Overview Voices of Hope is seeking a values-driven, trauma-informed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team and help guide the financial future of a growing, mission-focused nonprofit. This is more than a finance role—it is an opportunity to lead with purpose, mentor teams, and ensure that ethical, transparent financial systems actively support healing, recovery, and community impact. The CFO provides strategic oversight of all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, grant and contract compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, and Board of Directors, the CFO helps align financial decision-making with organizational values, program growth, and long-term sustainability. This role requires a collaborative leader who understands that people come before spreadsheets. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit financial expertise while also modeling trauma-informed leadership—supporting, mentoring, and empowering staff through clarity, compassion, and accountability. The CFO plays a key role in strengthening systems that promote transparency, compliance, and trust across the organization, ensuring our teams have the financial structure they need to do their best work. What You’ll Do As CFO, you’ll provide strategic financial leadership while partnering closely with the Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, and Board of Directors. You’ll guide big-picture financial planning while ensuring day-to-day excellence, compliance, and transparency. Strategic Leadership \& Planning Serve as a trusted financial advisor to executive leadership and the Board, including active participation in finance and audit committees Align financial strategy with organizational goals, program priorities, and mission impact Lead annual budgeting and multi-year financial forecasting, including scenario planning Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies, including reserve and cash-flow planning Support strategic initiatives, program expansion, and new funding opportunities through financial analysis Financial Oversight \& Accountability Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll oversight, and cash management Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations Prepare clear, meaningful financial reports and presentations for Board meetings Ensure timely completion of IRS Form 990 and other required financial filings Grants, Contracts \& Compliance Oversee financial management of all grants and contracts (federal, state, local, and private) Review and approve grant budgets, budget revisions, and funder financial reports Ensure accurate forecasting across diverse funding streams Oversee invoicing, drawdowns, and reimbursement requests Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and manage the annual audit process Team Leadership \& Organizational Support Supervise, mentor, and support finance staff and/or contracted financial partners using a trauma-informed, respectful approach Strengthen financial systems, software, and reporting tools to improve efficiency and accuracy Provide training and guidance on financial policies, procedures, and best practices Collaborate across departments, honoring lived experience and peer-led services in financial planning Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and trust Mission \& Values Uphold and model Voices of Hope’s mission, values, and ethical standards Work closely with the Board Treasurer to strengthen understanding of the organization’s financial landscape Balance fiscal responsibility with compassion, equity, and service continuity What We’re Looking For Required Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field 7–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with strong nonprofit experience Demonstrated success managing complex budgets, restricted funds, and multiple funding streams Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and compliance Experience overseeing grants and contracts across public and private funding sources Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear, accessible insights Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills High ethical standards and commitment to transparency and accountability Preferred Master’s degree and/or CPA Experience leading annual audits and overseeing IRS Form 990 preparation Proficiency with SAGE Intacct and nonprofit accounting/HR/payroll systems Experience supervising finance teams or managing external financial partners Lived experience in recovery or professional experience in recovery-oriented, peer-led, or human services organizations Please apply on Indeed and include your updated resume and cover letter.
