn’t just another coding job —you’ll be solving real-world problems at scale, helping millions of people manage their most expensive (or at least second most expensive) asset more effortlessly. You’ll work in a flexible, fast-moving, and highly collaborative culture, where innovation is encouraged, your voice is heard, and the impact of your work is immediate. You’ll tackle meaningful challenges, learn constantly, and grow alongside extremely talented engineers. If this sounds like your kind of place, we want to meet you! While we appreciate your interest and application, only applicants under consideration will be contacted. Jerry.ai is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
