Substation Engineer

Reference: NES024149-KSE-1 Our client is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to support the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of high-voltage substations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable power infrastructure across utility-scale and industrial projects. Duties & Responsibilities • Design and review primary and secondary substation layouts and drawings • Perform equipment sizing and selection (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) • Develop technical specifications, scopes of work, and bill of quantities • Oversee substation construction, installation, testing, and commissioning • Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and utility standards • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams • Support protection, control, and SCADA integration where required • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and project timelines Minimum Requirements • BEng / BSc in Electrical Engineering • 3–8+ years’ experience in substation engineering (HV/MV) • Strong knowledge of primary and/or secondary substation systems • Experience with Eskom, municipal, or IPP standards (advantageous) • Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit or similar tools advantageous) • Willingness to travel to site when required Professional Registration • ECSA registration (PrEng / PrTech / PrTechniEng) – advantageous or in progress Apply now!
