**Chief Compliance Officer \- UAW Compliance Department** The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is a 400,000\-member\-strong, progressive, fighting union with one of the largest and most diverse memberships in North America. The UAW seeks a mission\-driven Chief Compliance Officer to advance the development and implementation of an organization\-wide compliance program that advances the goals of our members. The CCO will help the union prepare to exit a court\-imposed monitorship in 2027 and advise senior leaders and the Board on compliance risks while leading and managing all compliance related activities. This role is a senior member of leadership; it will report directly to the organization’s governing International Executive Board, with support as needed from the Legal Department. This position will be based at the UAW Solidarity House located in Detroit, MI **Job Description \& Key Responsibilities** A strong CCO candidate possesses a blend of compliance and regulatory expertise, leadership skills, problem solving skills, communication and interpersonal skills, and confidentiality and discretion. The ideal candidate will have the proven ability to handle complex situations with integrity and professionalism and be adaptable. You are comfortable with change, practical, and able to promote compliance while fostering a positive work environment. You are a team player who can work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including a court\-appointed monitor. You are an independent leader skilled at managing multiple projects and work streams. For more information about the UAW monitorship, see this link: Court\-Appointed, Independent Monitor of the UAW (https:www.uawmonitor.com) Duties will include but are not limited to: * Working with the Board and Senior Leadership to set strategic direction for the compliance program, and executing on those goals and priorities. * Overseeing the implementation of Monitor\-related recommendations as needed. * Continuing to build out a compliance program to ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations, with a focus on addressing compliance issues related to corruption, bribery, fraud, unethical practices, conflicts of interest, and workplace discrimination and harassment. * Identifying key risk areas and gaps, and tailoring the compliance program accordingly. * Conducting periodic risk assessments to identify and mitigate changes in risk profile. * Developing and helping execute a plan for effective communication and training on policies and procedures. * Monitoring material updates to federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements, and communicating them to key stakeholders. * Auditing compliance reporting and certification requirements to ensure proper procedures and reporting lines are followed and that requirements are timely met. * Creating and tracking metrics on compliance\-related complaints made to the organization and their ultimate resolution. * Monitoring and confirming compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. * Reviewing and improving the terms and controls of internal policies to reduce risks and facilitate compliance. * Coordinating and collaborating with other departments to ensure alignment with compliance priorities. * Advising the Board and senior management on compliance matters and potential risk areas. * Helping to manage compliance communications to regulatory agencies, the Monitor’s Office, and internal stakeholders. * Investigating and remediating compliance issues. * Fostering a culture of ethics and compliance throughout the organization. * Working with UAW International departments \& Regions as needed. **Education and Experience:** * Law or other relevant advanced degree * 10\+ years’ relevant experience in compliance, investigations, or equivalent experience at a prosecutor’s office or regulatory agency * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability to build trust and foster collaboration across diverse teams * Skilled in navigating complex environments with discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism * Comfortable facilitating open dialogue, resolving conflict, and driving ethical decision\-making * Flexible and adaptable leadership style to guide teams through change and uncertainty * Comfortable communicating with regulators, the Monitor’s Office, and the court * Commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and transparency * Leadership and supervisory skills * Ability to lead a team and mentor other staff * Strong attention to detail * Commitment to confidentiality and discretion * Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Forms), remote meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.), and related software * Must be able to travel * Familiarity with the U.S. labor movement and its structure is a plus *Note: This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position.
