Chief Operating Officer Commercial HVAC

**Job Summary** **Reports to:** Chief Executive Officer (CEO) **Role Overview** We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) responsible for leading and optimizing all operational functions of G Mechanical Inc., including service, maintenance contracts, construction projects, controls, and facilities support. This role ensures operational excellence across complex, multi\-site projects while driving profitability, safety, quality, and scalable growth. The COO works closely with the CEO to execute company strategy, lead senior operations leadership, and build systems that support long\-term expansion in commercial and industrial markets. **Core Responsibilities** **Commercial Operations Leadership** * Oversee all commercial HVAC operations including service departments, preventive maintenance programs, retrofit projects, new construction, and design\-build work * Lead project management, service management, dispatch, warehouse, fleet, and field operations * Ensure contract compliance, scope control, change order management, and schedule adherence * Standardize operating procedures across service and project teams to improve consistency and performance **Project \& Service Performance** * Drive on\-time, on\-budget delivery of commercial HVAC projects * Oversee job costing, WIP tracking, labor productivity, and material management * Reduce rework, warranty claims, and callbacks * Improve service contract renewals and long\-term client retention **Financial \& Margin Management** * Partner with finance to manage operational budgets, forecasts, and P\&L performance * Improve gross margins through labor optimization, procurement strategy, and pricing discipline * Review project estimates, bids, and risk exposure for major commercial contracts * Implement KPIs for project profitability, service efficiency, and backlog management **Leadership \& Talent Development** * Lead and develop operations leaders including project managers, service managers, field supervisors, and department heads * Support workforce planning, recruiting, training, and retention of skilled technicians and trades * Build a culture of accountability, safety, and performance excellence * Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety programs, union agreements (if applicable), and licensing requirements **Client \& Stakeholder Management** * Act as a senior operational contact for key commercial and industrial clients * Support sales and estimating teams on large pursuits and strategic accounts * Ensure consistent service quality across national, regional, and multi\-site customers **Systems, Safety \& Scale** * Dispatch, project management, * Lead operational integration of acquisitions or new branches * Strengthen safety programs, risk management, and quality control processes * Build scalable infrastructure to support growth across multiple markets and locations **Qualifications** * 10\+ years of senior operations leadership in **commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, or construction services** * Strong background in **project management, service contracts, and large\-scale commercial work** * Proven success managing multi\-million\-dollar projects and service portfolios * Deep understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and margin control * Experience leading large field teams and multi\-location operations * Strong financial, analytical, and strategic planning skills * Exceptional leadership and cross\-functional communication abilities **Preferred Experience** * Prior COO, VP of Operations, or Director of Operations role in commercial HVAC * Experience with design\-build, controls, energy efficiency, or industrial HVAC systems * Experience working with GC relationships, subcontractors * Familiarity with commercial HVAC software platforms **Key Success Metrics** * Project and service gross margin performance * On\-time and on\-budget project delivery * Labor productivity and utilization * Safety performance and incident reduction * Client retention and contract renewal rates * Scalability and operational consistency Pay: $120,000\.00 \- $170,000\.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * Dental insurance * Health insurance * Paid time off * Vision insurance Experience: * Senior Operations Leadership: 10 years (Preferred) Work Location: In person
