Virtual Assistant for Karibu Poetry

City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Volunteer Secretary / Virtual Assistant Our Mission Karibu Poetry is a donation-based community collective dedicated to celebrating diverse narratives and showcasing the depth of African heritage through literature and the spoken word. We believe in the power of storytelling to reflect cultural richness and truth. Our gatherings, such as Stranger’s Script and Chai \& Chill , are designed to be intentional, soulful experiences that foster authentic connection and creative excellence in a space of grace. The Call for Volunteers We are looking for a dedicated secretary/virtual assistant to join our team in a spirit of service. As Karibu operates as a donation-based collective, this is an unpaid volunteer position for someone who feels called to support the literary arts behind the scenes and help build up our community in Cape Town and beyond. How You Will Serve As the administrative heartbeat of our collective, your role will involve: * Inbox \& Communication Flow: Managing the Karibu Poetry email, responding to inquiries with warmth, and sending out/processing the Volunteer Form for new applicants. * Humble Logistics \& RSVPs: Keeping track of guest RSVPs for events like Stranger's Script , updating guest lists, and ensuring smooth digital communication with attendees. * Team Coordination: Helping schedule internal meetings, keeping brief notes on our collaborative sessions, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines. * Digital Organization: Maintaining our digital files, contact lists for poets and venue partners (like the Pink Room), and helping organize digital outreach materials. Who We Are Looking For We need a steady, organized hand to help our creative vision thrive. Ideal candidates will have: * A heart for African literature and a desire to see local voices flourish. * Exceptional organizational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to manage digital files and emails efficiently. * Warm, clear communication skills —leading with kindness, patience, and a "no stress" attitude in all correspondence. * Reliability and consistency to commit a few hours a week to keep the back-end running smoothly. * An understanding and respect for the donation-based, community-focused nature of our work. Join the Journey If you feel a pull toward this mission and want to contribute your organizational talents to the Karibu Poetry family, we would love to hear from you. To apply or ask any questions, please email Karibu Poetry at karibupoetry@gmail.com to request the Volunteer Form.
