About Us Carlson Testing is a leading engineering firm in Bend, Oregon specializing in geotechnical engineering and construction inspections and testing services. Over the past 40 years, Carlson Testing has built up a substantial client base and routinely contributes on the largest projects in Central and Eastern Oregon. Carlson Testing offers a full range of geotechnical engineering services, and runs a full-service construction materials testing (soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) laboratory at our Bend location. As the Central Oregon market continues to expand, we are seeking a qualified individual to join our experienced, growth-oriented team in our Bend office. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, has experience managing junior staff, and has aspirations to help take a small engineering firm to the next level. Job Description We are seeking candidates with 2+ years of related geotechnical engineering experience. The successful candidate will be working on wide variety of projects and clientele in central and eastern Oregon and beyond. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with preparation of proposals and geotechnical reports, development of appropriate foundation and site-related geotechnical recommendations, engineering calculations, project management, project billing management, reviewing the work of staff members, and interacting with the firm’s management team. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering and an Oregon PE registration. Masters in Geotechnical Engineering and an Oregon GE registration is preferred for candidates, but not required for the position. Job Duties · Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling, laboratory testing, and site characterization. · Perform geotechnical analyses and calculations, such as slope stability analysis, settlement analysis, and foundation design. · Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, including findings, recommendations, and design parameters. · Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineers to develop cost-effective and sustainable engineering solutions. · Review project plans, specifications, and construction documents to ensure compliance with geotechnical requirements. · Provide technical support and guidance during construction, including field inspections and construction materials testing. · Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures to minimize project risks. · Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to geotechnical engineering. · Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technicians on geotechnical projects. · Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to address project needs and requirements. Qualifications: · Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred. · Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Civil Engineering in the State of Oregon. · Minimum of 2 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in consulting or construction industry. · Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as GinT, drafting software, SlopeW, Liq. SVS (or similar program suites) · Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical design principles. · Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. · Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. · Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment. · Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines. · Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations. Job Description AECOM is looking to recruit an Engineer - Geotechnical Here is what you will do: • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope. • Assist with the monitoring of the geotechnical field activities to ensure that they are undertaken in accordance with the project requirements, apply geotechnical assessment and interpretation . • Liaise with the geotechnical contractors to ensure the project meets with client expectations and deadlines. • Have good technical awareness/experience of specifications and implementing in accordance with the contract and design requirements. • Ensure the correctness and completeness of all deliverables (reports, drawings, etc.) to ensure they meet specifications (quality) and are consistent with field conditions, etc. • Assist the geotechnical team in preparation of contractual correspondence, as required. • Be willing to travel as the nature of the geotechnical projects may require traveling to other countries to undertake and complete work. • Perform other responsibilities or duties associated with this geotechnical position, as may be appropriate. Here’s what we’re looking for: • Ability to collaborate closely with our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction. • Actively input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts. • Provide on the job mentoring of junior staff and support them towards achieving chartered status. • Proven leadership experience in similar roles, with an ability to inspire and lead teams. • Prepare, check and review a wide range of technical documents, including desk studies, interpretative reports, specifications, construction drawings and design reports. • Demonstrable understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical design, but also open to exploring new methods and innovations.
