**Position Title:** Chief Development Officer
**FLSA Status**: Exempt, Full\-Time
**Immediate Supervisor:** President and CEO
**Employees Supervised: Development Administrative Coordinator,** Director of Communication, Director of Digital Strategy \& Engagement, Donor Services Manager, Grants Manager, Senior Major Gifts Officer
**Position Summary:** Member of Senior Leadership Team. Develops and executes annual and long\-range fund development plans to ensure continued growth in giving. Develop relationships with key donors. Supervises marketing and public relations efforts. Participates in organization\-wide leadership and decision\-making.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
· Member of Senior Leadership Team contributing to organization\-wide strategic direction and decision\-making.
· Works with President \& CEO to develop annual and long\-range fundraising strategies and goals.
· Actively fosters a productive and collaborative working environment, in alignment with organizational values.
· Meets budgeted fundraising goals.
· Prepares and monitors the departmental budget.
· Establishes departmental goals and goals for individuals in the department.
· Proactively develops strategies, grant requests, events, outreach and donor calls and funding ask as needed to support programs and activities of the Food Bank.
· Coordinates direct mail activities, including planning and implementation of direct mail program in collaboration with vendors and community partners.
· Develops and implements major gifts program.
· Updates and implements donor acknowledgement, stewardship, and cultivation process
· Ensures accurate and complete recordkeeping, including documentation of all interactions with donors in donor database
· Establishes and monitors plans to ensure active cultivation of relationships with current and prospective donors.
· Build relationships directly with a portfolio of current and prospective major donors
· Submit reports and updates to donors as necessary.
· Oversee the creation and execution of marketing and public relations plans.
· Develops written cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans
· Helps coach and inspire staff, board members and others in cultivation of donors and prospects
· Partners with CEO, board members and others in making solicitations as appropriate
· Represents the HCFB as a media spokesperson as needed
· Oversees Development Working Group
· Performs other duties as assigned

**Specific to Position**
· Bachelor’s degree required (Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, Marketing, Public Administration, or related field)
· CFRE (Certified Fund\-Raising Executive) strongly preferred
· Five years plus of progressive fundraising leadership experience
· Five year plus of senior management overseeing development teams
· Fundraising \& Revenue Generation Expertise
· A food bank CDO must demonstrate proven ability to build and sustain diverse revenue streams.
· Major gifts strategy and personal solicitation
· Corporate partnerships and sponsorship development
· Foundation and grant cultivation (local, state, federal)
· Planned giving programs
· Special events oversight (galas, community drives, peer\-to\-peer campaigns)
· Experience working with feeding networks such as Feeding America
· Strategic Leadership \& Executive Presence
· Ability to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team
· Experience creating 3–5\-year development strategic plans
· Revenue forecasting and pipeline management
· Board engagement and fundraising training
· Experience presenting to boards, corporate executives, and major donors
· Strong data\-driven decision\-making skills
· Food bank CDOs must translate mission impact (meals distributed, families served, pounds rescued) into compelling donor narratives.
· Understanding of food sourcing (retail rescue, USDA commodities, purchased food)
· Knowledge of hunger policy and public funding
· Experience communicating ROI in terms of “meals per dollar”
· Understanding of warehouse/logistics operations and how to translate operations into donor impact
· High\-level relationship builder with community leaders
· Experience managing corporate volunteer engagement tied to philanthropy
· Public speaking and media engagement experience
· Ability to steward multi\-million\-dollar donor portfolios
· Cultural competency and ability to represent the organization across diverse communities
· Experience leading development teams (major gifts, grants, events, donor services, communications)
· Budget management
· CRM oversight (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang, etc.)
· Data analytics and donor segmentation strategy
· Mission\-driven leadership

· Resilient under pressure (especially during disaster response or high\-demand seasons)
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

**Working Conditions:** This position is responsible for all fund development and special events. Since the HCFB depends on these income sources for approximately 70% of the annual budget, the position can require long hours and can be somewhat stressful during the peak fund\-raising season (holidays and wither months). This position is expected to work long hours when necessary, including occasional weekends. Must be comfortable in a fast\-changing, busy, and occasionally ambiguous environment. In emergency situations, you must be willing to work in demanding conditions.
Pay: $140,000\.00 \- $160,000\.00 per year
