Village Treasurer - Part Time
Position Summary The Village Treasurer of the Village of Brockport is the fiscal officer responsible for administration, oversight, and reporting of the Village’s financial operations. This position ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, compliance with all applicable statutes, regulations, and policies governing municipal finances and proper handling of public funds. The treasurer also provides accurate and timely financial reporting to the Mayor, Board of Trustees, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Essential Duties \& Responsibilities Maintain custody and accountability of all Village funds Deposit Village funds in officially designated depositories in compliance with statutory requirements Prepare and maintain accurate purchase orders, financial records, ledgers, and accounts using accepted governmental accounting principles Human resource manager and payroll processing Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for the Mayor and Board of Trustees Prepare and monitor the annual Village budget Reconcile bank statements, investments and monitor internal financial controls Coordinate and prepare documentation for annual audits and work with external auditors Ensure timely compliance with reporting requirements of the New York State Office of the State Comptroller, including annual financial reports Manage banking relationships, prepare bank reconciliations and oversee financial transactions Apply for and maintain grant-related financial records and reporting. Liaison and manage grants submitted by various departments and track grant writing opportunities with external grant writers Respond to financial inquiries from Village officials, staff, residents, and outside agencies Attend Board of Trustees meetings as required Perform related duties as assigned including administrative clerical and customer service duties as needed Track and reconcile fines between law enforcement/code department and courts. |Submit outstanding fines to collection agencies. Provide monthly reports to Board of Trustees on fine collection. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, public administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial controls Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Preferred Qualifications Experience in municipal finance or governmental accounting Familiarity with Village Law, General Municipal Law, Local Finance Law, and OSC reporting requirements Experience in preparing budgets and working with external auditors Knowledge, Skills \& Abilities Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and timely financial reports Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively with elected officials and staff Work Environment Office-based position Regular interaction with elected officials, staff, auditors, and the public Attendance at monthly Board of Trustees meetings is required Download employment application from www.brockportny.org.
