Summary The Executive Assistant to the CEO serves as a strategic extension of the executive—acting as a trusted partner, gatekeeper, problem solver, and operational force multiplier. This role goes far beyond calendar management and administrative support. The Executive Assistant is expected to anticipate needs, exercise sound judgment, protect executive time, and represent the CEO and the organization with professionalism, discretion, and confidence. This role requires a high level of tenacity and enablement. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments that require initiative, discretion, adaptability, and sound judgment. Responsibilities * Serve as the primary point of contact for the CEO’s office, including answering and managing calls, handling inbound communication with professionalism and efficiency. * Review and monitor the CEO’s email multiple times daily to create and maintain a running, prioritized action and to-do list. * Screen calls, emails, and requests, exercising discretion and judgment while ensuring stakeholders feel heard and supported. * Manage scheduling, meetings, and logistics, with the ability to fully own the CEO’s calendar once fully onboarded. * Attend internal meetings on behalf of the CEO when the CEO is traveling or unavailable, capturing key information and following up on action items. * Act as the “eyes and ears” of the organization—remaining attuned to employee sentiment, customer needs, and operational issues. * Be viewed by internal and external stakeholders as a link to the executive office, not a barrier, while safeguarding the CEO’s time and priorities. * Provide limited personal assistant support (e.g., dry cleaning coordination, gift purchases, small errands) to remove friction from the CEO’s day. * Support special projects, initiatives, and executive priorities as needed. * Create, improve, and manage processes that help allocate time, resources, and information more effectively. * Maintain a strong understanding of the company’s vision, mission, and business direction and operate in alignment with them. * Work with little to no supervision, while remaining closely aligned with the CEO * Manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously * Perform other related duties as assigned in support of executive and organizational objectives. Required Experience and Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience * Minimum of 3 years of experience providing administrative, operational, or executive-level support to senior leaders * Prior experience supporting senior leadership or executive teams * Experience managing projects, events, meetings, and complex schedules * Understanding of basic business models and organizational operations * Strong process-building and optimization skills * Experience in small to midsize organizations preferred, where versatility and adaptability were required Core Competencies * A high degree of initiative, capable of taking independent action while always exercising sound judgment * Flexibility and comfort reprioritizing frequently in a fast-moving environment * Absolute trustworthiness, discretion, confidentiality, and integrity * Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective under pressure and time constraints * Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality * Strong leadership presence and understanding of team dynamics * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills (internal and external) * Confidence interacting with senior leaders and external stakeholders * Strong personality; not easily intimidated * Ability to screen and manage incoming executive office calls with professionalism and satisfaction * Commitment to staying current with technology and continuously improving systems and workflows * Positive, “can-do” attitude with a collaborative mindset * Ability to bring levity, perspective, and emotional intelligence to high-pressure days * Willingness to mentor, guide, and support others when appropriate Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a standard office setting. The role involves typical office conditions, including time-sensitive deadlines, interaction with internal and external stakeholders, and occasional exposure to challenging or high-priority situations. The position requires travel. Professional business attire is required while representing the organization. GARNEY CONSTRUCTION A Business Development Manager position is available in Decatur, GA and surrounding markets. The successful candidate will have water and wastewater experience and a deep understanding of the markets, having exposure both public and private, and industrial owners. They will understand the technology and engineering involved in water and wastewater and have a command of collaborative project delivery methodology. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Establishes and maintains relationships with regional public, private, and industrial clients, consultants, and other key regional stakeholders. In collaboration with the regional Operations teams, develops and leads business development strategy. Investigates and understands the internal business processes of clients, their needs and project drivers, and can discuss relevant business challenges for each. Leads the Go/No-Go decision-making process. Provides the critical information regional Operations teams need to determine the viability of a pursuit. Leads the proposal process for services in response to invitations to bid and provides leadership and direction to proposal team from inception (capture planning stage) to completion (proposal submission / interview stage). Demonstrate leadership in the water market industry, engaging in associations and conferences as an industry leader and frequent presenter. Leadership in development and execution of regional / industry-specific marketing and branding plans, in collaboration with corporate marketing staff, including plans for local/regional conferences, events, and industry networking. Develop a thorough understanding of regional trends and competition. Be aware of recent project awards in the region. Works closely with Garney Marketing, Estimating, and Operations teams to develop and execute strategies and new methods for introducing Garney to prospective clients. Actively documents all prospect activity in accordance with Garney’s processes and methodologies using the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, Cosential / Unanet. Efficiently manages time to focus on the highest priority activities that align with the strategy and business plan. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 4-year degree or equivalent preferred. In Engineering or Construction Management a plus. At least 5 years of diversified experience in water infrastructure specific programs/project management and strategic business development is preferred. Comprehensive understanding of CMAR, Design Build, P3 and other collaborative delivery methods is required. Prior business development or sales experience is a plus. Proposal development, creative writing skills are a plus. Strong work and personal ethics, self-motivated and results driven. Strong organizational and follow-up skills. A proven record of successfully creating interest and intrigue for a technical product or service. Consistently exceed expectations on meeting goals. Function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for delivering results is set high. Enjoy collaborating with clients while understanding their diverse personalities and their business needs. Willingness to travel occasionally with short notice. A flexible schedule is critical.
