About the Role: We’re looking for a Scientist, Biologics Research on the Biologics Research team to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the Sr Director, Research, you’ll work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists focused on the design, engineering, formulation development, and preclinical characterization of ground-breaking biotherapeutics. Specifically, you will help lead engineering and optimization campaigns for a diverse array of biomolecular scaffolds including enzymes, catalysts, binding and targeting moieties, signaling molecules, and drug delivery platforms of biological origin. What You'll Do: In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support discovery and development campaigns focused on next-generation biotherapies for serious unmet medical needs. You’ll also: * Help drive biomolecular engineering, immunology, and pharmacology efforts within Insmed research projects, including strategy and methods development * Construct recombinant systems encoding protein variants and combinatorial protein libraries * Conceptualize, construct, validate, and implement high throughput screening platforms to enable candidate selection from large panels and/or combinatorial libraries of engineered protein variants * Devise, optimize, and employ tailored protein expression and purification strategies for drug discovery programs * Develop, validate, and deploy functional, immunological, and pharmacological, assays to characterize protein performance in vitro (both exogenous and cell-based assays) and in vivo * Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records of methods development, experimental data, and data analysis in an electronic notebook system * Perform data review to ensure accuracy, completeness, and validity * Participate in cross-disciplinary mentoring and training within the research team * Present scientific results to the larger Insmed research group and external scientific community, as needed Who You Are: You have a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology or related fields. You are or you also have: * Deep technical understanding of and hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology, mammalian tissue culture, recombinant DNA technology, protein mutagenesis, and protein biochemistry * Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification as well as routine protein characterization methods including but not limited to spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, western blot, and ELISA * Experience with enzyme analysis and characterization and/or protein-protein binding analysis and characterization * Experience with high throughput functional screen development for protein libraries, AAV viral vectors, gene editing, and in vivo (rodent) are also preferred but not required * Must have excellent communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills * Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness * Proven track record in methods development, including experimental design, execution, and evaluation Where You’ll Work This role is based out of our Lebanon, NH Research Development Lab and requires full-time, in-person presence to support hands-on collaboration, access specialized equipment, and/or operational needs.
