Chief Operating Officer
Position Summary The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide enterprise-wide operational leadership across all branches. While based in Richmond, VA, this role requires consistent in-person presence at branch locations to ensure alignment, accountability, and operational standardization. The COO is responsible for profitability, performance management, safety compliance, fleet oversight, labor efficiency, and execution excellence across the organization. This is not a remote oversight role. The COO must be visible, engaged, and present in the field as needed to support leadership teams and major projects. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Operational Leadership * Provide full operational oversight for all branches (including Richmond HQ and additional regional locations) * Travel regularly to branch offices and job sites to ensure consistent standards and leadership alignment * Drive implementation of standardized processes across all locations * Establish clear KPIs for revenue, margin, labor utilization, fleet performance, safety, and customer satisfaction * Lead weekly operational performance reviews with branch leadership Financial \& Performance Management * Own branch-level P\&L accountability * Monitor margins, job costing accuracy, and labor ratios * Improve operational gross margins through process improvement and accountability * Develop scalable forecasting and operational performance models Fleet, Safety \& Compliance Oversight * Oversee fleet performance, maintenance compliance, and asset utilization * Ensure DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and industry compliance standards are consistently met * Strengthen and reinforce company-wide safety culture * Maintain audit readiness for insurance, regulatory, and industry partner reviews Systems \& Process Standardization * Lead adoption of enterprise systems and reporting dashboards * Ensure consistent job lifecycle workflows from sales handoff through billing * Develop and implement scalable SOPs across operations, warehouse, fleet, and labor deployment Leadership \& Talent Development * Direct oversight of Operations Managers, Warehouse Managers, and Fleet leadership * Travel to branches to mentor, coach, and evaluate leadership teams * Build accountability structures and succession planning across all locations * Support hiring strategy for operational growth Client \& Project Execution Oversight * Ensure operational excellence on large-scale commercial projects * Support complex or high-visibility jobs when needed * Align operational capacity with sales growth initiatives Qualifications * 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience * Proven experience managing multi-location operations * Strong financial acumen with P\&L responsibility * Experience in commercial moving, logistics, transportation, warehousing, construction services, or related industry preferred * Demonstrated success leading large teams across multiple markets * Ability and willingness to travel regularly to branch locations and job sites What Success Looks Like in Year One * Standardized processes implemented across all branches * Improved gross margins and labor efficiency * Strengthened safety performance metrics * Strong leadership accountability across every location * Operational infrastructure positioned for scalable growth Compensation * Competitive executive compensation package * Performance-based incentive structure * Benefits package * Executive leadership opportunity within a growth-focused organization
