The candidate should have a particular interest in leading an Orthopaedic Immediate Care Center. Qualified candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent and be eligible for a California medical license. Candidates must have completed an accredited fellowship training in non-operative Sports Medicine. Demonstrated excellence in research, preferably with a track record of extramural funding, is valued but not required. Candidates should be fully engaged in providing state-of-the-art, patient-centered care. Chief Purpose of Position: We are seeking candidates to directly care for patients in the orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine service line. The candidate will improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCU Health System and provide prompt high-quality orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine care. The incumbent will assist and develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in new technologies, clinical research and teaching along with mentoring residents and fellows and working within the hospital system and with other departments to provide multidisciplinary care for orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine patients. Position Responsibilities: Teaching: The candidate will staff inpatient services with learners including medical students, interns and residents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner. Research: The candidate will participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations; participation may be as principal investigator or co-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank. Service: The candidate will work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health. Clinical: The candidate will manage patients who present through the orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; work effectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications M.D. degree and appropriate certification/eligibility for orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine. Direct experience managing complex orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures.
