Job Description: Responsible for serving as a key financial business partner in assigned areas of responsibility. This role will provide support and advise in strategic and operational decision making through insights that drive better business performance. This position will support and reinforce key initiatives within the Finance department through education and communication with senior financial and operational leaders.Specific duties include: (1) support the business to raise standards in key decision areas, taking a forward-looking view supported by a rich consulting toolkit and high emotional intelligence to help articulate different options and influence decisions; (2) perform a broad range of financial analysis and business plan responsibilities for assigned areas; (3) conduct complex financial analysis on performance and potential new business activities; (4) coordinate and perform a variety of complex financial analysis; serves as support for activities relating to physician compensation and production analysis as assigned; (5) develop and maintain analytical methodologies, tools, and data to ensure data quality, security and accessibility; providing technical expertise to other staff involved in data analysis; (6) act as a liaison between finance and operational leaders to ensure they have relevant tools and data and understand how to use them; (7) guide the annual operating budget process to ensure timely and accurate fiscal planning; (8) review budget variances and works with leaders to ensure compliance; (9) support Vice Presidents and senior leadership across the organization; (10) serve the organization as technical and subject matter expert for areas in which they work; (11) provide input and guidance to other members of the Finance team; (12) lead projects, develop and implement new methodologies and make recommendations to improve both the business and processes within the Finance team; (13) implement analytical processes and tools (statistical software, data visualization tools, database systems); (14) lead and work on highly complex projects with large degrees of risk and scope; (15) provide day to day leadership and direction to assigned team members and participate in the annual performance review process; (16) provide accurate and timely feedback to team members on their work performance, accomplishments and opportunities. Education Qualifications: Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 4 years related experience. The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks an Operations Manager to lead project management and daily operations for the planning phase of a new Institute for Marine Science and Technology (IMaST). This position will be responsible for initiating and implementing strategic plans to support the planned IMaST mission, developing and implementing operational systems and workflows, overseeing fiscal and personnel operations, and providing project management expertise to support the creation of a new institute at the University of Minnesota. The Operations Manager will coordinate and engage with stakeholders at all levels including University leadership, faculty, and staff, federal, state, tribal, and industry collaborators, and regional and private-sector sponsors. The incumbent will align IMaST’s mission with the operational needs of all stakeholders to create and implement a robust project implementation plan. Working with minimal direction, this individual exercises independent judgment, professional discretion, and analytical insight in managing complex operational functions, leading cross-unit projects, and ensuring effective operations across IMaST’s research, education, and outreach programs. The incumbent will support the IMaST Task Force in conducting their meetings and assembling the final report.
