Roster: Monday to Friday Fortescue is accelerating its transformation through AI and data to automate, optimise, and decarbonise operations across mining and energy. We’re seeking a Senior Full Stack AI Engineer to join our Data \& AI Platform Team, where you’ll help build the scalable, secure platforms that power enterprise-grade AI solutions across the business. This role offers the chance to shape core AI capabilities at scale while working on meaningful, future-focused outcomes. Key Responsibilities ------------------------ Design, build and deploy end-to-end full stack solutions across frontend, backend and AI services Develop reusable, enterprise-grade UI components, APIs, microservices and AI-enabled services Ensure seamless integration between user-facing applications and AI-powered platforms Collaborate with architects, data scientists, and engineers to align with enterprise architecture and security standards Lead prototyping and evaluation of emerging AI and full stack technologies Mentor engineers and contribute to best practices across the platform team Qualifications and Experience --------------------------------- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field 4+ years’ experience designing, building, and delivering enterprise-scale full stack applications, including AI-enabled systems in production Strong hands-on experience across modern frontend and backend frameworks (e.g. React or Angular, Node.js, Python) Demonstrated experience working in cloud-native environments, including ownership of deployment, scalability, reliability, and CI/CD pipelines (AWS or Azure, containers, IaC) Proven ability to design solutions aligned to enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards Experience integrating applications with data platforms, APIs, and event-driven or microservice-based systems * Evidence of senior-level technical contribution, including leading design decisions, mentoring engineers, and influencing engineering best practices About Us ------------ Be part of something big. The key mission of this role will be to design, develop and deliver the optimisation algorithms driving the AI solutions \& systems that transform the capability and coordination of one of the largest vertically integrated mine, rail and port operations in the world. The right candidate will bring a strong curiosity and technical perspective to these challenges, including a depth of experience in combinatorial optimisation and algorithm design, along with a drive for delivering outcomes and working software in cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities ------------------------ Lead the design, development and implementation of optimisation algorithms and models that drive the AI systems to drive productivity in our integrated supply chain operations. Establish monitoring systems to track the performance of optimisation algorithms and models, and opportunities for improvement. Maintain the backlogs for AI solution development and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prioritise their development. Establish and maintain operations research best practice, including model formulation and algorithm design to support functional requirements. Stay up to date with developments in OR, in particular the intersection with AI systems, and incorporate emerging techniques and technologies into our design. Communicate the basis, impact and value of AI systems to a broad range of stakeholders, including senior leadership. Mentor junior data scientists and optimisation specialists and help support the capability development of operations research across Fortescue. Qualifications and Experience --------------------------------- An advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or engineering. Experience (7+ years) in operations research \& optimisation system delivery in the mining, transport or heavy industry sector. Deep understanding and practical experience in applying combinatorial optimisation and heuristic techniques to scheduling problems, including decision-making under uncertainty. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for mathematical modelling of real-world systems. Strong knowledge of optimisation tools and technologies (i.e. CPLEX, Gurobi). Proficiency in general programming languages and integration into larger software systems (i.e. C++, Python). Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop junior team members. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex AI algorithm and system concepts to a broad range of stakeholders. Familiarity with machine learning and statistical analysis, and an interest in the intersection of OR and AI techniques (beneficial). About Us ------------ Be part of something big.
