About Industrial Solutions Design
Industrial Solutions Design (ISD) is an engineering and manufacturing company specializing in custom industrial equipment, automation, mechanical design, fabrication, and field services.
We engineer solutions that solve complex problems. Our work spans the entire equipment lifecycle, from initial concept and mechanical design through fabrication, assembly, installation, and ongoing maintenance.
We are seeking a
**Mechanical Engineering Technician**
who enjoys working with their hands, solving mechanical problems, and building equipment from the ground up.
Position Overview
This is a hands\-on technical role that combines mechanical fabrication, equipment assembly, troubleshooting, and engineering support.
The primary responsibility will be working in our shop to fabricate, assemble, modify, and service industrial machinery. The successful candidate will also work alongside our engineering team, assisting with mechanical designs, CAD models, technical drawings, and equipment development.
We are looking for someone who enjoys turning wrenches as much as understanding how machines work.
This position offers an opportunity for a motivated technician to develop advanced mechanical and engineering skills while gaining practical experience designing and building custom industrial equipment.
Key Responsibilities
**Mechanical Fabrication \& Assembly**
* Fabricate and assemble custom industrial machinery and mechanical components.
* Perform welding, cutting, drilling, grinding, fitting, and general metalworking.
* Operate shop equipment, including CNC plasma cutting tables, saws, drills, and other fabrication equipment.
* Assemble mechanical systems, including bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, pneumatic components, and hydraulic equipment.
* Perform mechanical adjustments, equipment modifications, and troubleshooting.
* Assist with machine installations, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs.
**Engineering \& Design Support**
* Collaborate with mechanical engineers on custom equipment development.
* Assist with CAD modeling, mechanical drawings, and design revisions.
* Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication prints, and assembly documentation.
* Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
* Support prototype development, testing, and design improvements.
* Provide practical feedback to engineers based on shop\-floor experience.
Qualifications
**Required**
* Strong mechanical aptitude and hands\-on problem\-solving ability.
* Experience using common hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
* Basic understanding of mechanical systems and fabrication methods.
* Ability to read or learn to interpret mechanical drawings.
* Willingness to perform physical, hands\-on work in a shop environment.
* Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small\-team environment.
**Preferred**
* Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
* Practical experience with welding, machining, or metal fabrication.
* Familiarity with CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
* Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical systems.
* Exposure to CNC machining or CNC plasma cutting equipment.
* Experience assembling, maintaining, or troubleshooting industrial machinery.
Recent technical college graduates and candidates with equivalent hands\-on experience are encouraged to apply.
Professional Development
ISD offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to both the manufacturing and engineering sides of industrial equipment development.
As skills and experience develop, this position may expand into more advanced responsibilities involving mechanical design, CAD modeling, equipment development, and engineering project support.
We value individuals who are curious, mechanically inclined, resourceful, and motivated to continuously improve their technical capabilities.
Who Will Succeed in This Role?
The ideal candidate is someone who:
* Enjoys building, fixing, and understanding mechanical equipment.
* Is equally comfortable working with tools and learning technical software.
* Takes pride in craftsmanship and producing quality work.
* Enjoys solving problems without always having a detailed set of instructions.
* Is eager to learn from experienced engineers and technicians.
* Wants to develop a long\-term career in industrial equipment design and manufacturing.
