This position exists to provide centralized fiscal leadership and oversight for the assigned bureau within the New Mexico Environment Department, ensuring that financial resources are strategically managed, fully compliant, and aligned with programmatic priorities. By overseeing budgeting, financial controls, and funding stewardship, the Bureau Financial Manager enables informed decision-making, safeguards public funds, and ensures the bureau's operations are financially sound and sustainable. The role adds value by translating complex state and federal financial requirements into effective financial management practices that support the bureau's ability to carry out its regulatory and environmental protection mission. How does it get done? Oversee all fiscal operations for the assigned bureau, including developing and managing annual operating and budget requests, monitoring expenditures across multiple funding sources Ensure compliance with state and federal financial requirements Manage procurements, payments, and travel reimbursements performs regular financial reconciliations to ensure accuracy and accountability Ensure proper cost allocation across funding sources Prepare financial analyses and reports to support leadership decisions and maintain accurate fiscal documentation for audits and reviews Ensure the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the bureau's programs Who are the customers? Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required.
