About this Job: General Summary of Position The cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation clinical exercise physiologist develops complex exercise prescriptions and assesses the effectiveness and responses to interventions and documents according to established standards. The clinical exercise physiologist must quickly and effectively respond to medical emergencies in the clinical setting and is required to assist with scheduling clinical clerical tasks and quality improvement activities. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Assessment of participants relevant to exercise physiology to develop a plan of care with other team members. * Effectively develops and revises individual exercise prescription in accordance with AACVPR ACSM guidelines and physician recommendations on a regular basis. * Demonstrates correct body position and proper use of equipment to prevent injury and adhere to exercise prescription. * Monitors participants and reports any adverse response to exercise. Demonstrate competence in tele-monitoring EKG interpretation and blood pressure monitoring Terminates exercise when appropriate. * Assists with emergency care. * Documents initiation and daily assessments within established timeframes; reviews participant's ongoing progress with other staff. * Plans and educations participants regarding walking and home exercise programs and use of equipment. * Demonstrates knowledge of nutrition risk factor modification and behavioral change approaches. * Provider educational programs for participants in area of expertise. * Checks emergency supplies and equipment for proper function and adequate on a regular basis. * Keeps current in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation through continuing education conferences and literature. * Contributes to the achievement of established departmental goals and objectives and participates in the evaluation of program effectiveness. * Adheres to all departmental and hospital policy and procedures. * Performs other related duties as related to position when directed by the departmental director and/or supervisor. Minimal Qualifications Education* Bachelor's degree exercise science exercise physiology or kinesiology or related field required * Master's degree exercise physiology preferred Experience* 1-2 years minimum of experience working in a healthcare environment required Licenses and Certifications* ASCM AACVPR or CEPA certification or equivalent within 1 Year required * CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required * Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. Knowledge Skills and Abilities* Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for Southern Maryland Hospital Center. * Ability to read write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position. * Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission values and commitment to compliance with all federal state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities. * Exhibits professionalism courtesy and excellent customer service while interacting with patients guests and co-workers. * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. * Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. * Ability to assess vital signs and telemetry pre during and post-exercise. * Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies in order to determine and implement effective and appropriate courses of action. * Ability to document vital signs accu-checks and changes in activity medications or treatment. * Ability to explain processes to assist in minimizing customer/patient anxiety. Answers customer's questions when appropriate. * Ability to perform duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision or direction. * Ability to treat customers in a caring manner demonstrating a positive supportive respectful and helpful attitude to foster a positive image of the hospital and instill confidence. * Ability to effectively contribute to the department's objectives in order to create and maintain a fair and equitable work environment. * Ability to provide and maintain patient/customer privacy at all times. * Ability to make suggestions for improvements to procedures or innovations to enhance patient service. * Knowledge skill and ability to identify problems by collecting information from several sources analyzing the data and recommend an appropriate solution. * Knowledge skill and ability to utilize the following equipment accurately; manual BP cuff laptop computer desktop computer stethoscope pulse oximetry accu-check ambubag and treadmill. This position has a hiring range of : USD $22.04 - USD $38.41 /Hr.

YOU BELONG HERE Position Summary: The CLIN Exercise Physiologist - PRN: Works in a nationally certified cardiac and pulmonary rehab program for all phases of rehab (in-patient and out-patient) Plans, coordinates, and implements exercise and related programs for both cardiac and pulmonary rehab Provide assessments and treatments of patients Perform a wide a variety of non-invasive cardiac and pulmonary tests Organize and conduct medically prescribed cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services for inpatients and/or outpatients to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part, improve cardiac and pulmonary healing Assist the patient in reaching his/her maximum possible level of functioning to assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of their disease Follows guidelines, requirements, and recommendations from AACVPR and ACSM Innovations improve work procedures and methods and primarily result in some time and cost savings Work frequently requires internal contacts outside the work group to exchange work-related information Contact with external contacts involves providing or getting factual information Requires normal courtesy and tact in dealing with others Education: Master's Degree of Science in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology or related field. Must pass hospital Arrhythmia test within three (3) months of hire. Licensure/Certification: Current ACLS certification required. ACL needs to be obtained prior or within the first three (3) months of employment. Current CPR certification. American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist certification and/or American College of Sports Medicine Registered Clinical Exercise Physiology Exam preferred. Experience: Two (2) or more years experience in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation setting required, relevant to the setting(s) to which the employee will be assigned. Knowledge of Scottcare telemetry system preferred Salary Range: Minimum 28.00/hour - Maximum 28.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
