Job Title: **Chief People Officer** (CPO)
**Reports To:** Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President

Position Summary
The **Chief People Officer (CPO**) is a strategic executive leader responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive people and culture strategy that supports the organization's mission, values, and long\-term clinical and operational goals. As a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, the CPO leads all aspects of human capital management in a complex, highly regulated healthcare environment, ensuring the organization attracts, develops, engages, and retains a diverse, high\-performing workforce committed to exceptional patient care.
The CPO will champion a culture of accountability, compassion, inclusion, and continuous improvement while aligning workforce strategies with evolving clinical, regulatory, and financial demands.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership \& Culture
* Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to enterprise\-wide strategy and decision\-making.
* Develop and lead a forward\-looking people strategy aligned with organizational goals, clinical excellence, and patient\-centered care.
* Foster a values\-driven, inclusive, and high\-engagement culture that supports employee well\-being, resilience, and ethical conduct.
* Act as a change leader during periods of growth, transformation, labor challenges, or organizational redesign.
Talent Strategy \& Workforce Planning
* Lead enterprise\-wide workforce planning to address current and future clinical, administrative, and leadership talent needs.
* Oversee executive recruitment, physician and clinical workforce strategies, succession planning, and leadership development.
* Ensure effective onboarding, performance management, and career development programs across all levels of the organization.
Labor Relations \& Employee Engagement
* Provide strategic oversight of labor relations, including union partnerships where applicable, contract negotiations, and dispute resolution.
* Promote positive employee relations, engagement, and communication across a diverse workforce.
* Lead initiatives to reduce turnover, burnout, and workforce shortages, particularly in critical clinical roles.
Compensation, Benefits \& Total Rewards
* Design and oversee competitive, equitable, and compliant compensation and benefits programs aligned with market trends and financial stewardship.
* Ensure pay practices support recruitment, retention, and performance while advancing fairness and transparency.
Compliance, Risk \& Governance
* Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and labor requirements.
* Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management to mitigate workforce\-related risk.
* Provide regular reporting and insights to the CEO and Board on workforce metrics, trends, and risks.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion \& Belonging (DEIB)
* Lead enterprise DEIB strategy, ensuring equitable hiring, advancement, and workplace practices.
* Promote cultural competence and inclusive leadership across clinical and non\-clinical teams.
* Support workforce diversity initiatives that reflect the communities served by the hospital.
HR Operations \& Technology
* Oversee HR operations including HRIS, analytics, policies, and service delivery models.
* Leverage data and technology to improve workforce insights, decision\-making, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications \& ExperienceRequired
* Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
* Minimum of 12–15 years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior executive experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or similarly complex, regulated environment.
* Demonstrated expertise in workforce strategy, labor relations, executive compensation, and organizational development.
* Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and clinical workforce dynamics.
* Proven ability to lead large, diverse teams through change and transformation.
Preferred
* Experience working with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
* Experience in academic medical centers or multi\-site healthcare systems.
* Professional certifications such as SPHR, SHRM\-SCP, or equivalent.
