Technical Product Manager

**Technical Product Manager – Backend Services / APIs / Platforms (Contract)** **Location:** London – Hybrid, 2 days per week **Rate:** £750 per day **IR35:** Inside IR35 **Duration:** 6 months initial (potential extension) **Overview** An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Product Manager to join a growing technology team, taking ownership of the product strategy, roadmap and delivery of backend software services, APIs and Python\-based microservices. This is a product management role working closely with Software Engineering and Architecture teams to shape the development of scalable, cloud\-native digital services and platform capabilities. You will be responsible for defining product requirements, leading discovery, managing product backlogs and prioritising engineering activities, ensuring that technical solutions align with business objectives and user needs. The ideal candidate will have strong product management experience within a software engineering environment, alongside a good understanding of backend technologies, Python, APIs and microservices. **Role and Responsibilities** * Own the product vision, strategy and roadmap for backend software services, APIs and microservices * Work closely with Software Engineering and Architecture teams to define and deliver new product capabilities * Lead product discovery, gathering and translating business, user and technical requirements into clear product specifications * Manage and prioritise product backlogs, balancing new functionality, technical improvements and business priorities * Define user stories, acceptance criteria and measurable product outcomes * Work with engineering teams developing Python\-based backend services, APIs and cloud\-native applications * Understand technical dependencies across microservices, integrations, data services and wider platform architecture * Drive product development from initial discovery and requirements through to delivery and continuous improvement * Balance product requirements with technical feasibility, scalability, security and performance considerations * Engage with technical and non\-technical stakeholders to communicate product priorities, progress and delivery plans * Define and monitor product success measures, including service performance, adoption and reliability **Skills and Experience** * Strong experience as a Technical Product Manager, Software Product Manager or Product Owner within a software engineering environment * Proven experience owning product roadmaps, managing backlogs and driving software products from discovery through to delivery * Good understanding of backend software engineering, particularly Python\-based applications, APIs and microservices * Experience managing products or services involving API development, backend platforms, integrations or distributed systems * Strong experience translating complex technical and business requirements into clear product requirements and engineering deliverables * Experience working closely with Software Engineers, Technical Leads and Architects * Good understanding of cloud\-native technologies and modern software development practices * Strong Agile product management experience, including backlog refinement, prioritisation and stakeholder engagement * Experience balancing commercial and user requirements with technical dependencies and engineering constraints * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across technical and business teams * Previous hands\-on software engineering experience would be advantageous but is not essential
