Vice President of Engineering Operations Location: Remote (Continental US) Department: Engineering Clearance: U.S. Citizen, Public trust eligible Role Overview The Vice President of Engineering Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for operationalizing engineering strategy, scaling execution, and ensuring predictable delivery across a multi-team engineering organization. This role serves as operating leader of Engineering, partnering closely with the CTO and Engineering leadership to translate strategy into execution, remove operational friction, and ensure the organization can deliver reliably at scale. The VP of Engineering Operations owns the engineering operating model — including planning cadence, delivery governance, dependency management, platform enablement, DevOps maturity, and operational visibility — so that engineering leaders and teams can focus on building high-quality products while maintaining speed, reliability, and clarity. Key Responsibilities Engineering Operating Model \& Delivery Governance * Own the end-to-end operating cadence for engineering delivery, including quarterly planning, dependency management, execution tracking, and delivery risk mitigation * Establish and maintain engineering governance mechanisms that balance team autonomy with organizational predictability * Act as the executive owner for large, cross-team initiatives that require coordination across Platform, Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Operations * Ensure consistent execution practices across teams while respecting domain-specific needs Platform, DevOps \& Developer Experience Leadership * Lead organization-wide initiatives to improve engineering effectiveness, including DevOps maturity, platform enablement, and developer experience * Champion standardized delivery patterns, self-service tooling, and golden paths that reduce cognitive load and operational friction * Ensure platform capabilities allow teams to ship production-ready services quickly, safely, and with observability and security built in by default Metrics, Insights \& Executive Communication * Own the definition, rollout, and interpretation of engineering health and delivery metrics, including DORA and platform adoption signals * Translate operational data into clear, executive-level insights that inform roadmap prioritization, investment decisions, and staffing strategy * Provide the CTO and executive leadership with a trusted, real-time view of delivery health, risks, and outcomes Observability, Reliability \& Cost Stewardship * Lead the organization’s observability strategy, including tooling selection, adoption, and long-term evolution * Drive cost optimization efforts across engineering tooling, platforms, and vendor relationships while maintaining reliability and visibility * Ensure observability investments support both engineering productivity and executive decision-making Cross-Functional \& Stakeholder Leadership * Act as a trusted partner to VPs of Engineering, Product, SRE, Security, and Customer Experience * Coordinate third-party vendors, service providers, and contracts with clear accountability and measurable outcomes * Lead change management efforts to ensure adoption of new processes, tools, and operating models across the organization What Success Looks Like * Engineering teams deliver with greater predictability, speed, and confidence * Leadership has a clear, trusted view of engineering health, capacity, and delivery risk * Platform and DevOps investments measurably reduce cognitive load and increase productivity * Large-scale initiatives land on time, on budget, and with sustained adoption * Engineering tooling and vendor spend is optimized without sacrificing quality or reliability Qualifications * Extensive experience (5+ years) in engineering operations, platform leadership, DevOps transformation, or large-scale technical program leadership * Proven success leading enterprise-level transformation initiatives impacting multiple teams and hundreds of engineers * Strong understanding of modern software delivery, CI/CD, observability, and developer experience principles * Exceptional ability to translate technical and operational signals into executive-level insights and decisions * Demonstrated success partnering with VP- and C-level leaders across Engineering, Product, and Operations * Strong organizational leadership skills with a bias toward clarity, accountability, and execution Job Type: Full-time Pay: $200,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * 401(k) matching * Dental insurance * Health insurance * Life insurance * Paid time off * Professional development assistance * Vision insurance Work Location: Remote
