Position Summary The Lead Product Owner for the Operational Insights \& Visualization-Contextualization Team leads the evolution of Marathon Petroleum’s digital twin and industrial AI capabilities, delivering high-impact digital products across Refining and the enterprise. This role drives product strategy, adoption, and value outcomes in a complex, multi‑partner ecosystem, working closely with senior leaders, engineering teams, and platform providers. Ideal candidates bring strong product leadership, business acumen, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while protecting value, relationships, and delivery outcomes. The Lead Product Owner role Identifies, collects, and evaluates new technology ideas, strategic extensions, or enhancements to existing products and/or services to determine their potential to address customer needs and to achieve goals in revenue growth and market share. Manages product lifecycles, including intent, definition, design, planning, development, prototyping and testing. Applies design thinking techniques (e.g. user stories, wireframing, prototyping) to define product features. May work with external partners to select and customize technology products and/or services. This role requires a blend of deep product leadership experience and strong domain fluency with emphasis on key capabilities such as digital twin, data transformation \& contextualization, industrial AI, 3D, and geographic information system (GIS). Key Responsibilities * Champion the vision, strategy, and delivery of next-generation industrial digital capabilities—including digital twin, industrial AI, and data transformation—transforming complex operational realities into scalable products that unlock measurable value across maintenance, turnaround, operations, and safety workflows. * Responsible for continuous delivery of value to the customer through compelling and empowering customer experiences, accountable for a complex/ critical product, or multiple related products (within a product family/portfolio). * Has accountability for leading the development of product roadmaps, prioritizing feature releases, and aligning them with business objectives. Drives cross-functional collaboration to gather insights, prioritize initiatives, and plan releases effectively. * Collaborates closely with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives to proactively identify and address challenges that arise during product development, ensuring successful execution of the product strategy. * Engages senior cross-functional leaders and proactively addresses and resolves issues, fostering effective communication, and promoting alignment between business and operations teams, UX design, product, engineering, analytics, and customer support teams. * Organizes stakeholder priorities and works with teams in order to align needs with resources ensuring cadence with customer value, business value, and strategic fit. Consults with the team during planning and grooming sessions and signs off on solutions. * Prioritizes product backlog, processes, and release plan (for multiple features for a complex or higher profile product) and plans the coordination of interdependencies with scrum team, across other lines of business. * Works with other teams, ensures team is aligned around similar goals and objectives / cross-team prioritization. Carries out ongoing analysis of product capability themes in order to support product direction. * Delivers product innovation, definition, deliverables planning (roadmap), and design of entirely new products to deliver against team and company goals. * Interprets and communicates product development builds on cross-departmental knowledge and puts the customer at the heart of all product changes. * Identifies common client pain points and opportunities and defines right solutions to address; captures stakeholder concerns and implements refinements; serves as the voice of the client, bringing that perspective back to internal stakeholders; serves as an Agile product develop champion across department and/or company. Education and Experience * Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience * Product Owner certification required; Product Management certification preferred. * 7+ years of relevant product owner experience required. * 5+ years leading large‑scale digital platform delivery or complex IT/business transformation programs, with demonstrated ownership of cross‑functional execution, stakeholder alignment, and measurable business outcomes required. * 3+ years of industrial, manufacturing, energy, or asset‑intensive operations experience preferred. * Experience owning or leading digital platforms or data‑driven products that integrate multiple systems, sources, and users preferred. * Experience introducing and scaling new platforms or products preferred. Manage platform change requests with full visibility into scope, impacts, risk, cost, and approvals. Govern SLAs, KPIs, and operational dashboards for AEM and related services. Ensure proper creation, maintenance, and quality of knowledge articles, runbooks, and support documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration Synchronize with engineering, QA, release managers, site reliability engineering (SRE), and DevOps teams to ensure seamless platform delivery. Partner with marketing teams to combine marketing strategy with appropriate Adobe capabilities. Collaborate with global support teams (onshore/offshore) to ensure consistent service levels. Platform Support \& Issue Management Identify and track design, reliability, integration, and maintenance issues. Consolidate feedback from customers, dealers, field staff, and digital teams. Provide guidance for AEM integrations, infrastructure dependencies, and performance optimization. Support and lead major releases, upgrades, deployments, and platform enhancements. User Acceptance, Testing \& Quality Control Define UAT strategies, acceptance criteria, and testing approaches. Ensure compatibility of AEM solutions across systems, integrations, and user groups. Partners with end-users to ensure business readiness and solution quality. Considerations For Top Candidates: Required Qualifications Progressively complex professional experience. Experience as a Product Owner/Manager, Lead Business Analyst, or Senior Project/Program Manager. Experience leading technical teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working within ITSM processes (incident, change, problem). Strong communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to handle sensitive, complex, or high-visibility issues. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or HCL Commerce. Understanding of how marketing strategy aligns with Adobe digital experience technologies. Hands-on experience with Agile tools (Jira, DevOps, Rally, Mingle, etc.). Experience with global onshore/offshore delivery models. Familiarity with ITIL or ITSM certifications (ITIL v3/v4, HDI, etc.). Experience collaborating with SRE/DevOps teams on reliability and performance improvements. Product Owner certification (CSPO, SAFe POPM, etc.). Strong understanding of SDLC, cloud platforms, and enterprise technology environments.
