Job Summary The part time clinical exercise physiologist will work in various groups and individual settings. The EP provides and delivers direct patient care through a team-based, collaborative approach in all phases of intensive cardiac rehabilitation and services provided by Progressive Health of Delaware Primary Care Practice and Fitness Center. Duties and Responsibilities * Assist in the supervision and monitoring of patients in intensive cardiac rehabilitation classes. Provides ongoing assessment of aerobic, strength and work capacity levels for all patients. Actively engages and participates in all classes at all times of services. * Will maintain a patient case load for the medical fitness program and properly assess, prescribe, and guide patients through their medical fitness programing to help the patient reach their goals. * Performs accurate and effective patient admission intakes utilizing motivational interviewing skills, as well as providing precise, individual exercise prescriptions in accordance with but not limited to, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab (AACVPR), and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). * Assist in ongoing research at the fitness center. * Executes proper symptom-limited sub-max graded exercise stress tests under AACVPR and ACSM guidelines. * Ensures patient safety at all times by continuously assessing patient appropriateness levels and health status throughout the program. * Evaluates patient needs for lifestyle management and delivers effective patient education on risk-factor modification and exercise compliance. * Maintains current and evidence-based science knowledge. Delivers sound practice that incorporates the science. Advocates the promotion of both the science and the practice of Lifestyle Medicine. * Communicates and properly refers patients to appropriate physicians if needed. * Maintains a clean and working environment for all staff personnel and individual patients. * Properly cleans all machines in accordance with departmental routines, policies, and procedures. * Promotes a collaborative, team-based approach of patient-centered care. * Ensures all patient information and documentation is kept organized and stored under HIPAA regulations. * Contributes to ensuring patient attendance is being met. Communicating with patients via phone calls, email, etc. * Confirms all patients are up-to-date with departmental schedule and special holidays Qualities * Must be comfortable working 1-on-1 with clinical populations of varying diseases * Must demonstrate a team collaborative approach * Must be able to display effective engagement with all patients * Must be able to work efficiently under stressful environments * Must be able to conduct and display professional behavior at all times * Must be able to interact with physicians * Must be highly motivated, dependable, and detail oriented * Must be able to maintain a focused mentality Skills The clinical EP must posses and/or be willing to learn the following skills: * Demonstrate complete and accurate clinical documentation * Accurately assess vital signs at rest and during exercise * Assess and measure individual blood sugar levels using a glucometer * Adjusting exercising workloads within acceptable parameters * Provide high quality care during patient untoward or clinical events Preferred Educational background and Qualifications * Master’s degree in exercise science or related field Certified through the American College of Sports Medicine with the following certification: Exercise Physiologist –or– Clinical Exercise Physiologist, -AND/OR- certified through American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation with active CCRP* certification. * A working history of 3-5 years in cardiac rehabilitation, medical fitness, and/or physical medicine * Background conducting/assisting clinical research in laboratory or clinical setting. The CEP evaluates pertinent medical records and thoroughly interviews patients to clarify medical history, needs, goals, and problems. The CEP creates and follows exercise prescription plans to achieve specific realistic outcomes and interacts in treatment according to patient needs. Applies principles and practices of cardiac rehabilitation for prevention and therapeutic purposes to restore and maintain optimal physiological, psychological, social, vocational and emotional status. Provides patient/family education and instruction to promote/maintain health and well-being. Performs EKG and Holter analysis + Performs 12-Lead Electrocardiograms (EKGs). + Edits EKGs based on provider interpretation and direction. + Educates patients regarding holter monitor process; administers connection between patient and equipment. + May perform holter analysis, reading and preparing the EKG information for the physician to interpret. + Completes charting and billing.
