Position Summary The Senior Commercial Lines Account Manager is a seasoned, client-facing role responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic stewardship of a complex book of middle-market commercial accounts. This position partners directly with producers as a co-owner of the client relationship, leads renewal strategy and remarketing, and mentors junior account managers. The Senior AM is expected to operate with minimal supervision, exercise independent judgment on coverage and placement decisions, and serve as a technical resource across the department. Key Responsibilities Client Relationship Management * Own day-to-day relationships for an assigned book of mid- to large-sized commercial accounts (typical book size $750K–$1.5M in agency revenue) * Serve as the primary point of contact for client service, coverage strategy, and account stewardship * Conduct annual client review meetings alongside producers, presenting coverage analyses, loss summaries, and renewal recommendations * Identify account rounding and cross-sell opportunities; coordinate with producers on growth strategy * Lead client retention efforts and proactively address service issues before they escalate Renewal Strategy \& Marketing * Build and execute renewal strategy 90–120 days in advance, including exposure analysis, loss review, and marketing plan * Prepare complete underwriting submissions for new and renewal business, including narratives, supplementals, and loss summaries * Negotiate terms, pricing, and coverage with carrier underwriters; leverage market relationships to secure best-in-class outcomes * Conduct coverage gap analysis and recommend program enhancements * Deliver renewal proposals and remarketing comparisons directly to clients Coverage \& Technical Expertise * Demonstrate deep technical knowledge across commercial lines coverages (GL, Property, Auto, WC, Umbrella, Inland Marine, Crime, Cyber, EPLI, D\&O, Professional) * Review policies, endorsements, and binders for technical accuracy and coverage adequacy; identify and resolve discrepancies * Interpret complex policy language for clients and internal teams * Advise on risk transfer, contract review, and certificate compliance requirements * Handle complex claims advocacy and escalation as needed Mentorship \& Team Leadership * Mentor and train Level I and Level II account managers; serve as a technical escalation resource * Review work product of junior team members for accuracy and coverage soundness * Contribute to development of agency procedures, templates, and best practices * Support onboarding of new hires and assist in identifying training needs across the team System, Documentation \& Compliance * Maintain meticulous documentation in Applied Epic, including activities, attachments, and policy data integrity * Ensure full compliance with agency procedures, E\&O standards, and carrier requirements * Identify process improvement opportunities and partner with operations on implementation * Support audits, data clean-up projects, and reporting initiatives Qualifications Education \& Experience * 5 years of commercial lines account management experience at an independent agency, with demonstrated handling of middle-market and complex accounts * Bachelor's degree preferred * Proven track record of client retention and account growth Licensing \& Designations * Active Property \& Casualty (P\&C) license required * CIC, CPCU, ARM, or CRM designation strongly preferred (or active pursuit thereof) * Continuing education current and in good standing Skills \& Competencies * Expert-level knowledge of commercial coverages and policy forms (ISO and proprietary) * Strong negotiation skills with carrier underwriters * Exceptional client communication, both written and verbal, including the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders * Proven ability to manage a high-volume, complex book independently * Sound judgment under pressure; able to prioritize across competing demands * Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff * Advanced proficiency in Applied Epic (or comparable AMS) and Microsoft Office; comfort with data and reporting tools a plus Preferred * Experience with specialty or niche industries (construction, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, real estate, etc.) * Experience with E\&S and program business * Familiarity with risk management concepts and contract review Performance Expectations * Retention rate of 92%+ on assigned book * Renewal strategy executed on time across 100% of accounts * Mentorship contributions visible across the team; junior staff demonstrably stronger as a result * Zero material E\&O exposures; documentation audit-ready at all times * Active contribution to account rounding and organic growth targets Career Path This role offers continued growth into: * Lead/Senior Account Executive * Commercial Lines Team Lead or Manager * Producer track (with appropriate licensing and business development interest) Compensation * Base Salary: $70,000 – $95,000 * Bonus potential tied to agency and individual performance Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * 401(k) matching * Dental insurance * Disability insurance * Health insurance * Paid time off * Vision insurance Application Question(s): * How many years of Commercial Lines experience do you have?
