Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Physical Therapy Exercise Technician to join our outpatient rehabilitation team. In this vital role, you will assist licensed physical therapists in delivering personalized exercise programs designed to improve patient mobility, strength, and overall well-being. Duties * Assist physical therapists in developing and implementing tailored exercise routines based on patient care plans. * Guide patients through prescribed exercises, ensuring proper body mechanics and technique to maximize safety and effectiveness. * Monitor vital signs, assess patient responses during therapy sessions, and document progress accurately within electronic health record systems such as Epic. * Support patient education by explaining exercise procedures, emphasizing the importance of adherence, and addressing questions related to physiology and anatomy. * Conduct patient assessments, including body mechanics analysis and basic vital sign checks, to inform ongoing treatment adjustments. * Maintain a clean, organized therapy environment and ensure all equipment is properly sanitized and functioning correctly. * Collaborate with healthcare team members to update care plans, track patient progress, and ensure optimal outpatient care delivery. ABOUT HEALTHWORKS! HealthWorks! is a family-based program in the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s for children and teens with overweight or obesity conditions. HealthWorks! is part of the Center for Better Health and Nutrition (CBHN), a national role model in combating childhood obesity that treats more than 900 patients annually. HealthWorks! promotes healthier eating habits and increased physical activity. The program is designed to meet the needs of our patients and their families by helping them set realistic, achievable goals. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Patient Care - Develops patient and diagnosis specific testing protocols in collaboration with physician leaders. Conducts exercise counseling, programming and rehabilitation, based on individual clinical status, field and fitness testing, and clinical goals, for hospital inpatients and outpatients Research - Participates in research. Obtains and maintains current Citi Training. Analyzes data and tests measures. Participates in data management and analysis for research projects, publications and presentations. Collaborates with the Heart Institute and other investigators wanting to use the resources of the department. Equipment Maintenance - Performs first echelon maintenance and calibration of medical instrumentation for exercise testing/therapy and data analysis. Training \& Education - Provides/generates training materials and programming for instruction of Fellows, residents, students of schools with whom we have contracts for clinical training, and allied health personnel. Conducts in-service on exercise testing/therapy for Fellows, residents and allied health care personnel. Attends required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, safety college, patient safety, and OSHA. Complies with infection control policies and procedures. Quality \& Process Improvement - Participates in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to Heart Institute discussions. Performs other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIOINS - EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST Masters degree in related field. May require license. 0+ years of work experience in a related job discipline. Strongly recommend obtaining Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional (CCRP) by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AAVPR) professional association within 2-3 years of hire. Promotes referral to rehabilitation program by developing a sound working relationship with referral sources - physicians and nurses. Places electrodes on patient for various cardiac monitors and tests. Counsels patient in home activity and exercise programs and purchase of exercise equipment. Assists in the resolution of cardiac emergencies or symptoms of exercise intolerance. Assists the in-program planning and implementation. May serve as a mentor for staff working for certification by American College of Sports Medicine in Exercise Technologist or Specialist category. Serves as a hospital consultant in area of exercise physiology. Participates in appropriate professional organizations for personal development. Assists in monitoring outpatient cardiac rehabilitation exercise groups. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
