Human Resources Manager
Industry: Manufacturing Department: Human Resources Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Human Resource Manager to manage the full HR function within a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of human resources, including workforce planning, labour relations, compliance, recruitment, payroll oversight, performance management, and employee development. This role requires a strong HR generalist with proven experience in managing large or unionised workforces, shift-based operations, and the fast-paced demands of a manufacturing facility. Key Responsibilities HR Strategy \& Workforce Management Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with manufacturing and operational requirements Manage workforce planning, shift structures, and headcount in line with production needs Partner with factory management to support productivity, efficiency, and workforce stability Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures suited to a manufacturing environment Recruitment, Selection \& Onboarding Manage end-to-end recruitment for factory, technical, supervisory, and management roles Coordinate onboarding, inductions, and probation processes for new employees Ensure staffing levels support production schedules and operational demands Employee \& Labour Relations Manage all employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, incapacity, and misconduct cases Chair and oversee disciplinary hearings and investigations Represent the company at the CCMA and other labour forums Engage with trade unions and shop stewards where applicable Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE Act, Skills Development Act, POPIA) Performance Management \& Training Implement and manage performance management systems across factory and support staff Identify training needs in line with production, safety, and skills requirements Manage skills development initiatives, SETA submissions, and workplace skills plans Support succession planning and talent development within the manufacturing operation Payroll, Compensation \& Benefits Oversee payroll inputs and ensure accurate processing for hourly, weekly, and monthly paid employees Manage leave, overtime, shift allowances, and benefits administration Ensure statutory compliance with UIF, PAYE, COIDA, and other labour-related requirements Employment Equity, Compliance \& Reporting Develop and manage Employment Equity plans and reporting Support B-BBEE requirements and audits where applicable Maintain accurate HR records, files, and reporting Prepare HR metrics and reports for management, including absenteeism, turnover, and disciplinary trends Health, Safety \& Wellness Work closely with SHEQ teams to support health, safety, and wellness initiatives Promote a safe working environment and compliance with occupational health and safety standards Manage absenteeism, injury-on-duty cases, and employee wellness programs Minimum Requirements Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field Minimum 5+ years’ experience as an HR Manager or Senior HR Generalist in a manufacturing environment Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation Proven experience managing labour relations and CCMA cases Experience working with unionised or shift-based workforces (advantageous) Payroll and HR systems experience Skills \& Competencies Strong leadership and people management skills Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation abilities High attention to detail and strong organisational skills Ability to work in a high-pressure, production-driven environment * Professional, ethical, and confidential approach Applicants who meet the required criteria and are shortlisted will be contacted.
