The Lead Java Full Stack Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of complex software solutions within the Portfolio Management Technology organization. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, guiding development teams on best practices while translating business and functional requirements into scalable, production-grade applications. A working understanding of Asset Management and Fixed Income securities is important to succeed in this role, as the systems built directly support portfolio managers, traders, and other investment professionals. Key Responsibilities and Duties * Designing, building, and testing software solutions across multiple technologies in alignment with established SDLC standards and architectural guidelines. This includes full stack development spanning backend Java/Spring services, RESTful APIs, and modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular. * Translating business, functional, and technical requirements into well-structured, maintainable software components. The developer is expected to engage directly with stakeholders, including senior investment professionals such as portfolio managers and traders, to clarify requirements and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly. * Leading and overseeing the configuration, customization, and enhancement of applications, including diagnosing issues and driving resolution across environments. Monitoring development work to ensure delivered software meets established functional goals and quality standards. * Providing technical coaching, code reviews, and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers, helping to elevate team capabilities and enforce consistent development standards. * Participating actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. Maintaining a well-prioritized product backlog and providing accurate effort estimates to support on-time, within-budget delivery. * Creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation in accordance with SDLC and organizational standards. * Leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot, or Kiro to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, and encouraging adoption of these tools across the team. Educational Requirements * Bachelor's Degree Required Work Experience * 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred Physical Requirements * Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work Career Level 9IC Required Skills: * Java and Spring Framework development experience, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on programming in production environments. This includes Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Security as applicable. * A minimum of 5 years of experience building Microservices and RESTful APIs using Java or Python, deployed as AWS Lambda functions or containerized workloads. * Proficiency with relational database technologies including PostgreSQL, Oracle, or comparable RDBMS platforms, with the ability to write complex queries, joins, and both DML and DDL statements. * Experience with containerization using Docker, version control using Git/GitHub, and CI/CD pipeline management using tools such as Jenkins or CloudBees. * Working knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and KMS, with an understanding of cloud networking fundamentals and secure infrastructure operations. * A minimum of 3 years of experience using GitLab for source control and code review workflows, Jira for Agile project and issue tracking, and Terraform for infrastructure as code. * Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior investment professionals, including portfolio managers and traders, translating technical concepts into business-relevant language. Preferred Skills: * 5+ years of experience working within Asset Management technology, with familiarity with portfolio management systems, order management systems, or related platforms. * 3+ years of experience supporting Fixed Income securities or portfolio management workflows, with an understanding of instruments such as bonds, derivatives, or structured products. * Experience with front-end development using React or Angular, contributing to full stack delivery across the user interface and backend services. * Familiarity with additional AWS services such as ELB, EKS, Glacier, or other managed services relevant to scalable financial systems. * A demonstrated ability to research emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concept initiatives, bringing innovation into the development process in a structured and risk-aware manner. * Comfort working with a broad range of open source technologies and cloud-native services.
