Senior Software Engineering Manager Location: Hybrid (occsional office travel) Salary: up to £100,000 + Benefits Contract: Permanent A Senior Software Engineering Manager is needed to provide technical leadership and drive innovation in the development and operation of a critical Field Operations Platform for a major organisation. This is a role for someone experienced in leading multi-squad engineering teams, delivering robust platforms, and shaping modern engineering practices in a product-led environment. Role Highlights: * Lead technical direction and governance for the Field Operations Platform, ensuring scalability, operational resilience, and alignment with the organisation's technology strategy. * Oversee end-to-end software development lifecycle across multiple squads, maintaining high standards from design through to deployment and operations. * Define and implement engineering patterns, architectural principles, and non-functional requirements, ensuring robust, maintainable, and secure systems. * Develop and enhance delivery capabilities by embedding DevOps practices, automating deployment pipelines, and improving observability and incident recovery processes. * Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, coordinating plans, managing risks, and aligning on priorities across product, delivery, operational, and business teams. * Drive continuous improvement within engineering squads, coaching engineers and fostering a culture of high performance, learning, and innovation. * Support the design of data-driven, API-centric integrations that ensure quality, scalability, and operational reliability. Key Skills \& Experience: * Proven leadership in developing and delivering engineering strategies across complex technical environments. * Hands-on experience in software development with expertise in one or more core programming languages. * Strong knowledge of API management, microservices, integration patterns, and event-driven architectures. * Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, observability, and incident handling at scale. * Skilled in data management, modelling, and quality controls for operational resilience. * An energetic problem solver with a focus on simplification, innovation, and continuous improvement. * Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and modern engineering practices to increase automation reliability and reduce manual effort.
