Main duties of the job To provide clinical support in the Pre-Operative Assessment (POA) Unit and act as an autonomous practitioner. Undertaking both formal and informal teaching to cascade knowledge, skills and promote best practice within the POA service.The Pre Assessment Nurse Pracitioner will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating care to meet patients needs.Carry out duties under the direction of Department Sister providing a pre-operative assessment service for all patients accessing the unit.To work within the orgnisations policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines.To maintain effective communication with the multi-professional team about patient careTo develop knowledge and skills appropriate to the role and work areaTo contribute to the development of services and quality improvements About us The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) is a combined acute and community Trust serving our local population of around 270,000 people. Person Specification knowledge Essential • Sound clinical knowledge in all aspects of pre-operative assessment • Understands the concepts of clinical governance and shared governance including evidence based practice and critical appraisal of research findings. Desirable • Demonstrates knowledge of effective risk management • Knowledge of current NHS issues including performance targets and the wider modernisation agenda • Knowledge of national nursing agenda and application to role • NMC Code of Conduct • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload • Ability to work independently and within a team • Use own initiative and meet deadlines Experience Essential • Previous experience in Surgery/Pre-operative Assessment • Leadership and management skills • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory and post registered qualification(s) • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners Desirable • Able to demonstrate appropriate clinical and managerial skills commensurate with the post Qualifications Essential • Degree level qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience at senior level • Professional and clinical competence.
